I’ll definitely be investigating... Thanks, Lby Landsboxster - Main Forum
Unless I’m completely misreading them, mine seem to be (19-22) Left high, left low, right low, right high. In that order... Someone could have snapped the sockets in the wrong place at some point I suppose... 19 and 22 when jumpered turn on the high speed. The middle two, when jumpered, do nothing. The right side matches the schematic, left seem to be switched. I’ll double check tonight thby Landsboxster - Main Forum
One thing I’ve noticed on my relays 19, 20, 21, 22... 19 Left and 22 Right are the high speed fan relays, and 20 and 21 are the low speeds, respectively.by Landsboxster - Main Forum
QuoteBoxsterra and more info here Thank you! Both of my resistors are not working so this really helped until I can get them replaced! thanks for the forum, all. Lby Landsboxster - Main Forum
Also, why couldn’t I just wire both the low speed and high speed wires together, so that the fan runs high speed when it calls for either low or high? Other than noisy, what would be the issue with this? High speed would kick on at the lower temps and would cool it, and should be ok?by Landsboxster - Main Forum
Ok, so, verified that all relays work, and did 87 to 30 jumper and have high speed fans at both corners, but no low speed. I guess I’ll order two 5$ resistors and see about installing...by Landsboxster - Main Forum
Hey all, Got water pump and coolant reservoir in and working well! Just verifying the fans situation... evidently there is a high and low speed on the front two cooling fans. When I start the car and push the A/C button, both fans cycle on and off, and seem to be working correctly. When I idle the car and the temp creeps just over 180, both fans come on. When does the low speed vs. high speed kby Landsboxster - Main Forum
QuoteJMstamford,ct Sounds familiar. It was a bear of a job. Really was! And, ironically enough, way harder than the water pump. Got her filled with antifreeze! Now, just waiting on the idler pulley. Got trunk, carpet, etc reassembled.by Landsboxster - Main Forum
Soo, I couldn’t tighten that last clamp, using a worm gear type! I finally went back to original spring clamps (I have the flexible remote tool too) and removed some kind of air pump thing on the right side, and was able to complete the job. Whew. Glad these tanks only bust once every 18 years... Now just waiting on some antifreeze and that last idler pulley. Woo hoo!by Landsboxster - Main Forum
Yah could be. He does say ‘we have better experiences with the metal...’ not sure what that means...by Landsboxster - Main Forum
I couldn’t get the inside spring clamp reattached, even with the flexible tool so I opted for a worm drive clamp on that specific tube...by Landsboxster - Main Forum
Hey all, I I’ve cut and pasted the letter that the CEO of the company sent to me... The part number of the original pump, if it’s 997 at the beginning, evidently that’s for a different car or engine? All I know is, the Gates 997 pump definitely didn’t fit my car but the Geba 996 did? So, not sure what that means, or which car the 997 pump is for, but it would bolt on but, not spin withouby Landsboxster - Main Forum
I guess I shouldn’t call them ‘American’ clamps. Turns out, they are Swedish. in 1896, the Swedish inventor Knut Edwin Bergström took out a patent for his advanced worm-drive hose clamp. Shortly after, he founded the “Allmänna Brandredskapsaffären E. Bergström & Co.” in 1896, ABA for short. And as of 1949, the entrepreneur Ove Skafte Rasmussen and his Rasmussen GmbH conqueredby Landsboxster - Main Forum
Oh, one little trick I’ll pass along. Remove the clamp on the hoses, slide a tiny screwdriver under the hose where it meets the pipe. Spray wd40 into the gap. The hoses will pull right off.by Landsboxster - Main Forum
Getting there! Interesting comments! I do know they recommend lifting the cab off a 2000 era F150 to change an engine, but I didn’t. Was super tight and wasn’t sure it would go in, but I did it. I’ve owned 94 cars, but never an English one... Kinda want one tho! Meanwhile, Boxster update is: GEBA water pump is in! I received my Gates pump in the mail. Part number 42579. Didn’t fit! The impeller touched the internals of the engine and wouldn’t spin freely. I Sent it back for refund. I ordered a Geba pump, part number G3000848192GEB. I then wrote a note to the Geba company. They confirmed that a 996 and a 997 pump Impeller are different sizes. They also said, their pumps are metal impellers. I actuallyby Landsboxster - Main Forum
I’ve been mechanicing for years, and I always felt like the S10 Chevy’s were also designed by engineers and not mechanics. Cram everything together then drop a tiny body on the truck... they were horrible to work on. I’m finding the Porsche weird, but not super hard, surprisingly. I owned 2 Pontiac Fiero’s, among my other many cars, and they might have been number 2 in difficulty gettingby Landsboxster - Main Forum
Hey all, Just got my water pump and my overflow tank. Tank has small crack on bottom. Pump is being changed ‘just because’ car has 74k and probably original. Anyway, watching youtube videos on the tank replacement seems overly complicated. What was Porsche thinking? Anyway, does anyone have a cheat Shortcut to getting the tank out and in? Seems like, if the bottom firewall bolt hole In thby Landsboxster - Main Forum
Ok, so just replace it, and then probably good to go for another 70k? Thanks for the infoby Landsboxster - Main Forum
I researched and read that I should change my water pump. Car has 74,000 miles on it. Gates was recommended because of a metal impeller. Well, got my pump today. Is plastic Impeller. Called the Gates factory. Said they no longer make metal impeller for their Boxster water pumps. I’m super annoyed... I’m out 113$, or at best, gotta put the substandard Gates pump on it. Any suggestions? I heaby Landsboxster - Main Forum
Finally ‘fixed’ my recirculating/fresh air flap. Took out cabin air filter, and, I could feel the servo motor trying to open and close the flap when I activated circulating air, but I could also feel the gears stripping. So, took some bailing type wire, drilled tiny hole in corner of flap, with it open, and wired it open to the airbox top screws. “Whatever a German can over-engineer, aby Landsboxster - Main Forum
Hi, thanks for the information! Specifically tho, the flap under the cabin air filter; (it’s horizontally located directly under the filter and can easily be seen when filter is removed) when is it supposed to open? Does it go 100% open and then close when the recirculate button is pushed? The reason I’m asking, is, it is completely closed, and nothing I did changed that when I set temps aby Landsboxster - Main Forum
Merry Christmas, and thanks for the opportunity to be part of the community! I bought a 2002 Boxster S, 72,000 miles, last summer. Lots of tinkering and small things wrong with it, but over all has been a joy to own and drive. I’ve noticed the cabin, when heat is on, seems rather stuffy. I don’t think the recirculating/fresh air flap, which is located under the cabin air filter, is openiby Landsboxster - Main Forum
