1/2" Socket for wheel hub nut
marty - Tuesday, 8 October, 2013, at 9:33:20 am
I'm about to purchase a 32mm, long type socket to use in replacing my front wheel bearings.

I've been offered one which is meant for an air gun. It has 6 rounded flats which grip on the sides of the nut rather than the corners.

Is this type better than a flat sided 6 or 12 point type? I'll be using it with a long breaker bar, not an air gun.

1. It wont round the corners of the nut
2. if its an impacty socket, its particularly durable

I just use a 1/2" breaker bar with a pipe on it. No big deal.

Now, FRONT wheel bearings require this? Boxster 4? What's it holding in place? Typically that nut is the driveshaft nut, and only exists on the rear (driven) wheels....

Or is it onthe front too for some reason?
