abstract: Our Boxster S has been replaced with a Tesla Model S. discussion: We have had two generations of Boxster S' since 2001. Three years ago, we bought a Tesla Model S. Since then, the Porsche has seen decreasing use. Compared to the Model S, the Porsche just seems like a contraption. Recently, we sold the Porsche and traded in on a new Model S with the latest traffic and safety featuby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
I need to add a quart of oil to our 2003S with 81000 miles. I haven't added oil myself in years, so I looked up what oil to use in the manual. The manual specifies a number of oil grades, but I seem to recall that 0W-40 should be used, whjich is not listed in the manual. So, I contacted the dealer, who has done all of my oil changes. They said that they use Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40. I cannot find thiby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
I am getting the window fixed this week. However, we are now seriously considering a Tesla Model S instead of the Boxster S. My conscience has been bothering me for a long time about generating hydrocarbon emissions, and the Model S seems to be the only practical electric car available. (All others may not even be able to get us to our favorite haunts and back, and the alternatives have little caby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
I am now thinking that I should fix it. Presumably, I will be trading it in on a new vehicle that I will order. I don't think that I am willing to tolerate the defective window, which prevents me from locking the car (since the window must always be open slighly so that I can open and close the door), for the months that it will take for the new car to arrive. Does this seem logical?by kmmcdonald - Main Forum
I was planning to negotiate a tradein (2003 S) and likely order a 2015 S in the nest few days. Much to my surprise, the driver side window just stopped dropping when opening the door. (I now have to lower it slightly myself before opening the door.) The window opens and closes OK when actuating it with the center console button, but it make a new noise when closing. Should I have this fixed befby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
I just briefly spoke on the phone with my Porsche salesperson. If I order a car today, it will be a 2015. There are no changes of which he is aware. So, I'm in no hurry. My previous impression that 2014's could still be ordered was due to another Porsche salesperson telling me a few weeks ago that 2014's would be the available model until mid-June. I agree with Jim about normal aspiration. My oby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
Talking to the Porsche salesperson, there is not much more time to order a 2014 S. He says that the 2015's will be the same, will probably cost 2-4% more, and that my tradein (2003 S) will be worth less if I wait. Is this good advice? thanks Keithby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
We hade decided long ago that when a certain life event was achieved, we would replace our 2003S with a new S. That time has come. We test drove a 2013S, and although the handling and power are easily superior to our 2003S, there are things about the 2013S that we do not care for: 1) The new car implements many gratuitous design accents, such as body creases, lines, and indents where the surfaceby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
Years ago, we bought a Jeep. Our credit union had a program consisting of affiliations with various car dealers, and in this case, we used the program to buy a Jeep with a "no haggle" price, which at the time was indeed a low proce. It was a rare pleasureable auto purchase experience. Now that I am considering buying a 2014 S, I wonder whether our CU's program can work for us again? Any experienby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
We are the original owners, and it was completely rebuit a few years ago. It is more beloved than our Porsche, I'm afraid.by kmmcdonald - Main Forum
I did the search as advised (I have previously performed an ineffective search due to my search terms) and found information about the E6 fuse, but the fuse is fine. Since then, the dealer has diagnosed the problem as a bad ORVR valve, and we are awaiting arrival of the replacement part.by kmmcdonald - Main Forum
I stopped by Costco tonight for gas. I tried two different pumps with the same results: gas could not pump gas into the tank. Instead, the pump sprayed out a hole on its side. I have had trouble before getting the tank completely full at this Costco, but never have I had trouble getting gas into the tank when it was about empty. I would have tried another gas station, but it was late, and my debiby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
JD Power ratings are worth the $1 they pay each respondent. We have a 2003S which we bought new. The engine and transmission were replaced under warranty in separate incidences. The dealer service was excellent, and the car itself has otherwise been somewhat reliable (window regulators require occasional replacement, and the top motors were recently replaced, but I don't hold that against a 10-yby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
We have a 2001 hardtop from our original 2001S. It fits on our current 2003S. We are thinking of replacing the 2003S with a 2014S. Will the 2001S hardtop fit on the 2014S? thanks Keithby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
We currently have a 2003 Boxster S, and a few VW's. As a result, we have become accustomed to pretty good dealer service in the Phoenix area. Porsche North Scottsdale has been literally flawless over the past 10+ years, and the affiliated VW dealer has been following a close behind. In contrast, we used to have a Toyota MR2, and the Toyota dealer service was very poor. Quality of service is sometby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
"Party" is right. It was a pretty hoity-toity affair. Showed up at the 6pm, learned that the tarps covering the cars were to be removed from the cars at 7pm. We had hoped for a seated education about the development and features of the car, but the affair was instead a party. We weren't inclined to stand about for an hour, so we left after a few minutes. Stopped back at the dealer today (Mondaby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
Does anyone have the hardtop rack: How does it work, and how well does it work? thanks Keithby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
We occasionally get a compliment when out in our 2003 S, but we just about always get a comment when we are out and about in our restored 1978 VW Westfalia (with 67 hp of fuel-injected fury). Today, a couple approached us in a parking lot when we were getting into our bus and had the above to say. Best automotive compliment we've ever received.by kmmcdonald - Main Forum
We have a 2003 Boxster S, and we are also the original owners of a 1978 VW Champagne Edition II Westfalia, which we recently had fully restored at Competition Engineering in Phoenix. I must admit, we both love the VW more. The rebuild features are: 1) full repainting 2) full reupholsetering 3) engine rebuild (67 hp of fuel injected fury ... torquey too!) 4) AC converted to modern refrigerant, usby kmmcdonald - Main Forum
