Maybe the impression has to do with gearing (+tire diameter.)
Ratios in and of themselves; relative tightness between. There've been observations concerning the early Boxster/Boxster S 5 speed vs. 6 and which gear one had to be in for certain corners; in and out.how it would affect exit speed.
