for a number of years, it may make sense to do preventative maintenance like the IMS bearing and other things. However, as we all know, some cars never experience an IMS bearing failure. For me, it was an easy choice. The car is perfect with relatively low miles and I can see keeping it for a long time and then giving it to my son. As a precaution, I had the IMS bearing on my '02 S replaced with the LN Engineering bearing. I ordered the car new and, even though not driven a lot, it's part of the family. Worked was performed by Dearing Automotive in Tucson.......an absolutely excellent shop, by the way. At 42,000 miles, the original bearing itself was perfectly intact, but oil which had seeped into and around the bearingby JiminAZ - Main Forum
Screech on startup is probably the starter motor as it disengages from the flywheel. It can be lubricated. I had this problem once.by JiminAZ - Main Forum
and it's been a great car. Now 40,000 miles without any major issues. Am having the IMS upgraded next month, the AOS replaced as a precaution, and the clutch inspected since the transmission will be out anyway. Both of your considered cars are probably worth having......if it were my decision, I'd go with the '02 and do some preventative maintenance just for the peace of mind.by JiminAZ - Main Forum
