And to be clear, I was suggesting that he swap a used Tip not rebuild it. the guy in Norwalk, who I have also used BTW, is the rebuilder. In any event, I just finished my last project car and I am thinking of a next project. Email me at jmorgan (at) pmpalawyer (dot) comby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

Call Tom at Long Ridge Service in Stamford, CT. Phone --- 203- three-two-two, three - nine - zero - zero. It might be a little off the beaten path, but he has transplanted tranny's in cars for me for less than that quote. Tell him his lawyer sent you. He knows my 986 a little. He is currently working on my toy BMW and soon a DD BMW. If he can find a less expensive solution, he will. Theby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
At the time I bought my Boxster (2000), I could have purchased a Camaro or Mustang for less than half the price I paid for the Porsche. If anything, I think the spread between Porsche prices and average vehicle prices has shrunk. My wife's DD Jeep was roughly $60K and it was close to a base model. Many other SUV's were in the 70's or more. Regular folks are driving those things at those pricesby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

But I suspect the failure point is the plastic guides. I further suspect their life spans vary greatly based upon heat cycles and oil change intervals among a number of other things. it is possible to replace the tensioners in situ, but not for the faint of heart.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Is it "clean"? As I understand it, the cleanliness is acheived by taking CO2 out of the air for fuel, which is later replaced after combustion. (I may be incorrect on the exact science - please correct me if I state something incorrectly.) So the plant to vehicle portion of the cycle is a net neutral. The issue is getting the energy to manufacture the e-fuel. They are theoretically using 100by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
1) where do we get the electric from? Currently not from renewables for the most part. Until we do that, we are only substituting one fossil fuel consumer for another. 2) where do we get the lithium from with which to make batteries? Currently China is the primary source. Problem 1. They are initiating multiple environmental catastrophes mining the suff. Problem 2. What is the political fuby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Only a fool denies science. Something needs to be done. We can all argue about what and how, but the underlying fact remains. It is equally obvious that the world needs an "a-ha!" moment on energy. We invented the light bulb, the airplane and the space shuttle - we can do this. Necessity has always been the mother of invention. Energy will be no different. That said, electric as we know itby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I wonder to what extent the 4 cylinder conversion impacted sales. Talk about bad press. Almost feels like the very early 90's with those kinds of numbers. I also wonder whether we will see any new advancement in the ICE units or whether they will be treated as end of life while all development goes to battery operated stuff. SUV's never made much sense to me. But if they sell, they sell. Unby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I have heard that automatic locking is to prevent carjacking. I doubt the lock is going to protect passengers if there is an impact if the latch does not do it. The lock is less robust than the main latch. It would add to crash worthiness only minnimally. I am with the Germans. If there is a crash and I need to get out, the last thing I want is any impediment to do that. I routinely have theby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I seem to recall there is a set time after the trunk is opened after which the doors are locked.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The ECU is reset pretty much any time the battery is disconnected for any period of time and any time the codes are cleared. There is a driving cycle that must be performed to reset all parameters. I have looked at the parameters due to requiring an emissions test. My car reset fully after 20 minutes of driving, YMMV. You will note that the car starts roughly the first time out, but is fine aby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Originally, I never did it as I was not taught to do it. I suspect that was largely because filters on my early cars were mounted horizontally. (Cannot pre-fill that.) Then, I tried to do it because I was guilted into it by folks like those on the board. Upon further consideration, I do not do it any more. The engine is not empty of motor oil, the bearings are lubed. On most cars, the oilby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
QuoteBoxsterra We can all coexist peacefully I am not sure we can. The states are beginning the process to outlaw our cars. California is the most public, but various states have floated proposals. The fuel companies have taken notice. There will be very real fallout in the next 20 or so years. There is genuine antagonism already and I really think a lot of what is being discussed is ill coby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
cars are going for STUPID high prices. I sold an SUV for 3X the book price. I agree that 207K is a LOT of miles, but with a good service history, you might have a shot in this market. Good luck.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
We got stuck. Tried to create a pin. Ultimately had to send Rich out for paper clips. UGH.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I have that stuff and use it to prelube long dormant parts. So far - so good. I put it in my barn find e30 and various parts - including a used head. I let it sit for a while, then drained/cleaned. it seemed to help? I know folks who swear by it, not sure I would go that far.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Any code reader - even a $20 HF, walmart or autozone will clear most codes. Most will give you the obvious fault readings too. You will not likely get freeze frame or real time data though. But it sounds like you do not need that. My local AZone will read and clear codes for free. But there is often a wait for a tech. If you have the radio codes, you can also disconnect the battery for 10 miby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The issue might be getting the top shipped if you are in an apartment or similar. I had to have shipped to a commercial address.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I have done that job a couple times. It is a bolt in swap if you have an 03-04 top and want to install on a 2002 or prior model. Muarice's excellent instructions are available. I think I post them on this board. But they are certainly on the net if you look. For a professional shop, there is no excuse for it taking all day - or even half a day. None. I cannot answer on parts and shipping.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Maybe not. All dealers have few, if any, cars to sell. With your stated model, there may not be any allocation at all - so anything coming in has been sold some time ago. Further, the dealers might be precluded by contract from selling above MSRP. I have heard stories (true?) of dealers selling to each other at MSRP then selling the technically pre-owned cars at massive overages. If that isby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The struts on the front hood deteriorated over time. The hood would often shut on me while doing maintenance or emptying the frunk. It was worse in the winter. So, as I was on the Pelican site for something else, I added the front hood struts to the list. They were not much, and they were very easy to install. Now the hood stays propped up indefinitely as needed. I very simple project, but oby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Lost time is not the same as the loss of life or even the loss of money. But I take your point. There are a lot of dreams on that boat too. Hopefully, many of the cars will be unharmed or easily salvageable.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

That is the site. I thought you might be out of the Boxster game since my links to Bombay digital no longer work. Have you saved your instructions someplace? Your brake job instructions were the best I have ever seen BTW.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The talk is that everyone will charge at home at night. Really? There are places with brown outs during the summers due to AC usage. Are we going to add cars to the grid too? In my house, we currently have 4 drivers. I am certain, my home could not plausibly charge all four cars if they were electric. I doubt whether the neighborhood grid could support it either. I have a LOT of concerns aboby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I did this swap early in COVID. 2000 t0 2003. Maurice did a great write up. You should be able to find it in google. Search Maurice, Boxster, convertible top upgrade or similar. If you pop the socket arms off, there is no reason to mark anything. But buy the sockets in advance. They often break and if you need to replace one, you had better have one on hand. And yes, you must mark or measby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
