I agree with you that in a "true" manual mode the car shouldn't do anything other then the driver wants it to do, but the owner's manual tells otherwise, hence my question. On the other hand, it does make sense that the car protects you from unwanted damage by refusing to down-shift when the redline would be surpassed by such action, or by up-shifting when at redline with a floored gas foot, toby joris - Main Forum
I understand that you don't want to test your car's behaviour on the redline. I usually shift at about 4k but I don't think it will harm a well broken-in car with an engine fully at operating temperature to go to the redine occasionally. I will see the service manager in September when I will bring in the car for its 60k (km) service, but I won't urge him to try to fix anything (the car is out oby joris - Main Forum
According to the instruction manual of my 2009 987S with PDK, the gearbox should up-shift when, in manual mode, hitting the rev limiter. Mine didn’t, as I found out the hard way, when I was overtaking on a two-lane road in France (N75). I was unpleasantly surprised by a sudden interruption of power, caused by hitting the rev limiter while driving in manual mode (as I always do). Back at home Iby joris - Main Forum
That was also my impression when I saw the new Boxster at the dealer in Eindhoven, however the specs for both my 987.2 and the new 981 are 150/130 liter!?by joris - Main Forum
The slow cranking plus the fact that it takes only an hour to obtain 75% of charge from a battery tender indicates that your battery is toast. Although batteries often last longer than 6 years, they sometimes die within 3 years. To be sure you could have its capacity tested at a battery store. but I was wondering why the DFI engine is so much different from the conventionally injected engine in this respect. Regards, Jorisby joris - Main Forum
but I rather would see it leave my car as CO2 gas My trips are never shorter than 30 minutes, I always drive in manual mode and keep the revs above 2000 rpm. From time to time I give it Pedro's "Italian tune-up", but nevertheless I always get some soot on the tailpipe, which, admittedly, wipes off easily.by joris - Main Forum
Never observed Leor's tranny problem. The car has been running fine for two years and 42000 km's. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the carbon deposit (soot?) which is visible in the exhaust tips. But that deposit seems to be normal for all DFI engines but maybe not harmless.by joris - Main Forum
The coolant tank of my '99 passed the pressure test at room temperature but sure leaked at operating temp. How old is your coolant tank? The cracks in my tank were at the bottom and only visible with the tank out of the car. HTH, good luck, Jorisby joris - Main Forum
My '09 reads only 3 a 4 kph high at 100 kph. It's an improvement compared with my '99 which was about 7 kph high at the same speed. I hate instruments purposely reading wrong, I know the reasons but to me they are patronizing.by joris - Main Forum

Again I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. I only use it approaching a red light.by joris - Main Forum
I don't know, but my guess is that there is no limit. OTOH I never tried because it wants to see the brake engaged in order to allow you to switch back to D(rive). I don't feel safe coasting at high speed with no instant power available.by joris - Main Forum
QuoteBobtesa There isn’t a neutral of course, and I kind of missed it coming to stops. Pdk will downshift into 1st just before stopping; you can’t push the clutch in and coast to a stop in neutral (from say, 10 mph). I didn’t like that so much, but it is minor. Nice description of the pdk! I have been driving it now for about 1,5 years and really love it. Just one minor correction on yby joris - Main Forum
It is fantastic to see all the regular posters coming out of the dark again! Thanks so much to Pedro and Frogster and all others who made this possible. Regards, Jorisby joris - Main Forum
