I ask this on behalf of my friend who bought my first Boxster:
His ashtray opening/closure had become dodgy, and in an attempt to fix the mechanism, he saw this bit wasn't engaging properly, it was held in place by a through-pin of sorts, but in trying to remove this piece he broke off one of the two "arms." One can see the remaining arm pointing left. He's quite handy and meticulous, (a historical building restorer, and currently restoring his '58 XK150,) so this mishap was a rarity.
To the questions:
Can anyone give pointers on fixing the ashtray?
Are individual parts available?
I suggested he look on eBay, and/or salvagers for the whole unit, but anyone know of a specialized source?
Here's the picture he sent me.
does he need an ashtray? i replaced my ashtray way back in the day with the open box, cubby hole piece that fits there instead of the ashtray. ok, that would still require purchasing the piece but it's simple and just pops in and is held down with a screw under the rubber mat IIRC.

To be clear, do you have the ashtray, and are up for selling it?
