40 minutes with a Dremel (equipped with a cut-off disk) and a can of spray paint, should fix that right up.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Clearly I'm not keeping abreast of current expressions. In Bill's case, I gather it was 'to make one's presence known'. Thanks...or..." A big shoutout to you, John B."by Roger987 - Main Forum
Wasn't offended at all. Rather, I'm genuinely curious as to what the expression means. I attended a wedding reception recently, and the groom said, in the course of his speech, "a big shoutout to my new in-laws". I really had no idea what he meant, and guessed (and I'm still only guessing) that he was attempting either to extend a greeting to his mother and father-in-law (who were in the audiencby Roger987 - Main Forum
"Shoutout" appears to be becoming as ubiquitous as "like", as in " I'm going to the like store to pick up some like parts for my like bitchin' Chevy Cobalt, like. " I'm curious; what is 'shoutout' intended to convey in the original post? Back in the day when 'like' wasn't used as banal filler, was there a word or expression that conveyed the same meaning as 'shoutout' ?by Roger987 - Main Forum
I'm guessing the departure of the clamshell reduces weight and complexity - one less thing to break. The interior dash vents are hideous. I'm hoping they don't make it to final production. Not a big fan of the side air intakes. They look like a committee-driven compromise between the tall 987 intakes and the shorter 911 intakes. I like pretty much everything about the new 911 (not wild about tby Roger987 - Main Forum
You're right - if the starter motor is engaging, then the micro-switch isn't the problem. Wasn't sure what you meant by 'turning over'.by Roger987 - Main Forum
It's likely the clutch pedal micro-switch. I replaced mine a week ago and posted here about it at the time. HTHby Roger987 - Main Forum
Lately, turning the ignition key has produced the electronic dip-stick image but the starter would engage only after depressing the clutch pedal several times (and getting a 'depress clutch pedal' alert). A quick google search produced this article from Pelican Parts. I bought and installed the grey clutch micro-switch - 99761310902 - and all is as it should be. The Boxster is a superb long hauler. Your Califronia trip was a strong testament to that (not to mention your 800-mile-in-one-day trip home from BRBS). Superb seats, great ergonomics, compliant suspension, very little wind or road noise. The two trunks are excellent and never seem to run out of space. And there's bonus room around the battery etc, under all the plastic covers to the just behindby Roger987 - Main Forum
Sounds like a perfect day. You're doing a great job of getting out and enjoying what has, so far, been a short summer. The Healeys are gorgeous - I doubt the new Lotus styling will stand the test of time to the same extent. On the other hand, they are a MUCH different car.by Roger987 - Main Forum
It's not just the mountains that should look familiar to you Guenter - the first silver Boxster is CURVN8R, and the third is Mike's (LawDevil's) newly christened CRVN8R (not sure of the spelling). Snuggled in between is the GT Silver Boxster that travelled over 1500 miles to BRBS. It needs a fancy name, too.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Looks as though it makes sense. A lot of rowing, but then again, the ratios would be reasonably close, and the 'just right' gear should always be at hand. Sometimes when overtaking another car at around 60 mph, I wish I had a gear in between 2nd and 3rd. Managed to bump the rev limiter the other day, which tends to slow down acceleration a bit...by Roger987 - Main Forum
to help a turtle who was in the middle of the road. The first time, other motorists stopped when they saw me. One one knew how to move a snapping turtle. (those guys can move their heads and jaws VERY fast) The second time, I moved it using the technique I learned on the first occasion. How? Pick them up (quickly) by the tail. There's something about turtles in particular (I'm not quite sure wby Roger987 - Main Forum
Stopped in to visit an old "Cop" friend. Then on to Mapleque Bay for some oysters. Followed by an afternoon at the beach. And then headed home, with another stop at Malpeque Bay All in all, an excellent Boxster day.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Guenter, again I'm going to follow your lead. It's supposed to be sunny and warm tomorrow - Julie and I are going to head to the beach, and as it happens, one of our favourites is about an hour from home, at the end of a twisty road along the ocean. This 'road' had a few turns, but they were all to the left.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Thanks for the tips, guys. Once I have the kit in hand, there's a good chance I'll send you a PM or two while I mentally do a dry-run of the install. Of course, if I were smart, I'd not install it until AFTER next year's BRBS, as I'd then have an excuse if I can't keep up with the CURVEN8R.by Roger987 - Main Forum
After reading Guenter's glowing review of his new shifter (and knowing Guenter doesn't upgrade lightly), I've ordered the kit from Eric (BumperPlugs) online and received the $25 BRBS discount right away. As I don't have access to an independent tech, I'll have a go at installing the kit myself. I note that the B&M installation instructions (googled them) call for the destruction of a coupleby Roger987 - Main Forum
And his rationale for not providing any warranty of the part he's supplying and installing completely eludes me. I would have thought that given he asserts his bearing assembly is far superior to the factory part, he'd warranty his component, at the very least. I'm not saying his component isn't any good, or that it isn't wise to install it in our engines. I'm just very suprised he doesn't appeby Roger987 - Main Forum
From his website: "I warranty the things that I assemble 100% start to finish with my own hands, from scratch, but not otherwise. We hate to be so direct with these statements, but we are realists and this is simply reality. The IMS Retrofit procedure is considered "Experimental", it always has been and always will be, because it is not recognized by Porsche at all. Upon completion of your vehby Roger987 - Main Forum
If so, did the kit include detailed instructions? Any challenges along the way?by Roger987 - Main Forum
although, judging from Guenter's report, I'd have to say a short shifter is currently a 'missed' blessing for me...by Roger987 - Main Forum
Thanks for the report Guenter. Pleased to hear you're delighted with the kit. I've always wondered if a short shift kit installed on a 987 might be a missed blessing - shorter shifts, but more effort. Apparently there's no downside.by Roger987 - Main Forum
Excellent. Well done, Karl.by Roger987 - Blue Ridge Boxster Summit (BRBS)
I'm still on my way home from BRBS (1543 miles - worth a cool Porsche ball cap, thank you, Karl), and on the way, I've opened and closed the roof at least 30 times, without a hitch. Thanks for working your magic - I'm one of many beneficiaries of your 'magnificent obsession'.by Roger987 - Main Forum
I second that, Guenter. It was my first BRBS and it was fantastic, for all the reasons you mentioned. I'd like to add a great big thank you to Guenter and Michele for doing an outstanding job of organizing the Biltmore trip. From the goodie bags to the detailed instructions, it was a top-notch outing, from start to finish. And, for those who haven't driven with Guenter, let me tell you, he is Sby Roger987 - Main Forum
