I find myself at more and more autocross events every year. I've had a lot of instructor rides and my wife is a great driver... so I'm pretty sure my skills are improved. I'm now at a place where I usually finish in the top half of similar cars. Recently, my improvement has slowed (or my consistency is better), so now I think my base Boxster is ready for better tires. We own/owned six Porsches over the years. Our most disappointing was a first-gen Cayenne, hands-down. We keep our cars for a long time, but we got rid of that one after a short three years.by Spanky - Main Forum
In addition to our Boxster, we have a 1998 C2S that's all original (except for tires) with only 29k miles on it. That car is driven only about 500 miles per year. The "blue book" valuations indicate that it's worth about $74k, but similar cars that are much less nice than ours are selling into the $90k+ range. Right now, this car is insured along with all of our other vehicles on our regular Lby Spanky - Main Forum
It's a boulevard cruiser. The engine doesn't idle smoothly but off-idle it pulls like a freight train and is smooth as silk. I'm new to these cars... having never considered buying one before this one fell in our lap. My research and our trusted mechanic tells me that these old R107 Benzs are notorious for vacuum leaks and rough idle. Part of me wonders whether that roughness is inherent in tby Spanky - Main Forum
Guys, over the weekend we stumbled across a 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SL. It's red (exactly like the car in the movie "Beverly Hills Cop"), in beautiful condition (although not show quality) and appears to be unmolested to my eye (wife was once a concours judge). It's been a driver's car, but the price was too attractive for us not to buy it. As you know, this model is a hardtop convertible. Theby Spanky - Main Forum
Yep, same thing happened to me (987 Base)... and my indy resolved it with the procedure that Pedro describes. The labor was higher than expected because the recal required the tank to have a specific amount of fuel in it for the reset.by Spanky - Main Forum
Our Porsche indy does not accept the AAA repair program... but our Japanese/American indy does. Although we don't have repair insurance ourselves (LandCruiser doesn't break much), triple-A is the program that he recommends if you're going to purchase one.by Spanky - Main Forum
The bolt that secures the door stop bracket to the body of our 987 is loose. I have now tightened it twice, but it re-loosens with use because I can't get it tight enough. My primary issue is that none of my Torx wrenches seem to fit precisely in the bolt head. I'm looking for some advice about what kind of tool to buy or borrow that best fits the bolt so I can tighten it more securely. I rby Spanky - Main Forum
It was a small crack in the plastic cooling manifold. Coolant was seeping slowly at various amounts on different days and different operating temperatures. The replacement part was hard to find (only found one and it had to be shipped from Canada)... and my mechanic said it was a bear of a job in labor.by Spanky - Main Forum
Car is an '06 base Boxster with 45k miles. My indie replaced the water pump about 2000 miles and four months ago. This morning I get "low coolant" warning message. I'm pretty fastidious about the car and I've never seen any liquids underneath it. I'm thinking I should start by topping-up the coolant and replacing the reservoir cap with a brand new one. I read Pedro's notes about OAT coolant,by Spanky - Main Forum
Yep... I get it too. I grew up in the Appalachian mountains. When it snowed, there was very little clearing of the roadways. Thirty years later, this made my first autocross experience a blast, although my times suffered because I was having so much fun drifting the Boxster through the course on low-grip tires (mounted on the used car by the dealer before I bought it). My real reason for thisby Spanky - Main Forum
I have the same issue, although mine hasn't fallen completely off (yet). One of the two license plate screws is considerably weaker. Last year, I went to the hardware store and bought a slightly larger screw... so far so good; however, I can still see the plate vibrate when the kid or the wife is driving my car on an autocross run.by Spanky - Main Forum
Bruce, I like it. Permission to reuse your "never in fashion, but always in style" tagline?by Spanky - Main Forum
We had a Cayenne for about three years... we were not that impressed with it after we lived with it for a while. We upgraded to a Land Cruiser about two months ago.by Spanky - Main Forum
So, I've had my car for about four years and I've never read the owner's manual or used many of its features. In fact, it's never been driven in the rain, so i've never even used the windshield wipers. The car is a base 987 with the Sports/Chrono package. I have complained mildly that my little car is fun to drive, but doesn't have enough power. At AX, the instructor rode with me on my firsby Spanky - Main Forum
I've had my car for almost four years and never autocrossed. I just did my first autocross this past weekend. What a blast...by Spanky - Main Forum
Thanks for the tips guys. Indie mechanic says the engine vacuum is within spec and AOS does not need replacement at this time. I monitor the oil level (never any consumption between annual oil changes) and watch for the puff of smoke to see if it increases in frequency or quantity. I'm in California. Snow will not be an issue, probably the biggest worry is that the sun will accelerate the desby Spanky - Main Forum
We are reducing the number of vehicles that we own and I'm thinking about making my Boxster into my daily driver. It's an eight year old (2006) base Boxster, heavily optioned with Carrera S wheels, sports chrono, sport seats, short-throw shifter and fancy blue headlights. The car currently is at 41k miles, and it has never driven in the rain. My commute to work is a short eight miles; but oby Spanky - Main Forum
We also have a 1998 C2S. Talk about a big butt...by Spanky - Main Forum
While lowering my top, I heard a thud or a pop. All seemed okay and the top lowered as usual. I drove the car home and left the top down (car stays garaged) for a couple of days. This morning, I drove the car to work. As I park and raise the top, I hear the same (maybe louder) dull pop or thud as the top is about halfway raised. As the top finished approaching the windshield header, the leby Spanky - Main Forum
We have three Porsches and six bicycles in our garage. I can't say that it's cool to share the road with cyclists at that speed differential.by Spanky - Main Forum
We are a pretty manual family too... 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser, 6-speed 1998 911 C2S, 6-speed 2006 Boxster, 5-speed 2006 Cayenne... the only automatic It's all fun and games until we have to drive in California traffic.by Spanky - Main Forum
During my last two refuelings, the fuel gauge in my '06 rises to 7/8 although I have completely filled the tank. At first, I thought I had misjudged the gas pump cutoff, but on a subsequent refueling, I had the same experience. Curiously, my miles-to-empty indicator seems to reset completely... but I don't really know since I never studied the miles-to-empty readout before. Cruising around thby Spanky - Main Forum
That makes me feel better. It was 68F and I had the top down. A loud Harley challenged me from a traffic signal and I couldnt hear the engine. In 2nd gear , the car started to feel fuel- stareved and when I glanced at the tach, it was wound way over. Because I was so focused on driving, i dont know what the revs were, but I know I hit the limiter. Thanks Pedro.by Spanky - Main Forum

I was there, in my Boxster and parked in the Corral. There were probably 70-100 Boxsters in that Boxster Corral alone, including at least two new Spyders.by Spanky - Main Forum
I notice the same thing. I have my Boxster and I have a Toyota FJ. I rarely get acknowledgement from other Boxster drivers... but I always get waves smiles and headlight flashes from other FJ Cruisers. Those FJ owners are a definite clan.by Spanky - Main Forum
