thank you for sharing what you know. i’ve heard many people pleased with your repair.by SMILIN - Main Forum
thanks Pedro. another round of bedding resulted in the expected wear pattern (consistent). now i can focus my energy on polishing and orienting the center caps, repainted the lug nuts, and touching up the calipers near the bleeders where the brake fluid near-immediately turned my paint to goo.by SMILIN - Main Forum
new sebro rotors and stock pads front and rear. driven 50-100 miles and have bedded them. everything feels good. what's with the strange 3/4" "line" in the center of the braking surface? same on both fronts. it seems perfectly aligned under the metal post but there is a big gap between it and the rotor. non-existent on the rear. anything to check or be concerned about, or drive it longerby SMILIN - Main Forum

Slooooow progress. I ran out of motivation to do the full list at this time. Got the brakes back together and have given her a drive. SO NICE to be driving her again after many weeks on jack stands. Another item to add to the list: polish the center cap and get it pointed to the valve stem!by SMILIN - Main Forum
Slow progress due to many other activities and projects, but progress. The caliper painting came out much better than I expected. One decal is placed a little high and the wet coat is a little light in a few less-obvious spots, but all in all, I'm pleased. I should have the brakes reassembled and bled in the next couple of days.by SMILIN - Main Forum
I sure appreciate your opinions. I'm keeping this car forever, so I'm not trying to please anyone else (esp a future buyer). After a good night sleep and a brisk walk, I'm back to leaning to black. My thoughts..."Aluminum" is too different from the Arctic Silver, but not different enough. The gunmetal is too different from the wheel centers, but not different enough. I spent a lot of time cleaning/prepping calipers today. So much time (and not done) that I don't want to end up with a ho-hum result. I'm second-thinking painting them black. I probably won't paint my wheel centers dark blue metallic. They're in good shape and I've got plenty of other things to do. My car/wheels look like this: I don't want red, yellow or orange. And I don't want theby SMILIN - Main Forum

for me, it just comes down to a matter of trust and "fit." if you trust the shop, i wouldn't blink at the extra charges. if you don't, move on, and try to find a shop that you trust and like the way they do business.by SMILIN - Main Forum
congrats! i’ve done it twice and swear i’ll pay someone next time. no fun! now it’s time for you to drive around a while...wondering WHEN the smoke will stop.by SMILIN - Main Forum

The miles on my 986 will accumulate slowly from this point forward, as my wife has officially announced that every other car we own is more comfortable than the 986. I believe my mistake was having US M030 springs installed with my strut refresh. They are firm (she dislikes) and the stock ride height is...well...less good looking than my prior/tired H&R.by SMILIN - Main Forum
Thanks Guenter. She really is in nice shape, including the interior and mechanical. When I'm feeling motivated, I'm going to put her up on jack stands and do a little mileage/age-based maintenance. Then I'm going to put her up for sale. My wife "recommends" that if I NEED to get the GTS 4.0, one of the other Boxsters needs to go. So I told her I'd put it up for sale.
