I bought the car in January 2004 (ex one owner 4 year lease in the Chicago area) when we lived in Indianapolis and it had 46K miles then. This past May (on my birthday no less) the odometer rolled through 100K miles so that works out to about 87,000 km's of flat six top down fun!by Indybox - Main Forum
Thanks ... and to think the car will celebrate her 25th birthday in July 2024!by Indybox - Main Forum
Annual pre-hibernation trip to Canadian Tire to pick up some fuel stabilizer. Boxster is tucked away in the garage for the winter now ... good news ... only 137 days until spring!by Indybox - Main Forum
Thanks! As it happens I’m actually thinking of getting an IR filter but this was just taken with the Acros film simulation and digital red filter. f11, 1/85 s and ISO 160 This snap reminds me of a B&W photo that I posted a while back of a Gentian Blue Spyder.by Indybox - Main Forum
Here's my '99 Forest Green Metallic Boxster rendered in Black & White. Snapped this last weekend on the south shore of Montreal island with the Pointe-Claire Yacht Club in the background. Photo taken with my trusty Fuji X100V camera using the Acros film simulation.by Indybox - Main Forum
Took this snap at a recent Porsche Cars & Coffee event ... and ... how about that excellent orange PBX hat eh!by Indybox - Main Forum
I had the original dual row IMS retrofit bearing from LN Engineering installed in August 2010 when the car had 67297 miles. This was a preventative measure taken before I relocated from Indianapolis back to Montreal in 2011. The original bearing appeared to be OK when we removed it and there were no other signs of engine distress.by Indybox - Main Forum
Couldn't agree more! I recently attended a Porsche Cars-n-Coffee event and I think I was the only 986.1 in attendance and definitely the only car with Forest Green Metallic paint! Also, I may have been the only participant sporting the world famous PBX hat eh!by Indybox - Main Forum
On my birthday this week, I had the pleasure of watching the odometer roll through 100,000 miles! While I was out that day, I happened across this green Boss 302 Mustang and had to take a picture ... the owner said the colour is called "Gotta Have It Green"!! My Forest Green metallic 1999 Boxster will celebrate its 24th birthday in July ... still going strong. Also on my birthday (NBC) ... the 10by Indybox - Main Forum
Useful summary of M96/M97 engine issues “Knowledge is Power” in the April Pano. The table on page 93 lists single-row as the type of bearing on the 986.1 but shouldn’t that read dual-row?by Indybox - Main Forum
Cranking up the way-back time machine on this fine St Patrick's Day morning ... and only 3 days until spring. Alas the roads here in Quebec won't be fit for Porsche driving for another month but it won't be long now. Looking forward to my 19th season of Boxstering and hitting 100K miles soon on my '99. So, two photos. The top photo shows me at Joe Rizza Porsche in Chicago on January 9th, 2004 aby Indybox - Main Forum
That brings back some great memories ... thanks! In January 2004, I picked up my new to me one owner (ex-lease in Chicago) 1999 Forest Green Metallic Boxster while I was living in Indianapolis. The car had 45947 miles at the time ... it will reach 100K miles this coming spring. My first and only Porsche to date and I well remember PPBB right from the start of my Boxster journey. Is there any evidence to suggest that Tiptronic equipped 986 Boxsters (97-99) are any less prone to major engine failure (IMS etc) than cars with manual transmissions? Asking on behalf of someone that's looking at a '98 (170K km's) with Tiptronic. Thanks.by Indybox - Main Forum
Great memories ... thanks Guenter! And how about that renewed Boxster ... she's a beauty ... well done! PS: Only 71 days until spring!by Indybox - Main Forum
A month ago, my '99 986 had her pre-hibernation service at the dealer. There was a pre-owned 718 Spyder in Gentian Blue on the showroom floor and I just happened to have my new Fuji camera with me. I used the Acros B&W film simulation to take these snaps. And here's my little Forest Green Boxster all ready for hibernation after the year end service. Current mileage is 99385 so I'll havby Indybox - Main Forum
My 1999 986 is within 1000 km's of 100K miles ... not sure we'll get there before winter hibernation but having some fun autumn drives along the way. I recently purchased a new camera (Fujifilm X100V) to up my iPhone photography game and I took this photo recently on a drive just west of Montreal. Not sure if I've mentioned this before but I took up road cycling back in 2020. Having tons of fun rby Indybox - Main Forum
It was all about the "B's" two weeks ago on my birthday when I managed to ride my Bicycle, sail my Boat and drive the Boxster to some excellent BBQ ... how about them B's eh!by Indybox - Main Forum
Cafe and bakery ("deux grains au moulin") on the St Lawrence River just west of Montreal ... popular with the cyclists ... me included. Perfect spring day for a visit with my '99 Boxster and how about that PBX hat eh! Les Cèdres, QC 25 May 2022by Indybox - Main Forum
Fantastic milestone ... congrats! My '99 will reach 100K miles this year. Great photo of you and your lad ... what a team!by Indybox - Main Forum
One previous owner ... maybe it was Elvis.by Indybox - Main Forum
Wow ... awesome ride ... well done!! Alas, my daily driver is a Wolfsburg Edition ... 2014 Golf Wagon! ... not the same but it gets me through Montreal winters! Looking forward to my 18th season of top down motoring in my '99 986 this year when I expect to roll through 100,000 miles before she goes back into hibernation!by Indybox - Main Forum
Glad to hear you are on the mend. Best wishes for 2022!!by Indybox - Main Forum
Snapped this picture just before the car went into hibernation on November 22nd. Only 91 days until spring!!by Indybox - Main Forum
Most excellent indeed!! My '99 will probably reach 100K miles next summer. My year end service was recently completed before the long winter hibernation. The mag plug had a light film of fines. The filter had five very small chain pad wear chips with the largest being 2 mm across. Looking back at the filter debris over several recent years, I'm noting that the amount of debris (chain pad wear chiby Indybox - Main Forum
