A while back, a big wildfire (nicknamed "the Station fire") closed the Los Angeles Crest highway for about a year, and it only reopened a few months ago. With the new Boxster sitting in the garage, my wife and I decided that we would go and take a look before something else happens. This would be our first time on this road. When we left home, it was sunny and warm, but as we got to the lower reaby Tino - Main Forum
Looks good, thanks for the picture. I am sure it goes very well with the exterior and the cocoa top. Enjoy!by Tino - Main Forum
Congrats and enjoy it! I know the feeling... It's a very striking color; dghii is right, you have to see it "in the flesh" to appreciate it. Any pics of the interior with the wood package?by Tino - Main Forum
Thank you all for the good wishes and comments. From time to time, I'll keep you posted on how it goes with the car. Believe it or not, we've had a couple of rainy days here in the California desert, so not much driving since I started the thread, but I'm already planning some tours up and down the mountains around here and along the coast. Flash if you happen to see me!by Tino - Main Forum
Sorry I missed it, Michael. Had I realized that Boxstoberfest was this weekend, I would have joined you guys after getting our new Boxster in Dallas. Rats!by Tino - Main Forum
Last Thursday afternoon, my wife and I left our home in the Palm Springs area of California and flew to pick up the Boxster that we (I) had bought, sight unseen, in Plano, TX (Boardwalk Porsche). The car turned out to be just as described by the dealer, with all the right equipment we wanted (and more), and we took delivery on Friday morning. Here is the excited new owner after laying eyes on theby Tino - Main Forum
After a week of thinking and looking I believe my wife and I are back in the Boxster ranks, but it was not as easy as I thought. Since I was looking for a used car for my wife, initially our only requirement was that it had to be a PDK, but as we started looking in earnest, a few more things got added to the list of "needs" - bi-xenons, power seats with memory (my wife and I have very differerntby Tino - Main Forum
Looked at the car, but it did not "hit" with my wife, so we are passing on it. She did not like the color (the standard red) with the tan interior ("too traditional")). About 12,000 miles, good apparent condition (did not look in detail), asking about $47K, I am sure negotiable. It was a fairly basic but nice car, with the only serious flaw from my point of view being the lack of bi-xenon lights,by Tino - Main Forum
You are right about the LN replacement, but only for certain cars. I believe the cars with the "upgraded" factory IMS (most of the cars in model years 2006-2008, but not all) can not have the LN bearing installed without disassembling the engine.by Tino - Main Forum
Yes, Dennis. I've dealt with them a couple of times already with the Carrera, once for regular service and once for a clicking noise in the clutch mechanism that turned out to be a major repair. They seem to be very professional, knowledgeable, and thus far from my experience their work is good, if a bit expensive. If you did not make it over here for the summer to test the weather, you did not mby Tino - Main Forum
Thanks, Mike. We will be looking at a base 2009 today at our local dealership. Red with tan interior, 19000 miles.by Tino - Main Forum
After a few years without a Boxster, my wife and I are considering a return to the fold, with a used car. It would be her car, and she says it has to be a PDK. So, that puts it at 2009 or newer. For my peace of mind, it has to be the new engine without IMS, so that prompts a question: Does the base 2009 car have an IMS? I know that this particular engine (non-S) does not have direct injection, buby Tino - Main Forum
You get no sympathy from me. My car read 111 yesterday when I first got in (parked in the shade), and then proceeded to climb to 117 as I drove around. Today it is supposed to be "only" 105 or so...by Tino - Main Forum
It also depends where you are in Italy, and sometimes driving practices change from the city to the autostrada. I lived in Milan for four years, and I remember the drivers on the A4 (East and West from Milan) were quite disciplined. In the middle of town, however, it was a different story. They parked (and double and triple parked) everywhere, darted in and out of traffic lanes, and generally itby Tino - Main Forum
One of my great driving memories is going from Saarbrucken to the outskirts of Manheim in my old 1979 911SC, in light traffic on a Saturday morning, on the A6 (I think). I averaged 125 MPH for the entire run, and was passed by only one car: two blond girls driving another Porsche, a cabriolet with the top down, hair flying in the wind. We were on our way to the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. Thby Tino - Main Forum
When I first moved into the areaI was looking for a shop to service my cars, and in one of my visits, there was an early 911 sitting in one of the bays. The service manager pointed it out to me and told me it belonged to Chad McQueen, and it was the car that was used in the opening sequence of "Le Mans". Unfortunately I did not have a camera with me, so no pictures. Since then, I have seen Chad sby Tino - Main Forum
Welcome back to the desert, Dennis. Enjoy your stay and the break from the winter weather. If you see a seal gray 997 Cab driving around, waive - it might be me.by Tino - Main Forum

Interesting. The visors in my 911 Cab do swing out to the sides, so I guess there must be some difference in the path of the convertible tops as they open and close on the two models. I did notice that in the 911 the two guide slots for the top are built into the same piece that provides the outboard support for the visors, but that should be easy enough to design into the Boxster as well, if Porby Tino - Main Forum
Marc, I feel your pain about the ticket. If it's any consolation, on my move to California I was ticketed by a Texas State Trooper (94 mph in an 80mph zone, a little faster than you, I know) in the middle of nowhere about 150 miles east of El Paso, and I was driving a car with Texas plates. Then, about two weeks after getting a California license, the State "welcomed" me by giving me a ticket forby Tino - Main Forum
Thanks for the post, and for bringing some memories back. I was in Budapest about 12 years ago with my in-laws, who are of Hungarian descent. We looked for and found the old family homes (mother and father-in-law) in some small towns to the east of the city. We drove across Europe from Paris, and it was a great drive. I had the family with me, so I could not take the Porsche, but still enjoyed thby Tino - Main Forum
Hello, Dennis. Let us know when you're in town, and we'll do a few car things. As you know, there are a lot around here.by Tino - Main Forum
