I did some surfing and saw a lot of discussions, a couple having posts that seemed credible, wherein the writer claimed to be quoting a representative from Pirelli or Dunlop. It's possible that nowadays Teflon or similar coatings are on the molds themselves, and don't transfer to the tires. Also, it's possible that a new tire requires a few heat cycles to finish curing.
