you'll recall the engine would not rev over 4K and I was getting the P1579 code. I got in the garage this weekend and removed the tranny and here is what I discovered. The head on one of the small bolts that holds the friction surface to the flywheel had broke off. The bolt was then bouncing around inside the bellhousing and bent one of the shutter wheel teeth. That is the tooth that was hittingby Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
I do those speeds on the track and I can tell you the car is floating.by Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
consider that if all vehicles were moving at the exact same speed in the same direction, then never could they encounter one another in a collision. However, a single vehicle doing 40 mph in traffic that is flowing at 65 mph is an accident waiting to happen. The 25mph speed differential makes the slower car seem to be stopped, as many of us probably know from personal experience. Those of us whoby Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
It seems the vendor that I bought the Aasco flywheel from either sent me the wrong unit, or it was damaged in shipping. Either way, here is a pic of the damage it is doing to the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Looks like the shutter wheel teeth are making contact with the sensor. It is gouged pretty good. So out comes the tranny! YEA!by Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
QuoteMarcW I assume you have secured the sensor properly, torqued it down correctly, and thus there can be no mechanical explanation for the sensor's apparent misbehavior? Another common failure point could be the harness, that somehow this got damaged during the engine swap? Long shot I guess, but finding out what is the cause of the symptom is a matter of eliminating what it isn't... Longer sby Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
replaced 3.2 engine in my '02 Boxster S with a used 3.2 from the same model year and just got it running and everything seemed in order during my first test runs. Initially, I was not pushing the engine to make sure everything was connected right and all seemed in order. This weekend I tried to open it up a little bit and discovered that the engine cuts out at about 4000 RPM. It starts spittingby Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum

We all are so into the little things when it comes to our cars, and truth be known, most things are not even noticeable. I've got the clear sides and did the clear third, and even went with the LED rears....and what is sitting in my garage? You guessed it, all the old take-off stuff, just going to waste. I even tried selling it all to no avail. Pretty sad though, when you consider a fellow Boxsteby Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
and it was a car guy's dream. Saw several of my old cars go across; 340 Duster, Mach 1 Mustang and Chevelle SS. Just wish I could have been buying! Love the Bullitt!by Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
I bought a can to refill my system after the engine swap and just thought it was a bit expensive!by Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
If you are doing any DE's or track days, consider this. After two track day events, my last set of Porsche Boxster S rotors were done, with cracks extending over 1/4" from most of the holes. I am considering slotted for this season. I have used those in the past with good stopping power and increased longevity.by Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum

If the impeller was completely gone, I would be more inclined to agree with the diagnosis that the water pump impeller broke apart. Normally when we are talking about water pump failure, we are talking about bearing failure. The bearing in this water pump is perfect. The fact that just the vanes are chewed off is what led me to conclude that the engine bits from the exploding case destroyed the vby Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum

Abigail Jean Pugh was born Oct 21 and she is already helping out in the garage. Since my car has been up on blocks since her birth, it has been difficult to get a Porsche related photo. Finally got one tonight! Me, Abby and Uncle Davy.by Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum

My Accusump is sitting in a box in the garage. Do you know where I can get some pictures of a Boxster installation? LN has a couple of pics, but nothing showing the hole through the firewall. I would love to exchange some photos etc on doing the upgrade.by Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
as the car was running well and not overheating when the engine failed. Even if an impeller on a water pump disintegrated, I expect that the overheating would be much quicker than the time needed to spin a bearing or throw a rod. I tend to think it was oil starvation that caused the problem. I definitely plan to throughly clean the cooling system and have the radiators vatted.by Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
Hello all...I am in the process of installing my new/used engine after throwing the rod in August. I was thinking that I would reuse the water pump from my blown engine as it only had a couple of thousand miles on it. When I removed it, the impeller was chewed completely up. It seems that when the engine blew, metal pieces from the engine case, rods or pistons entered the water channels and destrby Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
I have a hitch that I used to tow a tire trailer. I was able to use a bumper mount type bike rack with this setup using the hitch as the lowest mounting point and then attaching the straps to the trunk lid. Here are some pics on my '05 Boxster. PM me if you want more info. I will be listing it in the classifieds here shortly.by Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
Hello all....you'll recall that when we last visited, I had just blown the engine in my '02 Boxster S at a DE at Road Atlanta. Since then I have acquired a replacement 3.2L engine and have ordered the Improved IMS bearing from LN Engineering. I also got their Oil Pan expansion kit and their AccuSump oiling system. Obviously, I am hoping that these measures decrease any oiling or IMS problems at tby Byron in Atlanta - Main Forum
