Generally whines come from gears, so think transmission/transfer case.
But since you hear the whine at idle, without moving, I would discard the transfer case and look into the PDK and its dual clutches.
When I was actively wrenching I had a set of microphones that I could strategically place in suspected places to try to record some difficult sounds and be able to diagnose the problem.
As your dealer if they have such diagnostic devices, if not maybe it's time to look for a quality independent shop.
