Oh, the physical job is not tough at all, aside form the fact that the filter is waaaaay up there. Much like M96 / 986 oil change.

But .........

The lack of a dipstick is a serious issue IMO.

Hey Grant!

Sorry, a bit late to the party but...

My 2009 C2S 9A1 DFI engine is the same way .... no dipstick... although the filter is on the top of the engine (nice!). No dipstick and must be warm to get a measurement... actually oil has to be hot.

So.... what I do is measure what comes out, and put the same in. I check the level first, and if I am on low, I add what came out plus 1/2 quart. Then drive and re-measure. Actually, if I then need some, I don't add but drive for another day or so before adding. My measurement system can be wonky for some reason so I want to be sure.

Also, I discovered that canting the car side to side can get alot more oil out... like a quart more. So I jack the side of the car up, slip in the pan and remove the plug, then set the car back down. When it starts to drip... I don't let it drain long at all, I re-jack the car up high... boy does the oil start to pour out. Then when I get the drip, I drop the car and jack the other side... then more oil starts to pour out. When I set the car back to flat, the oil stops. So when I jack the car up from the side, the car is not only canted to the side, but canted forward too.

I've been doing it this way for about 150K miles or so and it works really well. The DFI engines don't have scavenge pumps in the heads like previous engines, but a single multi-purpose pump in the engine. In addition to supplying oil pressure to the block, heads and such, it sucks oil from the heads. Honestly, I don't know where the extra oil is coming from or its path, but canting the car from side to side sure gets out more oil. I hope this helps.

Peace
