Today: Oil. Tomorrow: Brake / clutch fluid. Now, if I could only keep fluids off the floor for once.by Ryan_K - Blue Ridge Boxster Summit (BRBS)
Wouldn't it be fun if this became an option in the designers' minds for the 718? Seems it was seen as a solution in the past at VW for at least the GTI (and perhaps the new Golf R). Seems like I remember Ford doing something like this in the past as well. Talk about adding insult to injury.by Ryan_K - Main Forum
Many years ago, I knew a guy who worked in paint group of the Subaru plant in Lafayette, IN. He said it was common for cars to get dinged / scratched in the lot after they came off the line and before they got loaded onto transport (or as they were being loaded). Those cars were brought back in and reworked. I think we as owners have dreams of our cars being perfect little angels when they getby Ryan_K - Main Forum

Interesting. I've read up a bit on the ZDDP additive -seems like that might be the stuff to get. Of course, an alternative would be to get a bottle of the ZDDP and add it myself. Of course, that still puts me in the position of using a non-Porsche approved oil.by Ryan_K - Main Forum
Not wanting to start a new oil thread just for the fun of it, but I’m hoping someone can make me feel better about which oil to go with on this next change. I've taken responsibility to do the next oil change on Chuck's 03 S. I’m being indecisive on oils, which is primarily due to the overwhelming number of posts/opinions on which oil to go with -lots of opinions on changes in formulationsby Ryan_K - Main Forum
Anyone care to do this with their Boxster 3.2? You know, for science... http://youtu.be/wKNhjBNTA-Iby Ryan_K - Main Forum
QuoteBoxsterra Is that when you change the filter you can inspect the filter element for metal, which typically gives you early warning to problems. Of course, you'll want to change the filter every time during the break in period, but I don't think that's where you're at. Whether or not you change the filter every single time, props for doing it yourself. How I picture shops chaning oil and wby Ryan_K - Main Forum
As Maurice had commented, the POR-15 stuff is mentioned on quite a few car enthusiast sites. I've never used it myself, but it sounds like some pretty tough stuff. The only complaints I've read about it are that it doesn't have a UV inhibitor in it. Shouldn't be a problem for wheel wells since it won't see direct sun. There are similar products out there with UV inhibitors in them, but they cby Ryan_K - Main Forum
You might think about draining the fuel tank and give it some fresh gas. I'm sure the other more experienced among us will have additional things to add.by Ryan_K - Main Forum
Just got the coupons from Costco last night - $10 off coupon for Mobile 1 (6qt case). And they almost always have 2 or 3 viscosities of in stock (5W-30, 5W-20, 10W-30). Should put it in the $27 range, or something like $4.50/qt.by Ryan_K - Main Forum
I felt a little bit of jealousy coming from the front of the garage as we pulled out with the Boxster on our way to BRBS last Thursday, but I think they're starting to get along now. Too bad the Boxster's sleepover will end in a couple of weeks. Guess that means we'll have to start shopping for one of our own.by Ryan_K - Main Forum
You can bet I'll remember a bucket next year. Though, Kim and I may show up with a different car... Just put new rubber on Chuck's car (Hankook V12 Evo) yesterday, now if the rain would just hold off for a few hours in the evenings, maybe I could get out there and give her a wash.by Ryan_K - Main Forum
Sounds about right. We should be supporting Costco due to the much better labor practices anyhow. I think I bought a box of 6 1-qt bottles of Mobile 1 from Costco a few months back for something like $25 -and I could sleep better at night. I feel a little dirty now for even starting this thread...by Ryan_K - Main Forum
For a few more ideas, one of our BRBS sponsors has a few different hoists & overhead storage units: CarGuyGarage.com. Don't see where they use any roll-away rails though. Be prepared to pay through the nose at Grainger... Get the same stuff at Lowes, Home Depot, or TSC. Depending on how much weight you're thinking you might want to double up on tracks & trolleys. Not that I'm the biggest fan of Walmart, but they do have a good price on Mobil 1 full synthetic right now. 5qt of many varieties for $22.47. Hard to beat that with a stick (with all the splashing & such). Of course, finding it in stock might be another matter.by Ryan_K - Main Forum
Very much looking forward to seeing your new machine next year. What did you decide about the Polar Silver once you saw Chuck's at BRBS? By the way, sorry it wasn't as clean as it could've been -we should have brought a bucket. We'll know for next year.by Ryan_K - Main Forum
We had a great time and will definitely be attending next year. This was my first BRBS and everyone just felt like family (in a good way) A big thank you to Maurice and Stephan and everyone else for spending so much time working on Chuck's Boxster! After we got back home, I followed your recommendations and fixed the mal-formed foam drain underneath the top with a hair dryer and a weight. Workeby Ryan_K - Blue Ridge Boxster Summit (BRBS)

Box rail with some rollers and a cheap electric winch (or manual block & tackle) makes a great way to lift and then roll the suspended gear out of the way. Example rails & associated hardware: Some Lowes and Tractor Supply locations sell them too. Though, to get bends (90 degree turns) they're usually special order. FYI you can "borrow" most or all of the tools to remove the ball joints from your local cheapo auto parts store (autozone, advance auto, etc). You usually have to pay the cost of the tool and they refund the amount back to you when you bring it back. My local advance has an equivalent of every tool discussed here, and they're of better quality than the HF stuff. With that said, when I had to rby Ryan_K - Main Forum
