Mike, my issue is not with you or any particular source. When you make statements, you tend to reference sources. My issue is that people seem to have taken to typing stuff into Google and then reporting back that "this issue is all over the internet" rather than picking a few credibly looking sources and digging into them. Hence my example about cats look like Der Fuhrer. I am just asking peby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum

Since it is a hybrid, you probably get a $5,000 - $7,000 Federal Tax Credit when you buy one - I am sure that Porsche factored that into the pricing exercise.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
I would like to make a respectful request of fellow Pedro's Board users that we stop using the "I Googled" argument to support our point of view. I certainly value when people post links or pointers to good articles that discuss facts, pros/cons, personal experiences, etc., but I have noticed a disturbing uptick in the number of posters supporting their arguments (whatever they may be) by sayingby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Take the Porsche to the Subaru dealer! I have heard both good and bad about various dealers of all makes - it really comes down to ownership and the attitude the owners take toward customer satisfaction and hiring. Some of the dealers in our region are really fantastic, and others are lousy. I think part of the underlying problem (and I am very aware of this as a business owner myself) is thaby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Engine failures do happen. And yes, all cars catch on fire at one point or another (the first generation Audi R8 had a problem with this, and lots of French cars). This being said, I have never heard of a Porsche catching fire - and I think this is because most Porsche owners are maintenance fanatics. As Pedro noted, an older car will have lots of older parts - and just because your car has loby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum

1) We covered the coolant cap 2) If the heater core is leaking, it should end up on the ground 3) When you say high temps, how high? 4) Have you pulled up the matting in the rear trunk to check if the tank is leaking? 5) It is possible your bleed valve is allowing coolant to escape - if so, the area around the tank should be very wet 6) Low fluid when hot is very unusual - I am almost wondering iby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Somewhere along the past 20 years, laziness became a virtue. All of the things you list can be explained by laziness. 1) Too lazy to make multiple trips or load the car properly. Too lazy to take safer side roads, too lazy to follow the interstate without your help. 2) Too lazy to think and too inconsiderate to care about your safety. 3) Too lazy to think. 4) Too lazy to look at the parkingby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Glad the cap solved it. As for the air pump codes, if the car is running fine I would just clear them and see if they come back. The air pump is just for emissions, so if the car runs fine and passes emissions don't worry about it. As for the bleeder, I am not sure what you mean - do you mean the bleeder valve is stuck open or the little metal handle on the bleeder valve? As for spinning arouby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum

If it doesn't, you might also want to check the lines to the front radiators as well - you can access them through the wheel wells or from the under the car. I just realized that if the thermostat is working, and the lines to the engine are warm and you can't find a leak otherwise, and your cap is new, the only other idea that comes to mind is someone jacked the car improperly and crimped one ofby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum

If you are trying to track down an oil leak, well known Boxster culprits with prior criminal records include: (Note that these are not all near the O2 sensor, but I thought worth sharing based on my experience) - The spark plug tube (relatively common) - Rear Main Seal (relatively common on early 986s) - Air Oil Separator (commonly implicated in smoking, but I suspect replaced more often than nby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
That is excellent advice from Alcantera, and Marc is right about opening the heater core. Another point on the coolant cap - just because it is the most current design does not mean it is not bad. I have replaced this item at least three times - my hypothesis is that once the system overheats and blows through the cap, the pressure valve never works quite the same. Just conjecture. Your symptoms are similar to mine when my O2 sensors went bad - the symptom started out mild, and got progressively worse. I also needed a MAF, but between the two it got sorted out. Sorry about the Bimmer. Did you know if came with a built-in toaster?by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
Don't worry Dan, I'm with you. We got an inch of ice in DC last night. Made for quite a fun drive to the shop this morning to get some things fixed.by Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
It's not your thermostat - if your thermostat stayed closed, the car would overheat dramatically and the level in the tank wouldn't change at all. Is the car leaking coolant except for the overflow? You have a mid-series 986, right? If it is not overheating (190 isn't that hot and could be explained by having debris blocking the radiators), and not leaking coolant when sitting in the garage (eby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum

QuoteAndyInNYC Just got pulled over doing 53 in what turns out to be a 30 (it's 40/45 before and after a curve) in NJ - clearly the officer knew exactly where to camp out. $200 ticket. In NJ I can get it knocked down (once) for unsafe operation and no points. Of course that option is more expensive than simply paying the $200. I think you need to check your O2 sensors. I had the same problems, same codes and it was my O2 sensors (and I needed a new MAF as well, but primarily the O2 sensors). You need to go to a sophisticated independent - they have a tool that can read the actual sensore output ranges through the OBD II port. A bad cat code is generated when the primary and secondary O2 sensors give the computer a bby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum
So, based on watching this video, I take away three things: 1) Worth considering a bearing change when you do a clutch - I seem to remember the part is about $500 bucks, and labor not bad if the clutch is already out 2) Change oil early and often, use a good product and make sure it is properly filled - I will continue to stick with 5,000 mile oil changes and look askance at manuals and TSBs claby Red_Lightnin! - Main Forum

Got a ticket for 76 in a 55 a few months ago in VA. Now, for those folks who don't spend much time in the Commonwealth, 20+ over is an automatic reckless. You don't necessarily lose your license, but an ornery judge can fine you, suspend your license, and even throw you in jail if he thinks you're a tweet-head. And it is quite an insurance hike.
