Hi All.
I have a 2011 Boxster and am afraid of the dreaded HVAC issue where foam sealant material breaks off inside the system and starts blowing out of the vents. I live in the Pacific Northwest, where it can be humid. I was told that this wet air could accelerate the deterioration of the sealing foam and make the problem worse. So I bought a dehumidifier for my garage and kept the air below 35% humidity. Now I'm hearing that humid air is a good thing and can prevent the deterioration. It's dry air and hot tempratures in states like Arizona and Nevada that cause the foam bits to break down. Which is true? Do I focus on keeping my garage dehumidified and dry or let it get humid?

You can't believe everything you read on the internet..... including this response!
It will happen to ever 986/987 and 996/997.
The triggers can be time/temperature/ozone/other contaminants, etc.
The foam that was used (because of environmental regulations) will not last forever and will deteriorate.
I've seen that most FL cars (986/996) have already lost all of the foam, as of a few years ago, so I tend to agree with those that say that at least hot is not the best environment for the foam. I'm no venturing a guess on humidity or lack thereof.
The good thing is that there are cures for the deteriorating foam and if you dread it, you can preemptively repair.
