Fantastic car and color! Looks like one of those $250,000 sports cars. A few years ago, the wife and I did Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. We rented a Mustang Convertible. Great choice, even when in Yellowstone the road got clogged with a huge heard of buffalo (they call it a buffalo jam there instead of a traffic jam). They kept coming out of the woods and walking on the road. The top was doby db997S - Main Forum
PCNA says that if you don't trade for another Porsche product, the next option tends to be to buy a Jeep Wrangler. I can see that if I retire to the islands, mon. Boxster/Cayman for a Jeep?by db997S - Main Forum

Yup, when I buy my retirement place, if I can add a charging system to the garage, a Taycan will be attached to the other end. of the plug. Hopefully, the current gasser will still be going strong and sitting in the stall next to it for those top-down days and/or longer road trips.by db997S - Main Forum
Lots of tire squeals some whirling sounds and a lots of squeaks (pre-production vehicle). One section it hit 250/KPH. Video: Taycan aournd The Ringby db997S - Main Forum
It is amazing that they drive these "museum" pieces that are worth millions. Jerry Seinfeld in two episodes of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee has driven the last 356 ever to be produced. This is out in the "wild" of urban traffic out in the LA area. It was a Swedish or Norwegian police car.by db997S - Main Forum

I almost brought a Miata but then Porsche announced the production of the Boxster. Without the success of the Miata, cars like the Boxster and other two-seaters would not have been produced. Fun cars. Enjoy.by db997S - Main Forum
Was the fix that since the Parade is in Boca--the retirement Capitol of the US--that driving activities must entail cars to have one blinker flashing at all times?by db997S - Main Forum
I remember when I hit break-in mileage in my Boxster and wound out the engine past 4,000 RPMs. That howl was amazing. Loved to do it to unsuspecting passengers. Something about working those gears in "underpowered" cars at times is more joy than more powerful cars where you can be lazy and use mainly the right peddle. That being said, was in heavy stop-and-go traffic for a good three hours inby db997S - Main Forum
Always good to see them still going strong after 20 years. I've often wondered what happened to my first Porsche ('99 Arena Red purchased new in Oct. '98). Still get nostalgic about it. Traded it in for an S in 2002. Times I wished it was still in my garage. Enjoy your under-powered, chick car. Wonder if it still has that stigma?by db997S - Main Forum
That's one Fugly car. Guess that's why the French aren't know for the car making abilities. They should stick with clothing and accessories for said clothing. Bugatti is/was an anomaly.by db997S - Main Forum
stop sitting on the fence and just drive it. Like the dealership pix.by db997S - Main Forum
Always has looked like a much more expensive car. Remember when they first come out, people would come up and talk about the car and ask the cost. They were always amazed that it wasn't north of $100K. Not sure if it's that mid-engine design, but they even look fast when sitting still.by db997S - Main Forum
If you can stretch to a 2010, Porsche added DFI to the Boxster engines that model year. Just a little something extra on top of no IMS in 2009.by db997S - Main Forum
I don't keep it in the car but use it prior to driving. If I'm on a road trip, I just take it with me, but don't leave it in the car. Cars can get hot enough to warp plastic/cds. Sure it would "melt" sunscreen and then cause chemicals to separate as it turns from semi-liquid to liquid state. Since the 986 was the first model year "97), there were some growing pains, like porous engine blocks, which was addressed by model year '98. Rear Main Seal (RMS) some were bad material, others were ill-fitting parts that no seal can fix or stop from leaking. Think their CV boots tended to tear a bit more than other models (could be just heard about them more on this site, but I did have to repby db997S - Main Forum
I had an 02 S that the IMS took out the engine. Lucky under warranty, but I brought an '09 simply for the fact that the IMS was designed out of the engine. It was always in the back of my mind whenever I drove the car. My engine went while on a road trip. Luckily, it waited until I pulled into the hotel at 1:00 a.m., in Cleveland. If it went an hour earlier, I would have been in rural OH inby db997S - Main Forum

Just a follow up to my comment above. With brakes, I always think back to my first Nascar night race at Richmond, a fast, 3/4 mile oval. You sit in Turns 1 or 3 when it gets dark, and you wouldn't believe how bright orange the rotors get from the heat due to braking after the straights. Richmond doesn't have long straights, either, but at 800 horses, those boys do carry some speed going into tby db997S - Main Forum
Don't forget, they sell a lot of handbags, sun glasses, movie DVDs, etc. on the street just like OEM at considerably less money, too, but it is not OEM at all. To me, brakes are such a important safety feature, not sure i'd risk it. But, that's me. Now, maybe some bling items would be worth it, but for safety and reliable needs, not so much. Are you talking rotors that are manufactured by a rby db997S - Main Forum
At the end of an article in the March Panorama on the 914, there was a full-page picture of a bunch of old Porsches and the title read "Classic Porsches" and one of the cars was an orange 986. You know you are old when your first ever Porsche that you purchased new is now possibly considered in the Classic category: '98 Arena Red/Savannah Beige with two hacks (wood shifter and painted center coby db997S - Main Forum
The speedster, whether a 911 or Boxster, has never been my thing. One of the only Porsche sports cars I wouldn't buy, even if I won the Power Ball.by db997S - Main Forum
Try to find one that has had the IMS issue addressed/fixed. Maybe not just replaced, but fixed. The 01/02 years are right in the heart of IMS issues. Do research on the IMS issue on Boxsters.by db997S - Main Forum
Good move. Just enjoyed a top down drive into work this morning. Sunny day, about 48 degrees, tunes playing, but even in stop-and-go rush hour traffic, nice way to start the day. Don't tell anyone, but had a hot green tea in the cup holder, too. Life is good with no roof (on a car, that is). You know that is so even when traffic can't bring you down.
