airbag light on after battery replacement
Steve (Morro Bay) - Thursday, 20 December, 2012, at 10:22:23 am
After recently replacing the battery in my 2007 cayman, the airbag warning light has stayed on. I thought it might go off after I drove some miles, but I've gone tens of miles now and it is still on. Anyone know what this means, and how to fix it?
It most likely happened because ...

... the key was in the ignition when the batty was replaced.
The Airbag Warning Light will not go out by itself even if the original problem that caused it has been corrected.
You will need to hook up a PIWIS or Durametric unit to turn off the light.

Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar

"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting" ... Steve McQueen as Michael Delaney in "LeMans"

"If you wait, all that happens is that you get older"... Mario Andretti

"Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose" ... Ayrton Senna
That's possible. I don't remember actually.

What a strange way to cause the light to go on. I wonder what the reason is. Do you happen to know if the airbag systems could still be functioning normally even with the light on? The nearest porsche dealer is hours from me.

I made that mistake this summer.

My Durametric unit turned the light off. Well worth the price of admission.

Somehow I got the impression that it only worked with windows. I haven't had access to a windows computer in about 10 years, so I'm kinda out of luck with that. I've thought of getting a cheap windows laptop just for this actually...

The airbag system still works, even though the warning light is on.
If you have a newer Mac you can have it run windows and thus the Durametric software.

I'd completely forgotten about being able to put windows on my mac. Also, good to know that the airbags are actually functional. Thanks!
