BTW, given the boots are ripped and we don't know for how long (left side only) and little evidence of grease, I have decided to replace the axle on that side, the best deal I found was Suncoast Parts. -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
The only difference I can see is they don't touch the ball joints and lowering part of the exhaust. Mark pointed a link to the article in his first reply. "There are two methods you can use to remove the axle from the car. You can remove the wheel bearing carrier as detailed in Pelican Technical Article: Wheel Bearing Replacement, or you can drop down the rear sway bar and exhaust to gain enoughby ericp - Main Forum
I saw that in Pelican's site, looked easier than dealing with the suspension/ball joints.by ericp - Main Forum
Thanks Mark, That doesn't look too scary at all. I can handle that. I have the 101 projects book and was going to look later to see if the book covered it, and the link is helpful. -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
I could replace the boots, they are ripped and no grease in them right now, which is why they are suggesting new joints. No mention of the shafts, I suppose until they get in there they can't tell. I could go to a local shop I have used and have them do it, are the boots easy to replace? Is it a DIY type of job?by ericp - Main Forum
Hey All, I have an 01 Base, just wondering the level of difficulty to replace the CV joints. I am fairly adept at doing my own work, just never done CV joints so figured I'd ask first. Thanks, -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
I may regret this; I take mine through a few times a year when I'm in a rush and it's dirty. -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
Removed the front bumper cover to clean out the crap in the radiator ducts and decided to add a little color before putting it back on. -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
It's a 2001 Base. I was able to get both valves replaced and that didn't fix the P0446 code, this past weekend I was able to get the front valve (under the drivers side intake manifold) replaced. it is too soon to see if it fixed the code. BUT, it did fix the problem I was having where it was very hard to startup after fueling up. I filled up yesterday and started right up, first time in a whileby ericp - Main Forum
That valve is in fact behind the passenger headlight assembly. I was able to get to it and remove it by taking out the headlight and working on it through that opening. Unfortunately I had ordered the other valve, which I did replace, and will have to wait for this valve to be shipped. I wasn't able to get the other valve completely seated, and where I am going to have to do this again soon anywaby ericp - Main Forum
That's a trip I would love to make in my boxster. I did drive a uhaul from South Lake Tahoe, CA to NH 3 weeks ago, wasn't as fun, although nice sceneray in Nevada, Wyoming and Nebraska. Did you take Rt 90 across? I think I would like to take that route some day.by ericp - Main Forum
I'll let you know if I am successful this wekeend. -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
It's part #9 in this link but where is that top assembly located? Above the canister?by ericp - Main Forum
OK, I ordered the electric one, someone on renntech said I should try removing the entire evap canister to replace (this was on a MY '9). I will try that this weekend. I did see one schematic that possibly showed this part at the end of the vacuum line at the engine, which seems to make sense to what you are saying. I think I have the PDF that shows parts. I plan to dig tht up and see what I canby ericp - Main Forum
I took the front tire off and part of the wheel well covering but was unable to locate the vapor canister valve. Any thoughts?by ericp - Main Forum
I think it's located in the front passenger wheel well? Does that seem correct?by ericp - Main Forum
Hey guys, I bought a new Vapor Canister Purge Valve and can't seem to figure out where it is. Anyone able o point me to its location? Thanks, -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
I purchased a JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT head unit, nothing fancy, but does BT, USB, satellite (optional part I use the AUX to connect mine). it can also pair 2 cell phones which is handy. I also have upgraded the dash speakers to Polks, and also purchased Harvey's rear speaker setup a few years ago. I picked up a 6x40 AMP that is the stock upgrade, I think I had to run wires through the firewall for tby ericp - Main Forum
It appears that even though only the cable frayed and broke you have to replace the whole trunk actuator ($160). I am working on a fix myself first. -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
I fueled up a week ago and only put in 1/2 tank. Started up, although seemed to be slightly rough. Then filled up a few days later and had the issue first reported where it was hard to start. I am believing more in the vapor collection theory as all other starting is fine without issue. I will inspect the hoses and such to see if I can trace it. -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
I got the door spring replaced yesterday, thanks for the images! I still need to fix the rear trunk release, on the 2001 do I have to replace the entire actuator? It works fine except the cable frayed and broke and I can't find information on finding that replacement. The number given above looks to be for the earlier models that had a manual trunk release in he cabin, not the electric one. Thaby ericp - Main Forum
Thanks Marc, I will test your theory about filling up as well as inspect lines, etc... I never top off when I fill up, as soon as the nozzle clicks I stop. -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
Is the fuel filter easy to replace? I don't know where it's located.by ericp - Main Forum
Hi All, Each time I fill up I have a rough time starting afterwards, I have to keep the key turned for 10 - 15 seconds and tap the gas pedal a bit to get started. Only happens after fueling up, any thoughts as to what I should look at to deal with this? 2001 Base Boxster Thanks, -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
Guess I missed that option so probably working as expected. Thanks for the tip!by ericp - Main Forum
Hey Guys, I sent 3 PM messages today but they don't show up in my sent messages. Just wondering if they should? Thanks, -Ericby ericp - Main Forum
Hey All, I have a 2001 Base Boxster, I am looking for the part numbers for the rear trunk cable (mine broke, motor still works so assuming cable broke) and also the spring behind the inside drivers door handle (I think it broke, handle is loose and window drops when I hit a good bump). Also, the passenger windows doesn't always drop when opening the door (I think mostly when getting out) and Iby ericp - Main Forum
So just curious about AC recharging. Several options available and I am wondering if one is better than the other. Auto store recharge kit ~$20 Local repair shop ~$50 Indy shop $? Porsche dealer $? Not that cost is the decider, but I've recharged many cars over the years using auto shop kits, seem to work ok, but are the other methods better? Better r134a or process or both? I need to rechargeby ericp - Main Forum
