Dash speaker replacement in 2000 w/Sports Package

I'm in the midst of replacing the head unit with a BOSS BE7ACP.WCX; I'm thinking of replacing the 25 year old front speakers as well. I really don't want to rewire anything, so I'm leaving the amp in the frunk alone.
A - will I get better sound?
B - anyone have a specific pair of speakers they'd suggest?
I know I'll need to buy an 'adapter kit' since I don't want to attack the original speaker with a dremel tool.

The OEM speaker cone and surround material were far inferior to modern auto speakers. I made no other changes and kept the old head unit (which isn't great either) and was very pleased with the improved sound. The bascket modification wasn;t too bad. I have pics if you are interested.

Speakers

Neither then door speakers nor the dash speakers are full range. The dash speakers have two cones (~4" and ~1" tweeters) and the door speakers are ~5.25" but can be upgraded to a larger size.

Your head unit has a 4 channel 85 W per channel amp that you could use to drive the speakers. And IMO it would sound a lot better than the stock amplifier.

The head unit is a BOSS BE7ACP which doesn't replace the front trunk amp.

The dash speakers are the only full range speakers in the car.

Andrew

Do you have door speakers?

Changing those would be a good improvement. But you'd have to either source or build an adapter since there's no easy way to "just" mount the speakers since the originals are in a custom enclosure.

The actual dash speakers are small and will make some difference but not a lot. It is totally possible to make a bracket to fit any similarly sized speakers up there.

It's entirely likely that your new head unit has a better amplifier than the stock Porsche one, which is IMO poor. You would have to wire the speakers though.

I'm just curious if the front speakers alone will be an large enough net plus to warrant doing. the originals still work, but they are 25 years old.

Andrew

They sound very good, with an upgraded amp & equalizer. The only modification on the dash speakers was to the grille. I believe that he cut some of the mounting tabs and used hot glue to attach the speakers to the stock grille.
