Its no secret that cars are in short supply, and Porsches are essentially unavailable - on tight allocation, sold before they arrive and going either to the best customers or the highest bidder. So no, not surprising. I'd walk in, sit down, get the lay of the land, and find out what the process and timing is - or wait for a better time.by grant - Main Forum
It was good for 1.5 runs. But the gap between runs (even with a 15-20 car field) was insufficient to charge it for another ~4 lap go at VIR. Int he sidebar they commented that in the typical HPDE - 4 x 20-30 minute sessions/day, you would only complete one, sans DC fast charger. I believe this was a Tesla. I don't recall the charging tech (voltage/system); but remember most tracks are way off tby grant - Main Forum
jiggle, play. It has so many manifestations it can be frustrating. Could the charger have failed and the battery be "beyond dead"?by grant - Main Forum
Yes, measuring the old works (a but messy, but works) yet i still just HATE the idea that i cannot confirm either mechanically or electrically. Sigh. Gby grant - Main Forum
thanks. My thoughts were 1) HHS2000 (awesome stuff but costly), 2) lithium, 3) what i have (teflon spray lube) Was not sure if it is advisable to use a dry lube due to exposure to debris. Gby grant - Main Forum
That's good to know since eventually I'll have to replace them. But given that the noise went away, i'm thinking it was either the motor struggling or the arm binding/jumping. What do you lubricate that metal track with? TIA, Thanks Pedroby grant - Main Forum
Hi All, I have a 2004 base (as most know): The convertible top recently began making new, somewhat strained, noises while the clam shell opens. Once the calm shell is complete the actual top movement is normal. I opened it up and looked around. I thought i saw one of the swing arms out of alignment (in retrospect i think not). What i did discover is that the metal tracks/rails that they sliby grant - Main Forum

Such a labor of love. Why 15 qts? I quess i need the rundown on what you have built? Linky to the basic plan? Grantby grant - Main Forum
If a control in the manufacturing process was off, an inspection series done wrong, some could be affected and others not. in casting temperature control (cooling process) is pretty important, and most critical parts are also scanned in one of various methods for voids or micro-cracks. If that was done wrong.... By thius is all speculationby grant - Main Forum
So my original Boxster is now 18 years old, so a bit behind you, but i fully expect to have it in another 10 years. The only thing i wish i could do, but is simply not worth the trouble, is to replace the perished dust boots on my struts. Struts are very strong (M030) - so removal, replace, re-align would be for $25 worth of plastic. Probably a pass. Sigh. Overall the car looks and drives liby grant - Main Forum
My local dealer will sell at no ADM/adjustment. But you will wait and wait. I see used cars with few miles at huge premiums. I don't know how many handle the obvious - how to get even more on new cars. I do know that dealers have been under pressure to make sales (and/or presumably profits) despite the shortage due to the costs associated with their fixed cost infrastructure. Gby grant - Main Forum

Hey Steve, where do you get to test 170 - aside from a race track? Any other impressions on the car? Always nice to get thoughts. Grantby grant - Main Forum
Whether or not all the DIY and rebuilds have been a wise use of money, they have been a fun and educational ride. And i will say that the car has a very honest quality - way beyond when you had it of "i tell you what I'm doing, and i do what you say, if I can". It doesn't lie, or bite. I love the mid-engine chassis. And while the 981 chassis is much better dynamically, its also heavier, biggerby grant - Main Forum
I generally find that "stiff" is mistakenly associated with "good handling". As a buddy (and PCA member) who is Pirelli's on-site race engineer says "let the suspension do its job". Too often reduced roll is associated with reduced weight transfer, which as you know, is not true. So i have no issue with softer. It was the front/rear balance that surprised me. reading your reply, i get it - butby grant - Main Forum
So, you have another car with a gazillion(s)miles. Good for you. I don't recall where I went quiet. Your blue 986S has had a few iterations. A the moment it sits motor-less with 267,000 mile son the chassis. In many ways its been a poor use of resources, in others a great journey. And an old boxster, no matter how modified, is a great learning tool. A buddy of mien and I shared his very siby grant - Main Forum
Hmmm. I have tried to post three times and been told its a duplicate and not allowed. Yet my post does not show. Gby grant - Main Forum
Pedro- That surprises me. At least for dynamic conditions that means you are going between a loose and tight setting - transferring dynamic weight to the front more and less. You don't find that an issue? What i have fund, and shock dyno tests support this - is that the setting son PSS9s are so variable that you don't really know where they are. ... is in my owner's Manual. It confirms, unless i missed something, that there is no provision to get a valid measurement under normal oil change conditions. It is the first time i have seen mention of the residual oil in the integrated sump. thanks! Grantby grant - Main Forum
Water boils at 212, which is substantially higher than their "warm" spec. ( i don't know the spec, but i do know that it finally gave me a reading after the oil change at ~ 175 degF) Moreover, it boils off slowly. It might take 15 minutes at, say, 230 degF to completely boil off water ( and acids). On the other hand, the motor expands when hot, and changes the internal volume. backed the car up ramps after driving a while. truned off. Did stuff, came back and checked oil on whatever angle it was on - enough that 1/2 qt didn't drain when i changed the oil. So the answer ought to have been "sorry, no reading" or "significantly low". It was spot on. Which confirms that it took a snapshot and played it back. ====> IT LIES! warm, and backed up on ramps in the garage. I will see if i get a reading. I will then take it down the ramps and try. I may need to park it warm, and without starting it or otherwise letting its brain know, jack up the front or rear and leave it on blocks, and THEN try. Gimmee a dipstick!!!!!!!!by grant - Main Forum
