Petee - That's exactly how my car felt - like you were driving over rumble strips. I likened it to driving over gravel. Whether your current mount is broken or not, I'll bet if you replace it w/ the 2008 Cayman S. mount (Part number: 987.375.023.03) your car will be beautifully smooth, mine is. BNSC - Same advice for you. Just do it. It's not that difficult or expensive. You can thank me lateby SRG - Main Forum
If you are feeling enough of the 3000 rpm vibration to be annoyed/bothered/concerned about it (as I was) - your motor mount may well be broken (mine was (2001 base). I replaced it w/ the 2008 Cayman S. mount (Part number: 987.375.023.03) Pedro mentioned and the vibes were diminished to the point that unless you actively try to notice them you don't even feel them anymore.by SRG - Main Forum
Sounds like the classic symptoms of a broken front motor mount to me. If you want to confirm it, you can put a jack under the motor (use a spacer/pad) and raise it slowly/gently you'll see the front of the begin to lift w/o lifting the rest of the car. I did this with the car already on jack stands. SRGby SRG - Main Forum
Can someone please post up the part # for the latest greatest Porsche front motor mount for 986 Boxsters? I think I've heard it's a Cayman S part? Is Suncoast the best source? Thanks, SRGby SRG - Main Forum
I actually tried to use it a couple of months ago. I called T R because I had some questions, and placed the order on the phone. I told the guy about wanting to order to go thru Pedro's Borad, but I don't think they could do that over the phone. I suspect many of us like to call and talk to a live person and that may be reducing your numbers.by SRG - Main Forum
Hey Pedro. The hats look good. Any idea how they fit those of us w/ XXL melons? Most "one size fits all" hats don't work for me. If it helps, my helmet size is 60cm. Thanks, SRGby SRG - Main Forum
Talked to the people at the dealership today. RMS leak is covered, so would IMS bearing failure. All covered item subject to $500 deductible. They haven't seen the car yet - so of course they must confirm any problems. I didn't get as far as to ask what their suggested "fixes" would be. I am wondering - depending on what they do - should I put a new clutch in, new or upgraded IMS bearing? We'by SRG - Main Forum
OK, got the car up and had a look. The oil leak is just as Pedro's photos above. Plus a drop hanging from the left side front O2 sensor. Last nights drips total 8 to 10. The CV boots look fine and the rear wheels don't seem to have any excess play anywhere. The front engine mount looked OK, but w/ the car on jackstands I placed a jack under the motor - jacking the jack lifted the motor rightby SRG - Main Forum
Front motor mount was replaced w/ Pedro enthusiast one a few months ago. Could be loose or broken already? Just looking under the car w/o jacking it up - the leak/drip does appear to be coming from the motor-transmition connection on the bell housing. How would RMS leak connect to the clunk? CV boots were fine at last oil change (4k mi. ago). SRGby SRG - Main Forum
I have a 2001 Boxster (base/5 speed) w/ 54k miles. I have 2 issues that have been developing lately. 1) "Clunk" in drivetrain. Hard starts (moving away rapidly from a stop) result in a a clunk sound and slight jerk/interruption of power coming from rear of car. A hard shift (rev to 5 or 6k, shift rapidly, apply heavy throttle) will do the same thing - esp. shifting from first to second or secondby SRG - Main Forum
Hey Carlos, I'll take those swaybars off your hands - I assume they would be bolt ons for my '01 base Boxster. Email me please : sgarstang at cstone.net Thanksby SRG - Main Forum
Bilstien SPORT shocks are typically made for shorter/stiffer spring (than any stock spring). These are the stiffest Bilstiens Bilstien HD shocks are made to work w/ the stock springs, but idealized for the sport (ROW030) springs. These are the "medium" Bilstiens Bilstien COMFORT shocks are made to work best w/ the standard stock springs. These are the softest Bilstiens. At least this was the lby SRG - Main Forum
Just to put out another data point: I put one of Pedro's enthusiast motor mounts in my '01 base Boxster 3 months ago. I bought the car w/ 40k mi. on it and it has 52k on it now. I've had the new mount in the car for 2k mi. When we removed my old mount it was quite broken and probably had been for some time - maybe since I bought the car. The new mount is obviously much stiffer than the old broby SRG - Main Forum
In the past, when working on my cars, I have found it much more convenient to raise/jack the car up by the front or rear rather than one side or the other. For example - changing brake pads and/or rotors is usually done at the front or rear. Jack up whichever end you want to work on, place the jack stands and set to work. Doing this jacking one side at a time involves twice the effort and raisingby SRG - Main Forum
