No one was hurt. Cars can be repaired or replaced.
Hopefully the ship itself remains seaworthy after the fires are put out.

Lost time is not the same as the loss of life or even the loss of money.

But I take your point. There are a lot of dreams on that boat too. Hopefully, many of the cars will be unharmed or easily salvageable.
It appears that the hybrids and EVs on board the ship are keeping the blaze going as the batteries overheat and burst into flames. Could be urban ledgend, but saw something online, so it must be true, right?!
Sooner or later many of us us will be impacted.

Some insurance company(ies) is/are crying deeply--$500 million in cars and $25 million in boat. With that kind of cash at risk, this thing will be in litigation for years. Ship's and VW's insurers won't want to pay while VW and ship company will want to get paid. VW will get sued blaming batteries cause it and made it worse, VW will sue its insureance for payment and the battery maker's insurance for faulty batteries, the real reason for the fire won't be known, more than likely.
Not a total loss

Cargo ship fires are somewhat common. It's unlikely the fire started from an EV car battery. When they're not charging or discharging they only very rarely cause fires.
