As there is also a Java app on a web site somewhere that provides several "likely" radio unlock codes when you input the required Porsche radio model and ID (serial?) number. (I think this is what the folks on the rentech thread use.)by jakeru - Main Forum
They're surprisingly economical from the Porsche dealer, especially compared to what seems to be the going rate for them on eBay. However, if they are not available they will be queued up for a while until HQ in Germany decides to print another batchof them. So if you want a printed hard copy manual, and are not in a hurry, I'd recommend buying new at the dealer. There is also an electronic coby jakeru - Parts for Sale

Receipt confirmed, Larry - springs are here and look great! Thanks.by jakeru - Parts for Sale
I had one of those manual impact drivers, and fully agree it was a great tool. When you need one, there is really no substitute. I figure I must have let someone borrow it who didn't give it back. (The sign of a great and under-appreciated tool.)by jakeru - Main Forum
I paid more attention to what RPMs the droning was happening on my 986. 2200 rpm seems like the peak that happens when cruising (which can sound "droney" ) , and there is another sound peak around 1100 rpm (which I would say can sound "boomy" ). Although the sound pressure seems most pronounced at those two points, it's fairly loud anywhere close to, or in between those points. Above 2200 or bby jakeru - Main Forum
Thanks, interesting stuff. I'll bet our 986 and 981s aren't entirely different, given the rough same overall vehicle dimensions, engine location and configuration (mid-engined boxer 6) and exhaust system termination point (at rear center). So I went ahead and did some calculations using a tuned organ pipe harmonic equation, where I think the drone would be most affected by the presence (or lacby jakeru - Main Forum
Thanks for the clarification on the rear jack point! I'm going to bring this up to my friend at the local Porsche shop. Perhaps I misunderstood his instruction, or he was confused about Boxster's layout versus the 911 style setup. Although he is not an actual tech there, (he's more the service manager/counter guy), as I know he's been racing Porsches for many years (they are mainly a race carby jakeru - Main Forum
I did get a polyurethane puck (called a boxster jack adapter) that has a locating protrusion, specifically for using the floor jack on any of the four factory jack points. And I did find this to be helpful for jacking at the factory points using a hydulic floor jack, without marring or otherwise damaging Aerokit1 side skirts my car has. However, I find additional jacking points besides the fourby jakeru - Main Forum
I can tell already that Porsche owners are a nice, fun crowd! The couple we bought this car from were also great. Here is a side shot, with the top down: I checked on when we bought this car by the way, and it was in November 2014. At the time there were probably at least a dozen 986s advertised on the local craigslist. I just checked what's listed there now, and was surprised to see not evby jakeru - Main Forum
Hey folks, I wanted to talk exhaust noises. My 2001 2.7 Boxster I just got came with these after market mufflers: Although they sound amazing at higher engine speeds, they are pretty loud and "droney" at lower engine speed when under load. Not having the benefit of having tried a stock muffler, I'm not quite certain what to expect, but I think it could be a lot quieter. Does anyone else haby jakeru - Main Forum
Thanks for the warm welcome, Guenter! There's a pic of the lapis blue beauty. The interior is black and grey. Metropol blue top. It has the usual 2001 features, like the 3-spoke steering wheel. Of course it had to have a manual transmission to be a proper sports car (IMO), and we certainly have been enjoying the top down frequently! Love the way the engine sounds when you wind up the RPMsby jakeru - Main Forum
My wife and I picked up our very first Porsche (a beautiful lapis blue, 2001 Boxster 2.7) last winter. Price and availability for convertibles in the Pacific Northwest is really good for buying that time of year, and the prices on these 986 gen Boxsters have just gotten surprisingly reasonable / affordable! (So, I easily could justify this instead of a newer subcompact car I was looking at, whiby jakeru - Main Forum
Larry's us-spec M030 springs are now spoken for. (And Larry, the check's in the mail... nice chatting with you recently!) I understand Larry's M030 shocks/struts with only 40k miles are still available. (I'd probably have snatched them up, if I didn't already have a brand new set of Koni sports sitting here ready to go...)by jakeru - Parts for Sale
