I've had the pleasure of driving the Panamera, and it really does feel like a Porsche sports car with a (usable) back seat. Though it's big on the outside, it shrinks around the driver when driven. Those who found the original to be awkwardly styled may find the new one more to their liking.by Roger987 - Main Forum
After all, it sounds almost as good as Porsche's NA 6by Roger987 - Main Forum
The review appeared to be quite balanced - they identified what they liked (there was lots they liked), and what they didn't like (mostly the sound). In the end, they felt the 718 was 'deeply impressive', just not as much as the 981. That 'sounds' about right.by Roger987 - Main Forum

It's perhaps a bit surprising Porsche has moved away somewhat from the console which is currently in most of its models. Maybe it's an evolution?by Roger987 - Main Forum

The 987 came from the factory with clear protective film ahead of the back wheels. Interesting that the newer models don't have it.by Roger987 - Main Forum

QuotePedro (Weston, FL) But what's really disappointing is the Subaru impression the car makes when the engine is running. Oh, well, I'm sure it'll make up for it with the turbo. Happy Boxstering, Pedro This should fix it.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Stefan, that is one of the best written and illustrated step-by-step repair guides I've ever read. Well done!by Roger987 - Main Forum
You have the best of two worlds (two continent's, at least). I hope you'll post some more pics - interior, too.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Quoteboxsterd I always found it funny people complaining about the latest model's looks when 99% of the exterior is the same as the previous models. You don't like the sound? Get an aftermarket muffler. Having been a 986 owner and PPBB/PedrosBoard member for almost 15 years, what I've noticed is that generally speaking, the closer your model is to the new model, the more jealous and critical yoby Roger987 - Main Forum
It's no small achievement that car paint is now much less environmentally nasty. I don't doubt that the reformulations have altered the ability to duplicate retro colours. Since it was PTS, I guess that, unless the dealer has some photos, or is willing/able to get some from the car owner, we'll not see the colour. Any chance you'll encounter it again?by Roger987 - Main Forum
But the first 9/10 is worth watching a second time.by Roger987 - Main Forum

Those are both reasonable possibilities (though in the youtube video above, Ferrari is reported to have said it's not out of concern for the transmission. But, Ferrari may be reluctant to suggest their drivetrain isn't up to the task.). I hadn't realized that bike manufacturers do this, too. It makes some sense, though, in terms of possible law suits, and trying to lower the risk to drivers andby Roger987 - Main Forum
Did you see this part? (I'm sure you did): Engines with turbos big enough to provide boost throughout their operating range produce peak torque at low revs and then gradually run out of steam, like turbodiesels do. To combat that, gas-powertrain engineers artificially create broad torque plateaus by limiting boost at lower engine speeds. That electronic trickery helps the engine more closely emuby Roger987 - Main Forum
Porsche has repeatedly said that its move to turbo engines was a result of increasingly demanding fuel consumption limits. I guess Porsche really needed to generate 'better' EU mpg numbers in the laboratory setting. I've wondered whether Porsche also felt that, in the ongoing industry-wide battle of ever-stronger power and 0-60 numbers, it had to move to a turbo (as, for instance, BMW, Audi andby Roger987 - Main Forum
The 911S is just as quick and has more luggage space. As for their timeless curves, all three are breathtaking.by Roger987 - Main Forum
QuoteEd fromTampa ( formerly Long Island) that in order to survive Porsche had to expand its market outside of the true sports car niche. It's well known that the company's profits are coming from the other lines of business. I guess we can all look forward to Porsche returning to making tractors to boost its bottom line FWIW, I'd suggest Porsche brand the new offering as a "saloon car" vs a Sby Roger987 - Main Forum
You're absolutely correct - had Porsche not be able to adapt and innovate, the company would be gone, and with it, the sports cars we love. While I've lamented the sound made by the flat-4, I realize Porsche had little choice but to move in that direction. I feel fortunate to be driving any Porsche, and even more lucky to be driving a Boxster with a NA flat 6. But I have no doubt I'd be happy toby Roger987 - Main Forum
and bemoaned their passing in North America. For example: And now (notwithstanding the piece in the Car Guru) they are beside themselves with excitement about the new Porsche wagon: So, to answer Ed's question - the world may be coming to a better place.by Roger987 - Main Forum
I've driven the current Panamera, and it's superb. It truly does 'shrink' around you, and performs like a four door sports car. Cargo/luggage space is compromised, though, by its sloping rear (which, incidentally, some find unattractive). This new design is, in my view, the cat's meow, is far better looking than a SUV, will carry more stuff than a Macan, and probably offer more practical cargo aby Roger987 - Main Forum
Shame about the sound the engine makes. Reminds me a bit of the good old days of Porsche - when the engine's howl wasn't muffled by a turbocharger, or limited by small displacement/too few pistons.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Grant, from my experience, the most important thing is the skill, knowledge, and conscientiousness of the installer. I've had them mess up stuff like my navigation antenna, my rain sensor windshield wiper system, and they even managed to trigger an SRS light. Eventually, I got it straightened out, but what a hassle. If you have ANY electronics hooked up to, or near, your windshield, make sure thby Roger987 - Main Forum

There are a lot of splines - very thin, and spaced closely together (on the 987). I've been able to centre the s. wheel in that manner. Disconnect the battery, wait a while, remove the airbag, then the bolt holding the steering wheel, and Bob's your uncle. A caveat - airbags are explosive.by Roger987 - Main Forum
