I wonder what is involved to "re-flash" a Boxster CPU to get the extra 25 hp? Is that something we could do with a group purchase? So, for example, say 20 guys in DC (were I live) approached an indy shop do this. They do the research, set things up, and arrange a dedicated half or full day to re-flash 20 cars. Let's say it's $100/car = $2,000 to the shop for probably no parts, just one man'sby Bobtesa - Main Forum

I treat my plastic with Vinylex. But, I have not treated the plastic covers in the door panels because I don't want anything to get on the speakers, but also because there are so many tiny holes, I figure the Vinylex would just accumulate in the holes, nukes and crannies. So, it occurred to me to remove the plastic pieces, than I can safely spray the entire piece and dry if off with air (from sby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I had not heard of this and did not know it, but apparently disconnecting the battery with the ignition on (or maybe even with the key in the ignition) can be harmful as you wrote. My tech mentioned that too. I didn't have the key in the ignition, so that didn't cause my problem, but it's good to know not to do that. I do know that simply having the key in the ignition in the off position drawby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Harvey, Yes, I was part of the country rides through Skyline drive, and the Summit Point DE when we had the track and instructors all to our 18 car selves. I forgot about driving the old Chevy's w/o ABS. It was fascinating and hands on learning to, in a safe setting, to fully lock the brakes, turn the steering wheel, and NOTHING happened! That's the extreme part of the turning circle taught iby Bobtesa - Main Forum
No mice or rodents in the car, although I think a spider was living there. Haven't seen him for awhile, maybe he got motion sick and left. I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow. When I get back I'll try the battery disconnect The tech mentioned the alternator. I imaging there is a way to test it in the shop. Keep in mind, none to this existed until the battery died. It seems too much of a coinby Bobtesa - Main Forum
This is not a knock on anyone for any reason. It is just individual differences. I know I don't hear subtle things in music as do others. I enjoy it, but a lot is lost on me. Some people can smell/taste all the fruity tones in wine. I like some wines, but a very good wine is probably lost on me. I used to play competitive amateur golf at the state level. I think I appreciate what the pros doby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Harvey, If you are who I think you are - you were in the DC area and moved to Florida, right? Didn't you go from a Boxster to the dark side? Now back to mid-engine (Cayman S). Congrats on the new baby, but please let us know why the change of heart. Bob - from the original 1990's breakfast and drive group in DCby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I doubt I have a water problem. It is not a daily driver and not driven in the rain (although I may have been caught once or twice in the 5 years I have owned it). I check the drains regularly, and when I clean the car I usually clean under the seats and have not seen any sign of water. I'll list the codes below, but as I said, the car and all it's components run and work fine. e-gas is finby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I left the running lights on, then went on vacation. Brilliant, I know. So, the battery was stone cold dead. The trickle charger was attached, but I can't blame it for not working through this problem on a 6 year old battery. So, it could be that the battery was so dead it caused additional problems. If that is it, what should I or the tech as a fix?by Bobtesa - Main Forum
I wrote a few days ago about a dead battery and getting the front hood opened. Did that and replaced the battery with EOM from dealer (so the battery itself is an unlikely culprit). With the new battery in the TPMS and the clock did not work, and the yellow and red check engine lights were on. I drove the car for a few long runs anyway and it ran great. I just thought that with the battery diby Bobtesa - Main Forum

Thanks to the folks who respond to my earlier post about opening the front hood when the battery is dead. Here is one piece of advice and one item of trivia. Advice: Do not leave your lug nut lock key in the trunk (front or rear). w/o the key, you can't remove the wheel, so you can't open the front hood using the pull release in the wheel well. Trivia: I bought a new battery (and bought a newby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I searched the archives. The only thing that came up involved newer cars, 981's. Mine is a 2008, 987. I left the parking lights on, then left for vacation. As you might expect, it was dead when I returned. The battery is original, so even if it takes a charge, I am going to replace it. But what about getting it started now? I have a few options and questions: Is it ok to use jumper cablesby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I owned my 1999 986 for 10 years and 50,000 miles. When I test drove a 987, I could almost swear I was driving the same car! Except it was a 987S and the power difference was very noticeable. Going from 200 to 300 HP, a 150% increase, was very nice. But the handling? Same car to me. I did DE in the 986, but not the 987. I autoxed the 987 and although it has better times because of the powby Bobtesa - Main Forum
My guess is that some one had "an order" in for your wheels. In about 2005 my daily driver was a 1999 Honda Civic. I came out one morning to find the entire rear light assembly removed. No damage to the car! They were not ripped out, but removed professionally so that replacement was easy. No damage to the trunk, body or wires. When I took my car in for replacement, my local indy mechanic sby Bobtesa - Main Forum
From folks are writing here, it must be that most Porsche owners see a lot of pitting in their windshields. My 08 Boxster windshield with 26K on it is far far worse than my Subaru with 58K. If the light catches it right, it looks like the night sky with little "stars" all over. Is there something about the glass that is different about glass in other cars? Does Porsche use a special light weiby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I can't address your questions, and maybe it's not my place to offer advice, but I'd caution you about your hypothetical drive home. On public roads, if you get to the point that you and your car end up in a field, it's likely not the same thing as on a track with plenty of run off. In public spaces the run off area maybe occupied by a tree. Or, if the road has a curb, you are less likely to sby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Farmer, Yes, I have been doing what you said -- put the top half way back up, put the top into the correct position, then complete the closing. I haven't tried this yet at 25 mph, but it works fine at zero. Doug, thanks for the details. I have yet to try the fix, but when I do, I'll report the results. I haven't had problem #1 with my 08, but I read this board and occasionally comment. Afterby Bobtesa - Main Forum

The top on my 2008 is having a little trouble closing properly. The trouble is on the passenger side, but I doubt the side is an issue. When the top closes the edge with a thin rubber gadget is outside the plastic piece that covers the window. To help clarify, the thin rubber piece is not visible when the top closes properly. It folds in behind the curved plastic piece that sits at the top ofby Bobtesa - Main Forum
It sounds like I should get a little warning with slow start ups, so I can wail to till the battery gets close to gone and have time to replace it. Hopefully, with a 2008 I can to it myself w/o having to talk to the cpu.by Bobtesa - Main Forum
My 2008 bought in the Spring 2009 has a 5 year old battery. I use a trickle charger and keep the distilled water at the correct level. However, What do others do as they approach the reasonable limits of a battery? Replace it a year or maybe two early just to be safe? Or, wait until it goes out? Are batteries all or none, or do they give some warning so you aren't stuck in a lurch? Can I iby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I have come to believe that some people drive in the left lane for any number of reasons that may make sense to them, but not to others. I have pretty much accepted that not all drivers drive as I wish they would drive. Having said that, a few comments and thoughts: Sure, we all know "what the left lane is for", but There is certainly nothing illegal about driving at the posted speed limit inby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I'll have to check out cars on the lot with black tops and interiors to see how a black roll bar looks. With a blue top / blue interior, black just wouldn't work, but I think with a black top/interior it should be fine. I brought my driver to the dealer today and it easily fit into the truck. However, I was surprised at the loss of overall trunk space. I am now going to bring my whole bag andby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Gary, Goodness that looks nice. Thanks for posting the pic. Would your roll bars have been black if you didn't match them to the car's exterior? I guess it is kind of a must with blue/blue to get the roll bars painted. what is "meh"? Bobby Bobtesa - Main Forum
I have PSE in my 2008s. I can't say it does all the much to enhance the symphony. Some, but no way $2,500 worth. Admittedly, it wails a bit better when kicking it from 5k to 7k rpms, but really not much difference below that. I test drove a 2014s yesterday w/o PSE and its sound at high rpms was not anything more thrilling than my 987 in non-PSE setting. Do we know for sure (I can ask my dealby Bobtesa - Main Forum
Guenter, so somehow the rear speaker placement requires an opening of sorts from the cabin to the engine compartment that is not there is cars w/o rear speakers? I wonder if it is possible in non-rear speaker cars to great such an access and cover it with a screen for looks, to allow more engine sounds into the cabin.by Bobtesa - Main Forum

In no particular order: Is it true that my golf clubs with light weight carry bag will no longer fit in the trunk as it does in the 987? That could be a deal breaker in itself. Driving 45 minutes on a nice day in a Boxster with golf at the end of the trail is, at my age, one of the finer things in life. Then, after a s*&^ round, the ride home lifts my spirits.
