happy 28th birthday to SMILIN. fun looking at this picture, as i still have some of the junk seen in the picture, and the car is still looking great and sitting in the same garage. and most important, especially happy that i still have my dad!

cheers to you all for adding to the enjoyment with this car.

Mine also turned 28 in December!
I don't have the same garage though, I've moved twice since then.
I don't have my Dad either, but he did get to drive it after one of my moves.
He was also a car guy. Miss him dearly even after 23 years.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar

"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting" ... Steve McQueen as Michael Delaney in "LeMans"

"If you wait, all that happens is that you get older"... Mario Andretti

"Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose" ... Ayrton Senna
That photo is kind of special in several ways.
I got to "park" next to my Dad at Sebring. He with his 1955 MB SL300 and me with my 1998 Boxster.
After I took it and desaturated my side to match his B&W I realized that everything was reversed:
• Dad's shirt is white, mine black
• Dad's pants are black, mine are off white
• Dad's shoes are white, mine are black
• Dad's car is black, mine is white
• Dad's facial hair is black, mine is white
• At the time each photo was taken, I could have been the Dad and he the son, since he as 33 and I was 59
• That's another MB 300SL being worked on behind my Dad's.
Dad's is a convertible with the aluminum hard top, the one behind is a '54 Gullwing which my Dad traded in because the Gullwing was 190 lbs heavier.

Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Such a great story Pedro. I noticed the 300SLs - looks like a track event. Any info on the event?
That was a private track day at Sebring in 1959 (September?).
They were getting laps in hoping to compete in the 1960 12 Hours.

Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

So cool. Thanks Pedro.
... I'm in both pictures as well.
If you look to my Dad's right, behind the black 300, that's me at 7 years old.
I'm looking at the Gullwing!

Happy Porsche'ing,
Pedro
