BTW, SKF have the prior patentin 1976 if you check the citation above but here it is.by tonyd - Main Forum
Mike, Thank you for the summary. Since you have reported on this issue from the beginning and cover so many Porsche Forums, this may be the most authoritative reviews of the Porsche IMSB problem and it's remedies available.by tonyd - Main Forum
There is some new evidence that IM shaft run-out ,leading to excessive shaft vibration is an issue. This vibration over loads the single row OEM bearing way beyond it's design limits. Then it wears,wobbles/vibrates more and fails. You may challenge the source of this info but he has infinitely more data and knowledge than me so I'll listen. The short version is that logically it may favor the useby tonyd - Main Forum
Just put the correct Bosch part number in EBay.Or try the correct Porsche number. Need to be familiar with Interchange #'s . Before you buy, verify with the seller thant the part is correct for your VIN- year model maybe misleading???by tonyd - Main Forum
If you search by Bosch part # - you'll find a new starter motor is only $130.Just be careful with verifying the correct part number .There is some confusion over '05/06 differences.by tonyd - Main Forum
If you read the German marketing for the 4cyl+turbo Porsche engine it is all environmental .Nothing about making a better engine/car. And specifically it is about compliance with future European paranoia about CO2 and litres/km consumption . Doubtless they will just use ceater software to pass Emissions Tests? Next a battery-driven Porsche?by tonyd - Main Forum

I note the anger and profanity in your Post. I am sorry for you. Please seek help. Attributing paranoid motives to people you don't even know is a sure sign you need help.by tonyd - Main Forum
Pedro, No justification for plug pulling. If you noticed another Poster on that Forum was quick to express sceptisism. And his request for details was only partially answered. So the vast majority know you well ,read your stuff, buy your products, enjoy your videos. And just a few of us enjoy debating you on product ideas. Why ? Because you are knowledgeable, polite and just a throughly decent guy.by tonyd - Main Forum
It seems I should not have mentioned Pedros excellent recent video : A member of another Forum claims to have published the 'discovery' of the pressure issue 2 years earlier: Maybe Pedro watches M96 videos on Youtube? I am shocked, totally shocked :-). [986forum.com]by tonyd - Main Forum
If you read the WSJ , the Offical response from VW is that the EPA is doing this to protect the US auto industry. Really. You have to wonder who is advisinng them on P.R. ? Even if VW is correct ,getting into a public spat with the EPA is mad. They are like the IRS.They nailed Capone. Just fess up,cooperate and fix it ? And maybe save the company ? Now every metric by which Govt has oversight (Nby tonyd - Main Forum
Pedro tells us in his excellent videos that one of the causes of failure of the OEM bearing is pressure changes inside the IMS tube. The pressure differential draws oil past the bearing & inside the tube .This invading oil stays inside the tube & eventually becomes acidic and gets purged through leaky IMS bearing seals. This acid attacks the balls and race of the IMSB. With DOF ,the sameby tonyd - Main Forum
Ed, I did, several times and am grateful to you for your contribution. More significantly Jake and Charles have mentioned your expertise :-). Tony Mech.Eng.by tonyd - Main Forum
1."the sellers note that roller bearings generally can only sustain 10% of the thrust that a ball bearing can sustain" Yes, but the specific bearing in this Post is not a regular cylindrical roller bearing.NUP204E will tolerate much more thrust load than 10%.That is the whole point.Search Timken to learn more. Even with this augmented thrust capacity, it is a false solution because of the hugeby tonyd - Main Forum
And after many pages of silly ,abusive, rude, irrelevant posts on the 'other' site, you could have read the facts here in just a few lines :-). And saved a bunch of $$$ also. Thanks for the Forum Pedro.by tonyd - Main Forum
Good question. Here is what they said in essence: 'Our distributor Sales staff asked for this product'. No mention of Engineering.by tonyd - Main Forum
Here are the details:by tonyd - Main Forum
That's why I installed your Technofix DOF kit ! I hope the rest of the diy M96 community gets your message.by tonyd - Main Forum
There is a new product in the Intermediate Shaft Bearing replacement market for the M96 engine. It is offered by RND & SSF. The product development was done by the LN/Flat6 guys.It s a cylindrical roller bearing with thrust control - like the NUP204 E. The T(H)rust control is a 'big deal'. Just wondering if Pedro may add this to his bearing options in Technofix DOF? I ask because the currentby tonyd - Main Forum
I NEVER said vented to atmosphere !!!!!!!!! You did.by tonyd - Main Forum
Actually ,that is exactly what I did. But I can see I chose the wrong Forum.by tonyd - Main Forum
Jm ,thanks for your concern.Monkeying ? I'm Mech Eng.You? The DME will function much better without 'reading' corrupted data caused by the oil contamination in the Intake. Detonation is the eventual consequence because the DME will retard the spark excessively to compensate for the oily mixture. The presence of the oil depresses the effective RON/octane.This is a common problem in forced inductionby tonyd - Main Forum
Actually it does not get burned -it lines the intake manifold and causes well known problems in any engine. Striving to make improvements despite the difficulty seems to be the essence of owning a Porsche . And a great man said:"Expect the best, and accept no substitute". I like that approcah to Porsche upgrades.by tonyd - Main Forum
There is a great write up by Pedro on replacing the AOS There has been a lot of discussion about improving the effectiveness and longevity of the AOS. I don't consider the $1000 "motorsports' part aserious option. One of the affordable enhancements sometimes mentioned is fitting a catch can between the AOS and the inlet manifold. But there is no definitive "This is the Answer" diy proposal thatby tonyd - Main Forum
As a techie, I admire the way the cooling requirement becomes an attractive styling feature. So often cooling requirements are met with gaping holes and chicken wire mesh. That looks so careless. By contrast the photo shows the stylist really embraced the need for air flow . I would love to see if they found space for an engine and gearbox oil cooler in those massive stylish ducts.by tonyd - Main Forum
Is it aluminum ? Or is it main/rod bearing debris? Needs knowledgeable examination to distinguish one from the other. There are many locations in the engine that have steel parts running in aluminum housings/bearings. The camshafts for example. Not a problem if the oil film is maintained perfectly in every bearing but the moment the film collapses .........Not practical to remove the cams to inspby tonyd - Main Forum
If you followed my recent discussion about the critical placment of the horizontal baffle, you may find this link of interest. It is way more expensive than Pedro's product ! No mention of how well this competitor would do at Sebring.I think these guys must have liked Pedro's idea?by tonyd - Main Forum
I "doff" my cap to you, sir :-).by tonyd - Main Forum
Amon I'm a Mech Eng.I have been through the patent process.I am totally rebuilding an M96 now. I know how the part and the tool work. I refered to generic parts for that reason. Using generic parts infringes nobody's intellectual property. This is a discussion about ideas ,not patents.by tonyd - Main Forum
Mike, You misunderstand. I am not developing a product. I am simply asking "why not ?" Fortunately the realities did not deter Feelyx either - if you recall that discussion - and eventually , it was a productive outcome. The engineering is all that interests me. What do you think of the feasibility of a DIY-install-friendly version of the staggered dual row IMSB +/- DOF? The issue is the tool tby tonyd - Main Forum
