I agree with your assessments and adda a few more....
Wheel well arches (finishing off of the edges): 986. Width on 986 is ~1/2". Later generations much larger. Double?
Side mirrors: 986. Less busy design.
Front grilles: 986. Just the right size. Later generations are humongous.
Horsepower: Later generations. :)
Rear window: Later generations, hands down.
