I didn't have anything to add to this thread until I opened my mail today. I bought an Outback last fall and today I received an offer from Subaru of North America (so, it is probably pretty good) for an extended warranty. It seems to offer pretty complete coverage. The deal is: 6 years of coverage (I assume that means 3 years of extended warranty after the new car 3 year warranty) that costby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I agree, the 911 sound is superior to the Boxster. I was underwhelmed with the sound of my 1999 Boxster. Yes, there were some tunes from 5K rpms and beyond, but still not outstanding. Then I drove a 911 (a guy at work who I didn't even know that well just gave me the keys!) Got in, turned the key, and really, really, liked the sound of 911 at start up. However, after that it wasn't all thatby Bobtesa - Main Forum
It is too long a story to tell, but I got tagged going 82 in a 50 zone. 5 points and already had 3. 8 points in MD puts you on "probation" or something like that for a year during which if you get any moving violation whatsoever, you lose your license for 6 months!!! I hired a lawyer and got it dropped to 1 point and $175 + $400 for the lawyer. Now, not to knock lawyers, some are my friends.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
The Boxster loaner had pdk and sports chrono (I guess, because it had the little timer on top of the dash). If it had launch control, I didn't notice a button. Now guessing from what I think I have read: With a manual tranny, sports chrono somehow "quickens" the throttle response. It doesn't make the car any faster, it just makes the throttle respond faster some how. And, for a manual trannyby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I originally had a 1999, now a 2008, both at Tischer, and always get an Enterprise car. I got an Enterprise car this time too, but when the part was going to take 4-5 days (including the weekend) to get here, they gave me the Boxster loaner. After my great review, if pdk sales go up at Tischer, I expect next time to drive away in a GT3by Bobtesa - Main Forum

Joris, Can you put pdk in neutral at any speed? Or, is there a safety issue so that its mapping requires a gear at, say, over 20 mph?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I had my 08S manual in to repair/replace the PSE (earlier posts) and got a 2011 base with PDK as a loaner. It turned out to be an ok weather weekend in MD and I had plans to visit a friend in Easton, so I had a nice ride and thought I’d share some impressions. There has been plenty posted here about pdk and like many things it comes down to personal preference, but additional input may be helby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Jim, Let me try to clarify the situation for PSE in case it helps to inform your decision of exhaust types. I don't know anyting about after market exhaust, but if it is a system w/o mechanical moving parts, then you couldn't have this problem. However, PSE has an electronically controlled moving part, the flaps. The way things are set up, you can't just "leave it on all the time". If yourby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I talked with the Porsche service manager about removing the flaps. That would be fine with me as I always like the sound "on". I don't think that they can take this route as a warranty repair, but I will see if it can be done if it happens out of warranty. But, as the service manager explained, that will require taking off the rear bumper, removing the system, cutting into the muffler, removiby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Yes, I too push the pse at start up in spring, summer and fall, but I don't do it on my winter warm up runs (I drive the car about once or twice a week in winter to fully warm up just to keep it running and the fluids running through it). So, pse was off. Let me distinquish between two pse noises. First, there were posts here about a year ago about a singly occurring noise (not repetitive) at,by Bobtesa - Main Forum
My 2008 developed a clicking noise at cold start, so I brought it to the dealer. It turns out to be the "flaps" in the SE unit. There have been discussions here about the pros/cons of SE. While it adds a nice tune, I would not order this $2,500 option, but it was standard on my RS Spyder. For folks considering this option, you should know that mine is not the first SE failure the dealer hasby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Grant, thanks for keeping us posted and the final results and pic. IMS issues have been hashed to bits here, but your post made me think of something we may never know - Does an IMS go bad in bits and pieces over a long period, or does it deteriote and implode very quickly? If the former, then maybe yours might have been good for 100k, but if the later, who knows, it might have blown next monthby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I watched this video several times. I assume this guy is a very experienced or maybe a professional driver. first, only watched his footwork, then only watched the tac, then his gear work, fourth watched the track. Really nice set of linked videos, I'll watch some more, there is a lot to learn here. I have done DE and autox, but I never heal/toed. I may try it now. Ruby, I do pretty much what you do. if I have to park the box, and not my daily driver, in a public parking lot, then I park, as my wife says, "In the next state." On occasion, I find other nice cars parked in outer space(s) and I park near them, usually one open space between us. It almost seems like saying "hi" to a fellow car enthusiast.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I don't know what kind of radio I have in my 08, it is the standard unit with Bose speakers. I don't us FM modulation, I had a unit (not Dennison) professionally installed that is hard wired into the fiber optics. It works great with my ipod. I assume that I can plug in an mp3 or a sirius unit using the input wire, but I don't know for sure.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I looking for decent music when I take what are going to be more frequent long drives. (My daughter, and more importantly, my grandson, are about a 75 minute drive; and my kayaking buddy is about 2 hours away.) Free radio just doesn't cut it for me anymore on these trips - too little music, too repeditive, way too many commercials. I have a friend with an iphone and he like plugging in interneby Bobtesa - Main Forum
If this had been discussed in the archives, let me know and I'll check, but I don't recall seeing much about it here. I am thinking about getting sirius radio. I had an aux in installed in my 2008 Boxster. And, I also now have an Outback that has aux in. My thought is to have a unit that I can simply switch between cars (why pay for two subscriptions?). First quesiton: Does the aux in workby Bobtesa - Main Forum

John, very very nice. some 911 tails are stunning compared to, OMG dare I say it w/o getting flamed, Boxster butts. Box tails are, IMHO, not the best angle of the car. But some wider sized 911s, like John's are gorgeous.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
does a great job of keeping off the sun and bird poop. My first box was ten when I traded it in and the top (treated every two years) looked like new. The paint too, but the canvass tops are more prone to weathering.by Bobtesa - Main Forum

Just a heads up for folks who are not pcna members, but who are interested - Starting in the current issue of Panorama, Dec 2010, is the first of a 3-part series on replacing a 2.5 engine with a 3.4. I have not read it yet, so no comments, but some non-pcna folks might be interested in getting these issues.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I have never posted a pic because the IT just sounds to doundting for me. How sad is that? I wanted to post a pic of my new rear decal, so I took a pic with my phone and sent it to my email. And, I learne something new! My phone informs me that the pic is 1280/960 and is jpg (under "File Information", like that does me any good . I peruse the board occasionally and post rarely (unless I can add to a thread). I posted a few months ago when I became a first-time grandfather. When my little girl was yound I realized the greatest pain in the world would be to loose a child. Now, my greatest fear is that something will happen to my grandson - how I would feel for him, but also for my daughter and son-in-law. Mike, Your notby Bobtesa - Main Forum
that folks have finally figured out the Cayman is a Boxster coupe and NOT a lesser priced 911? There was speculation here a while back on this topic that folks who don't know the Porsche line up that well thought Caymans were in the 911 line. These people may have dropped out of the Cayman market, along with folks (like me!) who did not buy a Cayman becuase it did not make sense to pay a $5K prby Bobtesa - Main Forum
