Wiki shows a couple "production" cars ahead of the 918:

Hard to believe a Radical SR8 is street legal.

good point, Laz. the radical is production and street legal so it seems to qualify. I wonder what technicality Porsche uses to support its claim.
fastest lap by a car from a big company with lots of models?
fastest lap by a car that costs nearly a million bucks?
i'm going to have to find this out.

just read that the radical used non-street legal tires in its runs

so i guess that's what makes the 918 run the fastest in a street legal, production car, using street legal tires.

Probably couldn't have done it with a manual

It seemed to be a pretty big advantage to be able to hold the steering wheel with both hands at all times.

Towards the end on the straightaway he was just holding it at 280 kph, which is clearly a speed limit since he could have gone much faster. I wouldn't think they would have the speed limits in effect when you're renting the whole track for a speed run.

Also, does anyone know what he was adjusting on the steering wheel at 7:21 and 7:26?
sure is a lot of hardware in the front seat

Looks like he's on a delivery run from office max.
Sticking out from the center of his steering wheel at about 4:00..... doesn't look like a production thing.... he tweaks it near the end. Hmmm..... brake bias?

That's what I was asking

It might be radio volume. He doesn't adjust it until he's on the straight.

It's the 'waste-gate' release lever (for the panel beneath his seat). If I'd been in the passenger seat, it would have been open the entire time.eye popping smiley
It's all over this new promotional video [www.youtube.com]. Seems to control the driving mode (electric, hybrid, race, etc).
