Quotekentv1 I'm wondering how people have liked Alcantara. Sorry, if another old topic. It is prone to being soiled and worn looking? Too hot in a hot climate? My 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack came with Alcantara interior. I liked it. Not as slippery as leather. A bit "softer". Like cloth but not like cloth. Don't know how well it will hold up as I traded in the car for a Hellcat which hasby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotekentv1 I'm still needing some guidance here. I found a great Boxster. It's a manual and I like the idea and feel of it. I already have a MY2000 S that I'd sell. But I'm looking at a fantastic 911 S, and comparing it. It would cost $45K more. I'm having trouble with the thought that the spread is enough to fund a good part of a college education. I'm also having trouble with only having oneby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotevza Long story short. Did a bunch of work taking the cams out, replacing solenoid, IMS RMS,Clutch FW..... ran the car w/ lost timing....etc... Then had CEL for misfires, changed the MAF....misfires went over to the other bank. Then...I replaced my weak battery and haven' t thrown a CEL yet. I do however have pendings for misfires. Is it reasonable to say I'm in the clear and solved my probleby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotevza WOW...I replaced my weak battery. Engine ran good...changed coolant and had to rev to 5000 RPMS to 'burp" the engine.....no CEL....NO CEL... Could it have really been the battery!!! Does any one know what the fuel trim should be at idle. I'm using Torque Lite and looking at fuel trim for banks 1 and 2 sensor 1. Mine both read -24% at idle and went toward 0% when revved. Thanks....veryby MarcW - Main Forum
Quoter9i8c7k I have noticed over the years that, occasionally, when I slowly decelerate and hold the clutch down to the floor I get a flicker of "Oil Pressure too Low". It goes away quickly and leaves no error code. I took it to Porsche once and they could not conclude anything. Any ideas? The first thing would be to check the hot idle oil pressure with a reliable accurate oil pressure gauge. Yoby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotevza Well ...now you got me thinking...had no misfires before I changed plugs. Replaced the ngk's that were there with the same ngk which are correct. Pre-gapped to.81mm. Now both Autozone and NGK said they SHOULD be pre-gapped(what ever that means) these are dual electrode plugs and not too sure how to check anyway! Any thoughts? My 2002 Boxster used Beru plugs. I don't recall the number. Tby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotevza Thanks...I did remember getting a code having to do with insufficient heat for the O2's...gona hope for the battery....do you think if I did head damage by running the engine while bank 1 was untimed I would get misfires on bank 2 then flip flop and get them on bank 1....or is this a completely different issue.? In the event there was damage to the head (valves primarily) from running tby MarcW - Main Forum
If the spoiler deploys at the correct speed and retracts at the correct speed the warning light suggests there is a limit switch that is not working right. It may be bad but it could just be a marginal electrical connection. The switch is unable to recognize the spoiler is in this case fully deployed. I no longer have my Boxster reference resources to refer to for the locations of the switches,by MarcW - Main Forum
Quotevza Hmm..would be something if it were just the batt. Yeah they (seller) had to jump the car every time I went to test drive it.and if I don't start it for a few days it'll be dead. Was just holding off so I wouldn't have a new batt sitting in a cold garage for the winter. So your saying the batt can be taxing the alternator therefore not supplying the car w enough voltage. ? I'll buy a new bby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotevza I timed the cams and certain they're good. I had misfires on bank 2 and stalls ......ruff idle, O2 codes then changed the MAF and it all went away BUT now have misfires on Bank 1 INSTEAD of Bank 2 that's what I meant by 'computer's all over the place' finding errors willy nilly. I guess I can check knock sensors...read some where low voltage can cause this as well. My Batt is weak and neby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotevza Thanks for the response...had flashing CEL a while back but went solid. Odd thing I had misfires on Bank 2 with O2 codes and stalling.. replaced MAF.. all misfires O2 and stalling gone Now misfires on Bank 1...computers all over the place. DME? If the misfires are spurious, spurious misfires are not a bad DME symptom. The DME processes a signal from a knock sensor, make that 2 knock seby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotevza Well....Got rid of exhaust leaks,Installed new MAF ...no stalls at start up....no misfires on 4-5 or 6 anymore....no o2 codes. NOW I'm getting misfires on 1-2 and 3 which I never got before.Codes are as follows: P1319 P1313 P1314 P1315 Misfires on 1-2 and 3 Emission relevant. Can I drive to a mechanic or should I flatbed it?? Fuel trim bouncing around Bank 1 -0.8 to -1.6 Bank 2 0.08by MarcW - Main Forum
Well, at least those I'm familiar with -- the Hellcat -- while there is a torque converter the transmission is anything but slushy. The torque converter means that getting the car underway means no slipping of any discs which eliminates any concern about either dry or wet clutch wear, no linkage issues. Once up to some speed there is a clutch system that locks the torque converter so the cranksby MarcW - Main Forum
If you want to stay with Porsche sanctioned tires, those with the N numbering system, you need to go online to the Porsche site and find the options/accessories area and see what tires are recognized by Porsche for the wheel size you have or want to use with your model/MY vehicle. I believe what you'll find is for a 20" wheel while there are a few different tire brands to choose from the sizes wby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotekentv1 I'm being told that a manual is more fun and has better resale value. I'm considering a 718 Boxster or cab 911. I was leaning toward fully manual, as well, but after driving the PDK I did get some sense of a "manual" shift, and some people these days just aren't good at a fully manual shift vehicle. In addition, 95% of the new cars out there are PDK. So, I'm wondering which really wouby MarcW - Main Forum
There are always some in the crowd that parrot something like what you are hearing. When they offer to buy my cars I might listen but until then I ignore them. As others have said you need to decide what you want. The Boxster and a 911 model are quite different cars. Obviously if top down driving is important to you a Boxster is the way to go. While there is a Cab 911 it is not the same as the Bby MarcW - Main Forum
How low is the battery? How do you know the clutch switch is working? One of the signs it is not working is when the key is turned to start the engine the dash lights come on but the engine does not crank. There is a technique to bypassing the switch but I can't recall it from memory. But it might be worth searching for and trying. The RFID in the key you are using might have died. Quotejfaltys Agreed. However, if those voltages are sustained over time, would that imply that Cat on Bank2 is bad? I drove for about 45 minutes, and Bank 1 did not look good until about 15 minutes (I assume when it was hot enough) and then the o2 sensors were consistent to what is seen in the picture. Similarly, bank 2 never really varied from the pattern in the picture for the entire drive. Tby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotejfaltys After reviewing the data more, I believe my post above is incorrect. In the picture B1 looks fine. S1 bank 1 and S2 bank 1 look perfect. S1 bank 2 looks ok, but S2 bank 2 looks like the catalytic converter is not working correctly. Thank you for any feedback. Just a few second's worth of voltage readings is not a lot to go on but with my Boxster the times I viewed the O2 sensor vby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotejfaltys This is very helpful info. I have to add some additional info. I have 3 codes, no pending. P0430, P0410, P1411 I tested the pump/air injection system and found that my hoses are old and the Air pump control/shut off valve is bad. So I have the intake manifold off waiting for those parts. Once I re-assemble, I hope/assume it will get rid of p0410 and p1411. Then I will rerun theby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotejfaltys I know this is an old thread. I am getting p0430. My O2 Sensors pass the the IM test, but getting the po430 code. I have replaced the plug tubes, and AOS because I was getting oil leaks and some smoke, which have now cleared up, but the code still shows. In graphing the o2 sensors voltages, I get wide variations on the pre cat sensors and fairly flat on the post o2 cat sensors. Soby MarcW - Main Forum
If by retaining bolt you mean the small flat head screw that holds the rotor on to the hub when the wheel is removed I never had one of these screws break. To remove a stubborn one -- before you rough the tool bit hole up -- Pedro's suggestion using an impact driver is a good one. Years ago I used one to remove stubborn screws from motorcycle engine cases. When I did my Boxster's brakes I didn'by MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteBoxsterra You said "fuel pump is not unusual" then "failure rate is not high". Those seem to be contradictory. In any case, buying a fuel pump in case that's the problem is a waste of money because your latter statement is true and hence by definition it's a bad bet. You don't have to try everything that could be the problem. In this case it could be the immobilizer (much more common problby MarcW - Main Forum
fuel pump failure has to be considered and eliminated and this includes this case with the OP's car.by MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteIko168 Hi, Yup the car just cranks. Like it doesn’t push thru to starting the car. And yup the tach needle moves just a tadh needle moves just a little towards the end of the cranking just before it stops. I don’t know how better to describe it. Having the car towed this week. Crossing my fingers that its not the fuel pump or anything expensive to replace☹️ Will update. Thanks guys.by MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteIko168 Hi, Nope the car doesn’t start at all. It just cranks then dies. Im having the car towed to the shop but the weather is not cooperating. Its been raining here. Intertropical convergence zone thing that’s bringing in all the rain. Dont know if its the relays, the crank sensor or fuel pump... hopefully the mechanic can diagnose it☹️ Franz Cranks then dies is an odd symptom.by MarcW - Main Forum
Quotemikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC in that most are owned as a second car I'd wager. I'm thinking about putting a deposit down on a EV. 180 miles in the time it takes me to make a pit stop is fine with me. 95% of my trips can be done easily with the 260 mile mid-range Model 3. Not cheap. But once you have driven one, you understand it's fun factor. And it is fun. Beats most Boxsters off the line wby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteIndybox Thanks Marc ... actually, I hadn't looked at the exterior of the pump before it was removed ... just thought it was time (19 years). My main concern was age related ... possibility of small bits of the impeller coming adrift and circulating in the cooling passages. The impeller is quite robust. The only cases I'm aware of where the impeller has been damaged is when some one nurses aby MarcW - Main Forum
In the case of a water pump if there is any leak sign that is of course a sign of trouble and then my advice would be to replace the water pump and T-stat. ASAP. BTW, Porsche techs have told me it is ok for there to be a bit of leak sign at a water pump that the pump is still healthy. The leak sign must consist of just antifreeze residue -- whitish stain -- on the casting and not very big of aby MarcW - Main Forum
...pressure is variable, based on engine torque demand. The amount of pressure is controlled by the DME. There is no clutch. The pump is variable displacement with the displacement adjusted under DME control to cause the pump to produce the pressure desired. The pump defaults to full displacement and thus full oil pressure -- based on oil temperature and engine speed -- unless this is overriddenby MarcW - Main Forum
