I've got the Porsche trickle charger that I bought 5 + years ago and until this AM it had worked without issue. When I checked on the condition of the car today--just looking at the indicator lights-- the "motorcycle" setting was amber as was the charge level. I check the battery and an indicated 12.2 v was displayed on the battery level. Pressing the button did nothing, couldn't even turn it offby MikenOH - Main Forum
QuoteMarcW I don't think I really have that much to offer any more. My Boxster is a 2002 model and my automotive service/repair experience is even in the more distant past. And absent any Porsche/Boxster experience going forward I'd fill in the gaps with Challenger/JCW stuff and as anxious as you are to see me stay you would be even more anxious to see me leave after reading me going on and on aby MikenOH - Main Forum
QuoteBarryL Based on my engine number per my indy....This opens up possibilities for the IMS bearing replacement. Since I have 175K miles on the existing engine and bearing, looks like we did pretty good to get this far and since we are getting a replacement or rebuilt transmission, I can go ahead with replacing the IMS bearing. So, it's a rebuilt 2002 motor--not one out of a 2006 car. You didby MikenOH - Main Forum
I will miss your stories about the Boxster, but as you said, it was time to move on. What's the new owner plan to do with it? Spec racer, perhaps?by MikenOH - Main Forum
QuoteBarryL My indy put a used transmission in and was not happy with it and let me know they would be working with their supplier to get another unit and that the supplier might send it out for a rebuild. My indy inspected the IMS (2006 replacement engine with larger bearing) and from what he could tell, looked okay, no leaking or areas looking like a problem. However, we discussed whether itby MikenOH - Main Forum
For the $, these cars have performance in spades, as well as being comfortable. When you mention "another Porsche", which one are you thinking about?by MikenOH - Main Forum
Barry--did you have any issues getting the '06' motor to work in your '02' MY car? ECU change out?by MikenOH - Main Forum
QuoteRoger987 A blown engine from an IMS bearing failure would cost you easily 3 to 7 times that amount, depending whether the replacement was new, or tired. So... think of it this way - you have $10k left over for Xmas. db997s recently paid $8k for a tune-up, oil, brakes, and tires. And the dealer didn't even buy him dinner/wine first. Quotemikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC Typical Tesla. Want you to wait several years for an unknown quality car. Help finance the company with your deposit. If they can't even crank out 1000 Model 3s a month (a relatively simple car) or get their electronic nannies working on their current $100k cars, do you think the effort to produce the truck and roadster will contribute to the company's longeviby MikenOH - Main Forum
The "other " Porsche dealer in the region said no problem to rescheduling so next week it is. They were uncertain if I my request for a GT4 loaner would be possible . I recall Chevy having issues with the new C7 when it was being shipped in 2013/2014 from KY during winter production, since many cars came with MSSZP tires and they sat in below freezing temps for long periods of time. Guenter--thanks for the reply. i'm ok with driving on these tires with temps in the 30's--as long as I don't make any sudden moves--but the temps forecasted that day were even lower. No good reason to push the envelope if I don't have to. After looking at the forecast, I decided to rebook the following week--which hopefully won't be an issue. I shouldn't have waited this long, but the weather inby MikenOH - Main Forum
The weather around here has been pretty moderate until a cold front went through last night and the temps have started to drop. Unfortunately, I made an appointment last week to get the oil changed this Friday before I lay it up. The forecast is overnight lows 21 deg. high temp 33 deg.; the dealer is 50 miles away. Looking at the Conti website, they said this about how the tire reacts to cold teby MikenOH - Main Forum
Rear tires wore even, except the outer groove--on both rear tires; seemed odd since I had a lot of negative rear camber on the alignment which should have put the wear on the inside portion of the tire. I went up to the dealer and measured the grove depth on a new car's equipped with PZero tires with a tire gauge. The outside groves did have less depth than the other three when brand new. This past weekend was perfect for driving with the top down locally also, but from the forecasts, probably the last time for this year. The colors in the last pic are brilliant as you'd expect for the fall, but on this side of the lake the colors seem more subdued, I think due to the lack of rain we had for most of September and October.by MikenOH - Main Forum
A few more HP along with PASM, Alcantera, 20" rims, locking Diff , PTV and other things including the sport exhaust. $81.9K for the Box variant; a bit less for the Cayman.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Congratulations and best of luck with your "new" car. You'll find these cars great fun to drive and if maintaned properly, will provide many miles of reliable transportation. Regarding the radio, there should be a number of viable replacements by now. I'm thinking you should be able to stream Spotify or Pandora with one of those add-on bluetooth devices that connect into the aux. conector.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Quoteboxsterd I thought the reason to use a 0W instead of 5W is because most of the wear on an engine occurs when you start it up from cold and 0W provides better protection in cold. If you're parking the car outside and starting the car in sub-freezing temps I think that makes sense. Having said that, we store the car in the winter and I doubt it's ever been started in temps below 40F.by MikenOH - Main Forum
The Indy that I've been using swears by either, both are A40 approved and have good reviews on the oil forums. The engine uses very little oil between changes--usually at 5K--and doesn't smoke at startup.by MikenOH - Main Forum

The Penske dealership near Cleveland sent out an email about "big" discounts on 2017 models, one of which was a Cayman S model. Gorgeous car--white/grey or blue interior, 20" wheels, PDK and a lot of other stuff with a sticker of $88k knocked down to $84K. Not exactly blowing them out the door, as they say. As nice as the 718 CS is supposed to be, $80K+ for a 1 year old model seems pretty dearby MikenOH - Main Forum
QuoteMarcW Time for the Boxster's 315K mile oil/filter service. Brake wear warning light has been coming on now every once in a while for a while. Dropped the car off this AM and asked the brakes be done. The front brakes. These were done at around 276K miles -- SM looked it up for me on the service department computer -- so that works out to around 51K miles of brake life. For the oil/filter seby MikenOH - Main Forum
Nice video and comparison between the 2 cars. 1.5 seconds difference between the two cars, but one was on real street tires (718S). OTOH the 718 had a PDK, probably worth 1.5/2.0 seconds per lap. I guess a PDK equipped 718S running Cup 2 tires will be very competitive with the GT4. Went back and looked at the pricing on the video and the 718S had a sticker of roughly $95K--similar to what theby MikenOH - Main Forum
There are some decent track day/street tires out there that provide grip and the steering response you want, but in 20" sizes they are hard to find, expensive and heavy. If you are serious about doing a number of track days I'd suggest moving to a second set of rims (18" or 19") and go with some like the RE-11 or RE 71. You can drive them to the track and on the track and are good in the rain. Thby MikenOH - Main Forum
Not cheap, but very sticky. The Conti Extreme Sport are less expensive but don't have the same dry stick. Not that I'm biased but you got a great car. They do sell a X73 suspension kit which I'd recommend for track duty==IIRC, suncoast sells it for about $1400(struts/springs and sway bars)by MikenOH - Main Forum
331 Box/Cay sales in a month when historically they have sold in much higher numbers in NA--not good. The trend seems pretty clear now that the 718 has been out for a year--for some reason (sound/price/down turn in sports car sales/?) sales for this model and market segment have tanked, making Porsche even more dependent on sales of SUV's & sedans. The 911 sales drop seems even more significby MikenOH - Main Forum
