I bought a silver one when I de-ambered my car 10 years ago. Can't remember where I got it......by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
Clutch should be fine at 35K. Have you changed the brake fluid and bled the clutch slave cylinder? A screwed up slave cylinder could give similar symptoms.by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
The red clip was good for 10hp on the 986. Some, had the very rare black clip which yielded 15hp.by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
What happened (if yo don't mind my asking)? Ericby Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
Once all the above mentioned is done, you will need to UNPLUG the drain holes on your boxster. Pedro probably has a link to a diagram showing where they are. Parking under trees will eventually clog the drains with leaves. Once the rear drains (around the top compartment) are clogged, the water will rise and run over the firewall and down to the floorboard where, IN AN ACT OF UTTER FREAKING STby Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
I did the tubes yesterday. Took about 3.5 hours but I had a couple of cigar breaks. Had access to a lift and with the rear wheels and rear fender arch little liners off access was pretty good. 5 of 6 were weeping pretty good and number 1 was cracked. Plugs (46K) all looked great and I'm sure they would go 100K but I replaced them "while I was in there". Used snap ring pliers to pull old tubby Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
I had some extra time so I took a failed core (996) alternator from my local indie and had Richardson Alternator rebuild it. This alternator came out of a garage queen turbo. No battery maintainer so the owner would just jump the car and let the alternator charge the battery. This caused the voltage regulator to always run wide open and it burned out. It also had a bad diode. Richardson put iby Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
What type of new coolant did you use? Also, dies the water pump use only a metal gasket or is sealer involved?by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
Once I get this alternator swapped out I'm going to do the plugs/tubes/seals. ANy gotchas on plugs or with a lift is it all right there?by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
QuotePedro (Weston, FL) ... but do you mean CLU (Central Locking Unit)? The immobilizer is just one of the functions of the CLU. Happy Boxstering, Pedro I'm referring to the doofer thingey silver box bolted under the driver seat.by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
Thanks brother. Moved the driver side a full turn. HArd to say how much tension was added - will need to test at speed. Adjustor is hex head (like any bolt) 14mmby Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
2000 986S - get some flapping of the rear top driver side at highway speed - annoying noise. Looked in the Maintenance position for any kind of obvious adjustor - couldn't find one. Is this a known issue? Ericby Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
It took a long time for Boardwalk to conclude it was the immobilizer in my case as well. You could have their shop foreman call the shop foreman Cliff Black at Boardwalk Porsche Plano Texas Ericby Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
My immobilizer failed a few years ago, Boardwalk spent a long time trouble-shooting and eventually replaced the immobilizer. (I had replaced the ignition switch and tried everything I could think of) Later, I think it was Pedro mentioned a known problem with a fuse in the immobilizer (?) Ericby Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
Still staying out of jail still have '00 986S !by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
For a '99 996, does anyone know if the blown E6 fuse applies as it does on the 986? If the fuse is good, next choice would be the solenoid under the fender liner?by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
I put the 996 alternator in a few years ago. Just takes a little wiggling. The idea that a dealer would quote $1500+ for a new alternator is just nuts. Nuts!by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
Thanks Mark. Local dealer tech thinks it is the alternator bushing. I replaced a failed alternator with a used 996 alternator (has a clutch) a few years back. Dealer says a new alternator is priced over $1500 without install! Can you believe that? Anyway, the noise is in its infancy. I'll just run it until it gets loud. With that clutch, I don't have to worry about it seizing and taking thby Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
Noise came back on a full operating temperature motor. Dang. COuld be front motor mount is not isolating normal noise. To be continued......by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
I put both idlers and a new belt in. Problem solved. Interesting that the top idler - the prime suspect - did not feel bad though it did have some discoloration on the outside - perhaps heat generated. Oh well, rule one is go with the simple likely culprits.by Eric in Dallas - Main Forum
Heard some bearing noise from the engine. Upon inspection it is hard to pin it to a particular idler pulley. Pulled belt and spun all - seemed OK. Put belt back on and used screwdriver to listen. Seems top idler is the culprit. If not, I think - maybe - the power steering pump to the right. Checked power steering fluid level - AOK. Only 46K miles. Replaced alternator a few years ago.
