Expensive puddle too.... (long)
Pedro (Odessa, FL) - Saturday, 1 December, 2012, at 9:35:51 pm
... I've been in Orlando for the past 3 days attending the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Tradeshow.
When I arrived on Wednesday the car developed a weird noise which I thought could be the water pump.
Since I had some tools with me I decided to open the firewall to see if I could pinpoint the noise.
But, by the time I got the firewall access panel off the noise had quieted down.
I checked for signs of coolant leakage but found everything dry.
I assembled everything, went to the last day of the show and at 3:00 PM decided to go home.
About 20 minutes into the trip I saw the coolant light start to blink and l knew the pump had finally failed.
I called my Insurance company and was told that my Roadside Assistance paid for the first 60 miles.
I was about 260 miles from home, so at $5.50/mile ... You do the math.
Then I remembered that my buddy Mike from TuneRS would b returning back from the show later in the day.
He has a Mercedes Benz cargo van and had picked up some euipment a the show.
So I called him and he agreed to first swing by a U-Haul rental place and pick up a car trailer.
Then he picked me and my car up and we are now driving back to SoFla.
As you can clearly see from the length of this post, I have nothing else to do.
So the puddle I left by the side of the Turnpike, although not as expensive as it first appeared it'll still set me back some.
It could have been worse.
I know Carlos knows the feeling winking smiley

But, glad that you managed to hitch a ride to reduce you cost. At least it didn't happen on some NC mountain road like to some ex-royalty.
And, even better, you're on really good terms with an excellent mechanic in SoFlo. You probably have his number. cool smiley

About that puddle you left...I hope you made sure it drained off the road so no poor fool drove through it and tore up the underside of his car smiling smiley

WOW....bad luck but a decent recovery.

Didn't I leave you some Porsche coolant?

I don't use no stinkin' coolant...

... I use Water Wetter for three reasons:
1.- It cools the car better than coolant
2.- We don't get hard freezes in SoFla so no antifreeze is needed
3.- Some track events do not allow coolant to be used in the cooling system

You have dry water in Florida? Then you have to add this stuff to make the water wetter? Wow! I wonder how much of this stuff it took to create all those wet water lakes in Florida.

Pedro
How long have you been using water wetter? Any adverse effects like scaling, reduced water pump life?

I've been using it for several years.
Water Wetter is actually a coolant without antifreeze (ethelyne glycol).
There's no scaling or anything adverse internally because I use distilled water a the main agent.
