I bet those are so good in the snow. So practical and elegant.by Dwass - Main Forum
Thanks a lot! Were there any changes you made to the dimensions that were necessary for the 986 top? Do you have any pictures of your top on the stand? A parts list would be awesome! Thanks for taking the time to look! -Dwassby Dwass - Main Forum
Has anyone purchased the, (I think) recently available, aftermarket headlights for the Boxster? I 've been searching all over the web and forums to see what opinions are, but I haven't seen any. They're all over ebay now and they range in price (despite all looking the same). The litronics just seem to continue to go up and up in price, its hard for me to justify. These might be an alternative oby Dwass - Main Forum
All the connections seem tight to me. This was my first time taking out the tail light. I laughed a little bit at the (unnecessarily) complex design. I've had my car for over 7 years now (it's 12 years old) and I haven't had a bulb go out in the tails yet. Compared to American manufactured cars this is a rocket-science design with that circuit board and separate housing. On my GM and Ford cars thby Dwass - Main Forum
I haven't seen that in ages! Thanks for the link! How do you like it? Does it work well with the 986 top? What do you do to cover/protect the top while in storage? Price is a little high compared to the ebay option, but I like the minimalistic design and build quality (from what I see in the image). Thanks! -Dwassby Dwass - Main Forum
I've seen this! I was hoping someone who was connected to this would post. If you have any additional information on it, I'd really appreciate it. Do you have a picture of the top in the stand? How long did it take to make? Cost? ETC. Thanks! -Dwassby Dwass - Main Forum
I can't do a ceiling or wall mount at this time so I prefer the cart or stand route. Thanks!by Dwass - Parts for Sale
Hey everyone, After I finished changing out my winter wheels for my summer wheels, I decided to investigate a strange problem with my left tail light. Several months ago, I noticed a black/dark marking on the inside of my original (with amber) tail lights (MY2000). While looking inside the clear reverse light chamber of the light I saw this dark mark, about an inch long, and thought it was a deby Dwass - Main Forum
Hey everyone, I 'm a little late to do it, but I just swapped my winter wheels out for my "summers". As I continue to convert my car for warmer weather, I need to figure out how I'm going to store my hardtop. I purchased the hardtop (used), for my 2000 Boxster 2.7, locally last November and it went on and stayed on all winter. I plan to keep the hardtop in storage until this November. I paid for one at full price and they never sent it to me!!!by Dwass - Main Forum
Last year at this exact time I had the same issue and thought the same thing as you!!!!!! I went to the Audi dealer and got the part for about $30. It only took a few minutes to fix it myself. Good as new! You may have some difficulty laying on your back and reaching up under the dash, but it's honestly not that bad. I really had to fix mine because it wasn't allowing the car to fully power it'sby Dwass - Main Forum
Hey Tnert! Thanks so much for the reply. So when it happened, I immediately got the car back up in the air to see what was happening underneath. I pulled the pedal up and then pressed it down again. I could see that fluid at this point was pouring from the trans. I pulled the master slave assembly from the trans and the "ribs" of the boot has dents in them and there were little holes in the rubbby Dwass - Main Forum
Hey Boxterra, Thanks so much for the reply, that's EXACTLY what I want to hear. If it's just that, I'm fine. I am just worried that it might be something worse! I did coat the guide tube with the Optimol MPO as it says to do. I feel like I did everything right. I mean, it wouldn't have come together if it wasn't. My fear is that I'll install a new one and have the same issue. Any advice on geby Dwass - Main Forum
Just finished the RMS, IMS, AOS, and clutch + flywheel replacement on my MY00 2.7. Turns out I'm going to need a new water pump now so I plan to do that with the motor mount next week. Got the car all back together and was ready to test it out, but when I went to press the clutch pedal in, it felt unusually firm just to get it started. I continued to press and then I heard a loud "POP!". The peby Dwass - Main Forum
Thanks for the tip! Glad to hear you had success with it. -Dwassby Dwass - Main Forum
Thanks Pedro! I'm going to see if anyone around here has it! -Dwassby Dwass - Main Forum
What trans fluid do you recommend I use? I know you like Swepco 201, Pedro, but I can't seem to find it anywhere locally (Chicago). Is there anything that I could buy local that's comparable? I have just about everything I need and I might be starting the work this Thursday. Also, I have not used my car for any track or autocross (yet), its primary purpose has mostly been year round driving withby Dwass - Main Forum
Thanks Pedro! Well, I think I'm all set! As soon as the last few parts come in I'll start the work. Thanks again for everything, have a great weekend!!! -Dwassby Dwass - Main Forum
Hey everyone, I hope you're having a great day so far, I've been busy researching and checking over plans for my upcoming project. I realize my last thread is getting buried and rather long to read through. Here is the condensed update. I am about a week away from starting the project on my 2000 2.7 Boxster so I would like to make sure that I am all set with what I'll need. So far, you have allby Dwass - Main Forum
Sorry you had a trouble with yours, hopefully I'll learn something from your experience. I'm going to order a couple extra RMSs just in case (to have a total of 3). I'm going to look into the PVC tomorrow. I like MarcW's idea of putting an end on it so I can square hammer it. My mind is racing with what I need to do and get before I start. Falling asleep has been the current task -Dwassby Dwass - Main Forum
MarcW! Thank you for such a thoughtful and clear reply. I appreciate your input. I found a video of a 986 rebuild on youtube and it showed a guy tapping the RMS in with a rectangular piece working his way around the rim. After that, he used what looked like a cut PVC pipe. Here is the video actually, just found it again: I'd like to find a better video, but this is all I could find right nowby Dwass - Main Forum
Thanks for the advice Pedro, I know you're right on this. I hate to be penny wise and dollar foolish, but this is already adding up fast. The one major deterrent is the need for special tools to do it. The kit costs about $160 for something I will (hopefully) only need once. Also, having to purchase both versions of the IMS is a bit of an annoyance. In the end, I'll likely end up doing it. I woby Dwass - Main Forum
Thanks for the advice Ed(Arizona), I really appreciate everything you've said. I know it seems like the exhaust took me a long time, at 2 days to do it. My delay, in fairness, was attempting to remove and reuse the old hardware. I amazingly got all of it off, but after breaking one of the bolts (over torqued and too rusted), I decided to replace all of it. I was delayed further having to wait toby Dwass - Main Forum
Hey everyone, I hope you're all having a nice weekend! I've been doing some digging over the last week. I found a "self-service" auto shop here in Illinois not too far from Chicago. You can rent a bay out for half or whole day. They have lifts, tools, etc. I'd likely have to bring the specialty/proprietary ones. I called the shop and the owner told me you could rent a mechanic to help with the pby Dwass - Main Forum
Yikes, just seeing that list of parts reminds me of the research I'm going to need to do. Is there a source that you use or know of that sells all of those parts? Also, what does the RMS press tool look like? I wonder how much these additional parts are going to cost, I'm sure I'll still be under dealer and indy costs, but it's still a valid concern.by Dwass - Main Forum
Another question: With the transmission on a roll-out of some kind, would it clear under the car if it's on jack stands?by Dwass - Main Forum
Haha! Neat idea! Are those 2x4s cut to 4" or 5"? Did you have the car on a lift or stands? Thanks for the pic Pedro!by Dwass - Main Forum
Also, How were you able to use an actual lift? I ask because I wish I could take my car somewhere to do the work there, like a "rent-a-shop" with the proper setup.by Dwass - Main Forum
