Bobtesa, I enjoyed my '99, (Arctic Silver/Black/Black) bought new, for 14 years. I remember people calling the 2.5 Boxster slow. Well, "slow" and "fast" are relative terms, but I often felt that those who said that needed some practice driving it properly. Of course, once you hit 4K in the '08 S, you are LAUNCHED!by Bob G - Main Forum
According to the Autoweek report, its handling is scary, even for professionals. But sad news, in any case.by Bob G - Main Forum

Mine's #93. Bought it May '12 as a CPO, with my '99 Boxster as a trade-in . A year earlier I had looked at an RS 60 with the charcoal interior, but hesitated; by the time I returned it was gone. Love the car, tho I had a stubborn CEL issue this past summer. Glad it was still on warranty. Everything else about the car has been extremely positive!by Bob G - Main Forum
Thanks, Roger. I wasn't aware of that technique. Did I miss it in the owner's manual? Manuals have become quite a chore to digest, and our modern cars are fiendishly complex! Frankly, I had wondered why my (pre-owned, CPO) car came w/o a red clip.by Bob G - Main Forum
I don't generally double-clutch, but do try to bring up the revs when downshifting for a corner, or when I want compression-braking to control speed on a steep downgrade. Approaching a red light, stop sign, etc., I rarely use anything but the brakes to slow the car.by Bob G - Main Forum
Grant, I agree that double-clutching (done right) is better for the gearbox. But in normal driving it doesn't require the heel-and-toeing you describeby Bob G - Main Forum
although I remember the term, I don't recall its application. Did you set it so your car would return to you?by Bob G - Main Forum
Thanks for the reply, Manny. After 27 years as a member I was aware that "PCA is not funded, owned or run by Porsche. Also that it's not "PCNA customer service." As you know, historically there have been many issues involving Porsche ownership in North America, from 356s delivered to buyers with gearing not really right for our particular driving conditions, to the most recent IMS issues. Hi Meredith, wow, my past is catching up again. Great to hear from you! Sorry to hear about the runaway Volvo, but hope everything else is copacetic. I must concur that the latest Boxster is great, and couldn't recommend it more. (Also agree with Pedro that a drop-top version of the Cayman would be excellent. ) Last year I moved up from my '99 to an '08 Boxster S, the so-called RS 60 Spyder spby Bob G - Main Forum
I blame Porsche too, Pedro. Obviously, you and I disagree on a car club's responsibility to its members. I respect that, but continue to feel that there have been numerous occasions over the past 50-some years when PCA could have been of service to the membership by offering constructive criticism to Porsche AG, but have elected instead to remain an admiration society. Inform the membership? Hby Bob G - Main Forum
It would have been very easy for PCA to survey the membership and gather information on just how many members have encountered the IMS bearing problem. This would have been a great help to the class action plaintiffs' case. But PCA did nothing. And a lot of 9x6 owners are excluded from the settlement, left to pony up big money to repair what should have been designed properly in the first place.by Bob G - Main Forum
Dear Pedro, after the disappointing terms of the IMS Class Action settlement were made public, I was curious what role PCA had played as an advocate for its members who are affected by the issue. It would seem to me that one of the most important functions of an organization like PCA is to go to bat for its membership when something important to many members is on the line. My tech said that he has had to do only two M97 engine rebuilds, and the problem was not caused by IMS bearing failure. But he affirms that if or when bearing replacement is required, the entire engine has to be torn down. Far more difficult than with the M96. Thank you for answering the questions I posed, Pedro.by Bob G - Main Forum
Hi Pedro, I have an 2008 987.1 S, "RS 60 Spyder". Like nearly everyone I am at least wary about the possibility of an IMS bearing failure. I'm aware that the bearing size on the M97 engine precludes easy removal/replacement as is possible on the M96 predecessor. I have had several conversations about this with a Porsche tech whom I respect. He is acquainted with your kit and its task of maintainby Bob G - Main Forum
