up to 100K miles now. Photo is a candid taken by the local authoritiiesby Tom F. - Main Forum
When I bought the car the original owner said it was used "carefully", so I guess it is likely the rears pads and rotors are original. Marc, parked in the driveway, visually the front and rear pads are equally worn, maybe with an actual measurement I can figure out which set of wear sensors need to be replaced; thanks for reminding me about a brake flush and replacing all the relevant parts. Since I got my 2000 base two and a half years ago at 67K miles I've pretty much just been lurking; nothing like the old days when I was on every day, first thing in the morning on PPBB, deputized to catch the early spammers...but that's another story. My car is approaching 90K miles. The brake wear indicator light is on intermittently. Both front and rear pads look like they are at about 2/32-by Tom F. - Main Forum
As a former PPBB deputy, I'm still around, mostly lurking. My 2000 986 has turned into my daily driver (nothing wrong with that, at all) while the past year has been spent getting my 1990 Vanagon Syncro Westfalia ready for another couple of decades of service: 3.0 liter 212 hp Subaru engine, Porsche 930 axles strong enough to transmit the power, plus Audi A8 brakes to stop the monster and a coby Tom F. - Main Forum
My water pump went at 68000 miles, and the AOS at 68500. From what I read in the past on the board, they both seemed pretty much "on schedule", and I was not concerned that they had happened.by Tom F. - Main Forum
Bought it new when I was a diving instructor, have worn it everyday since then, except for a few trips for $ervice. Wouldn't have it any otherway!by Tom F. - Main Forum
Its about 20 degrees out right now, so I may wait a few days, but lots of good ideas!by Tom F. - Main Forum
Clif, I think you've got some good ideas - in fact I know it. The source of the noise may well be the passenger side "horn", but any info on the cones or adjusting the bolts behind those side panels would be appreciated. Tom F.by Tom F. - Main Forum
The hardtop is a year newer than my car, and I actually looked at three before buying, this one showed the least wear and tear. The noise seems to come from the passenger side front. Its not bad, but it is there. I'm a little unclear on adjusting the spinlocks, but of course there are the adjustment points on either side of the hardtop itself, but I haven't been able to find instructions on adjby Tom F. - Main Forum
A few weeks ago I bought a Craigslist hardtop for my 986, and I love it. This is for a top liner less 2000, and the quiet and heat retention, plus the rear defrost, are great. My question is about fit. The top went on with a bit of work, but there is no windnoise and no leaks during rain or when I wash the car. However, there is enough squeaking when I go over bumps and stuff that a passenger noby Tom F. - Main Forum
Returned last night from an 1100 mile trip from the DC area to Falmouth Maine for a family Thanksgiving. Took my 21 year old son as co-driver, and we had a great time, except for the no-radio issue. We actually had to talk. This was the first relatively long trip in my 2000 2.7, and I really enjoyed it. I recently got a hardtop off Craigslist, and all was quiet and peaceful during the drive. The radio in my 2000 2.7 finally ate its last CD, refuses to turn off . My first inclination is to have it repaired, because its original and has one old fashioned feature I really like: two different knobs for tuning and volume control. The car has the mid-level hi-fi sound option. On the other hand, I could get something from Crutchfield or the like and install it myself, and at the same tiby Tom F. - Main Forum
