Thanks for posting the pics. Sure looks like quite the spot. The 911 you drove - was it a 991.2 ? Would love to hear more about your impressions of each of the cars.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Guess Jeff's having so much fun driving it, he's not had time to stop and take some photos.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Get the 18's - more sidewall to smooth out the ride offered by winter roads. And in winter, narrower is better (assuming you're driving in snow) I have 18" Porsche wheels on my 981, without any problems at all. I can't recall the tire size- it's whatever Porsche put on the wheels at the factory. My car came with grey 20" wheels which are gorgeous, but not enough sidewall for our bad local roads.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Quotejeff in VA my new 718 (there -- I revealed my purchase of one of the growly cars despite the likely scoffs from the audience ;-). Thanks. Congratulations, Jeff ! No scoffs here - the 718 is one heck of a fine car. We'll be interested in hearing about your Boxster adventures. BUT, the rule here is until pics are posted, the car doesn't exist. So, you know what you have to do,by Roger987 - Main Forum
I like mine, too. A very pleasant car to drive, and own. And Guenter, too, liked his plenty, until shifting for yourself was no longer available. No mistake, if Porsche offered me a Macan S on an even trade for my Audi, I'd likely take it (if the Macan the right suspension set-up for me). But last time I checked, the Macan, suitably optioned, was about 60% more expensive than my Allroad.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Before we attribute the relatively poor Boxster sales to the less fulfilling 718 (a reasonable inference nonetheless), I think we'd have to know what the trend has been for sports cars in the same price (and performance?) range. Maybe sales of ALL $80k sports cars are down. Maybe $35k Miata's are flying out of the showroom. Back to Gman's point about the importance of a sports car being excitinby Roger987 - Main Forum
My 981S Boxster has duo visors but, as with many convertibles, they don't rotate to the side. I realize your inquiry is about the 981 Cayman, which might be different. I just wanted to have a little fun with the 'duo' bit.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Mike, that begs the question - why didn't Porsche do it?by Roger987 - Main Forum
And while the sound is a big part of the disappointment, it's not the only thing. Yes, the 718 is quicker, but many feel there's more to the sports car experience than simply numbers. by Roger987 - Main Forum
I know a number of us having been awaiting Chris' review. I think he pretty much nailed it. Funny/interesting story - I was talking recently with a married couple who had just bumped into a friend of theirs who was driving her DB9. In the course of describing the car to me, each half of the couple mentioned, at least 3 times, the wonderful sound the DB9 makes. But what's funny is on a number oby Roger987 - Main Forum
Quotedb997S already? That would be a quick admission of failure. Smaller displacement 6 with turbos would be inline with the sports car lineup for Porsche. There may be two challenges: 1. Once a turbo and its hardware are added, Porsche's current sixes are physically too large to fit in the Boxster's engine space. Maybe they could design a physically smaller 6? But would that make sense? ; 2by Roger987 - Main Forum
I've heard that one of the options Porsche may be considering is the removal of the turbos from the 718 engines, and modifying the software and hardware (pistons, cylinder head, cams and valve timing) to extract whatever additional power they can from the NA fours. Another option apparently being considered is a return to the 6 cylinder engine, but considerably less displacement.by Roger987 - Main Forum
My bike wasn't even close to being in the same league as yours. But there were some runs sufficiently 'spirited' that, when I look back on them now, I shake my head and think "what was I thinking"? Who knows, but my mortality wasn't on of the list. After riding for 10 years without incident, I figured, like you, that I'd be wise to quit while ahead. Your expression is much more poetic. That R90S was a helluva bike, and represented the start of a major shift in the industry. Used ones in good condition command a price in excess of their factory sticker. (Not unlike certain Porsches)by Roger987 - Main Forum
And I agree with Mike, too - being 'moved' by your sports car involves a whole lot more than simply being transported from point A to point B.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Plácido Domingo, José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti. From that youtube clip, the S actually sounds worse. (Which is not to say the 718 non-S sounds 'good' - just not as bad)by Roger987 - Main Forum
The early reviews/comments are positive. I recall fondly New England road trips in the original 124. I much prefer the new 124's styling to that of the new Miata. Compared to the Boxster, it's down on power and space. (Nonetheless, it could be a fun car, though not as capable a long-distance runner). The performance, amenities, interior appointments and price of the 981/718 have moved it intoby Roger987 - Main Forum
Your 981 will serve you as well as your 986 did, but with a bit more gusto.by Roger987 - Main Forum
QuoteRoger987 I have a 2014 (B8) Allroad, loaded. Excellent car. The new B9 Allroad (will arrive in NA this fall) will be an even better car, leaving aside any first-year issues. BMW and Merc offer wagons (though I think the C-class wagon will come only to Canada, and not the US). The Bimmer offers a sportier drive than the Audi. They are both very good cars. A couple test drives should helpby Roger987 - Main Forum

QuoteBoxsterra Many sports car owners appreciate the sound their car makes. It's not a matter of volume; it's a matter of aural pleasure. That's why even the WSJ reviewer, who has to explain what a turbocharger is to its viewers, addresses the issue of sound. Exactly.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Given you own a 981S, and drove the 718S and 718 back-to-back, your impressions of the 718 carry a lot of weight, in my books. Based on the 'numbers' alone, for torque and h.p., I wouldn't have guessed that the 718 would be as uninspiring as it is. I can appreciate how the 718S impresses with tons of torque, beginning at low rpm's, and very little turbo lag. I will be surprised if Porsche is abby Roger987 - Main Forum
You checked all the right boxes, including the ideal suspension (in my opinion). That car will be stunning, and a pleasure to drive everywhere - near and far. Congratulations !by Roger987 - Main Forum
