and have about 1k miles on them. Nothing particular to complain about, I'd rather have the Ribs but they don't make em any more. Normal cruising. Though there is one thing, I think I threw the car at corners a bit differently when I had the Ribs because they were bought for $75...yep bought set of takeoffs already mounted and sold my rims and tires for only $75 less than I paid the dealer for thby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

I varies in specificity by the type of signal they are trying to analyze in the ECU and in the number of causes that such a code can point to because, as your mechanic says, they list several things and I do the most obvious and it seems to fix the problem but some codes are only learned by repeated drives of the car and you don't want to pay your mechanic for accumulating the required number ofby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
There are at least 3 suppliers of the water pump. I'm known for using OEM and not Porsche parts. In this case, it will have to be a Porsche part.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

'01S TIP bought at 42k miles and did the 60k plus and brakes just to give myself a baseline on where the maintenance situation was. Now at 58k and 5 years later (hey, I have other interests and only put 2-3k miles/year on the other cars which do hold the grandkids...I have my priorities straight) I'm ready for another major service...this time the 90k. as it sounds too good to be true. So I looked up my last quote from Warranty Direct (I have my last 5k emails.). This was in 2008 and was on a '01 S so it was 6-7 years old at the time. Their quote was slightly above $3,800 for 13 months coverage and the two plans they offered were only $50 different in price. So when I look at you quote and the length of the coverage and figure the two companiby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

when you buy an uncommon car and live in a place that doesn't have a lot of service resources. So I'm finally gonna get a major service done (been 5 years) and while I'm at it I want the water pump replaced and the AOS replaced. The car is 10 years old. ..nothing wrong...just want it done...plastic parts. So I call my local P-car dealer for a quote. Ought to be pretty simple, right. I have such a fund. And of course the IMS-less engine is not without its problems. I could show you a UK site with some horror pictures... I was just looking at a 280Z today that had a 406 Chevy small block in it. Lighter than the original engine with 400 HP. Friend was building it. 6 months work on the body (cut off the hardtop, roll-bar, vette looking rear end, Ferrari red...wow), 6 months wby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
If you look at this site you'll see a typical table of codes and their meanings. Those codes are readable by all 4 levels of readers. And if you post a P code here you'll probably get some insight from someone giving a list of probable causes or even a diagnostic approach. See if you'd understand them and then think if you'd rather risk swapping a $150 part and being wrong versus paying a dealeby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
The commonly mentioned one is Warranty Direct. Not without problems, none of the companies are. Or pay the same amount in repair costs to address the common problems up front. Improves the car, provides increased peace of mind, but no insurance because stuff does happen. Or put the same amount into a special savings account to pay for the bills you may have. Not the same as insurance but a cushby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

they can be useful. But not all of us are. I'm not and have successfully saved $ on an O2 sensor problem without going to that level of detail. If you think you will get to that level, then consider buying the Durametric s/w which requires a Windows laptop but which gives you the most specific Porsche data available short of dealer level tools. The tool displays basic 2-4 word descriptions along with the codes. For the Porsche, lists of the codes are available and many forum posters will post more than just a one line description including probable causes so you can always look through the online forums using "search". I buy some Novus #2 and #1. #2 is a slightly abrasive compound and will take the haze off the window. #1 is just a plastic cleaner. 2 times a year for the last 5 years after it looked like heck before. Also seems to make the plastic more flexible. Or find a canvas shop and sew some replacement plastic in in place of the existing. my wife said to me "why don't you quit looking at the classifieds and just go buy one". So I shopped for all sorts of other sports cars (my prior 914 experience was not a happy one, I sold it 3 days before the warranty ran out for a reason. It had a parking spot at the dealers with my name on it.). Jag, 928, 'vette, S2000, BMW. Never really thought about a 911. Just what makes the dealer say that other than his boat needs some gas? Where do you live and what kind of emissions test does your area have? Has the car flunked an emissions test (codes read only or actual exhaust tested)? Was the car well warmed up when tested? If there are codes, are they specific to one side of the exhaust or both? To need 2 at the same time is unusual at best. (One of miby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
