Seems to be a bit of a waste of a perfectly good car.by SRG - Main Forum
It's not very hard to pull the access cover behind the seats and have a look. If it's the WP check for drips under. The AOS can make interesting noises. Unless it sounded bad and or loud, I'd drive it the 30mi.by SRG - Main Forum
Using CR for advice on cars is like asking PETA to help pick your horses at the track.by SRG - Main Forum
The facts do not state otherwise. The number of cars traveling at that speed would be a tiny fraction of 1%. Do your statistics isolate those and determine what their crash rate is? I've been on the autobahn too. The first time was in 1972. I understand that there are only certain unlimited areas, the road is very good and that the drivers on them are generally quite good as well. All that beingby SRG - Main Forum
I'm sure it's a great car and an excellent driver and all perfectly legal ... But doing that on a public road is just stupid.by SRG - Main Forum
Thanks for your help Kevin. I'm OK w/ nuts and bolts but electrical troubleshooting is not something I'm good at. Not being able to get the seat heat to work would negate one of the main reasons for the switch as my current drivers side is not working. That, and a bit of wear on that seat are the only thing wrong w/ the seats in the car. So I did not buy the Cayman seats.by SRG - Main Forum
I don't know diddly about a MOST bus (is that the city blue line?) so now I'm not so sure about attempting the swap. Anyone else got any experience/knowledge on this?by SRG - Main Forum
Thanks Kevin. I was reading it while you posted the link. So it seems the 987 seats are a bolt in, but not a plug in. The article author is swapping full power seats. He and others have made them work. My seat swap would be switching manual (recline power only) heated for manual (recline power only) heated so there's only 2 things to get working. I think it can be done w/o too much trouble, butby SRG - Main Forum
Thanks for the reply Kevin, but I'm not seeing the link. I'll try a search.by SRG - Main Forum
Anyone know if a set of manual standard heated seats from an '07 Cayman are a direct bolt/plug in for an '01 Boxster w/ standard manual heated seats? Thanks.by SRG - Main Forum
As I said there is nothing wrong/illegal/fraudulent/immoral about this. It's your right to do so. Our '01BMW 32xi wagon (5 speed unicorn) was backed into while parked. Broken headlight, minor damage to fender and hood. Body shop A (large operation in town/known to be pricey/do plenty of insurance claims) quotes over $5k including new headlight (@$1200), new hood, new fender. They happily send thby SRG - Main Forum
3 words - call insurance company. This is why you have insurance. Let them deal w/ it. Bumper covers are repaiable to a point and are easy to replace if damaged beyond repair. Find out through your local car/Porsche guys who the best local body shops are. Chances are you can get it fixed properly for less than the insurance payout. Top tip - take it to the most expensive body shop around, sendby SRG - Main Forum
My AOS failing didn't cause noticable smoking either. I think the cracked hoses were sucking in air making the noise. I was sure at the time my AC compressor or it's pulley was the problem. All I'm saying is, in my case, there was allot of squealing going on and it was the AOS. Please keep us posted when you find your problem. Good luck.by SRG - Main Forum
Water pumps are a well known failure point on lots of cars. Boxsters included. Mine went at 70k miles, the plastic impeller fell apart. I don't think your squealing issue is the starter. I think it's your AOS - another well known Boxster failure point. When mine failed (cracks in the hoses) it made lots of crazy squealing sounds.by SRG - Main Forum

I had a failing AOS make all kinds of squealing noises. I bet that's what you are hearing. If you can get to it, look at the corragated hoses coming off the AOS for cracked/broken/loose hoses. You may also see a tell tale oil leak there (or on the ground under it).by SRG - Main Forum
Looks great, but they put your steering wheel on upside down. Maybe it's the southern hemisphere one, but then wuld it be on the other side?by SRG - Main Forum
First - Sure the Boxster can be a daily driver. That's part of what makes it a Porsche. Second - Replace your air-oil separator now.by SRG - Main Forum
Something I'd never thought I'd see - a Mini Moke racer. On the right of your "paddock" pic. Lambo doors? We don't need no stinking doors!by SRG - Main Forum
Also note how the even more underpowered Atom thumps the Mclaren and the Bugatti w/ the Stig driving them at the fairly open Top Gear track - ugly areo and all. Small, light and quick is always better than big, fat and fast. Lotus and Porsche have been perfect examples of this in the past. I like the "gaint killer" aspect of them both.by SRG - Main Forum
If you are not familar w/ the evolution (or lack thereof) of the Caterham 7's, you need to turn in your "Sportscar Guy" card. Once you have completed the courses British Sportscars of the 50's and Adding Lightness by Coiln Chapman your card will be reinstated. This is an attempt at humor, but seriously, no one was using a wind tunnel (for cars like these) in the early 50's. There is the Lotus 11by SRG - Main Forum
Dianostic error/Promlem fixed: The chirping and screeching was not the AC pulley at all or any other pulley or part of the belt system. Sure sounded like that kind of thing though. The actual noisemaker was the Air/Oil Seperator. This has now been replaced and all symtoms are gone. A couple of tips for anyone replacing the AOS - Get the "preloaded" hose clamp for the lower hose. If your car isby SRG - Main Forum
My 2001 base Boxster (70k miles) developed a noise over the weekend. There is a chirping nosie that seems to get worse as the motor warms. Eventually the chirping becomes a constant screech. It's worst at idle and will stop if the engine is reved or if put under load. I removed both engine covers and the noise seems to be comming from the air conditioners compressor pulley/clutch. That car is beautiful. Keep it, change the bearing, and take your wife on a trip somewhere you've always wanted to go with the extra bucks.by SRG - Main Forum
I think the black w/ flat black graphics is a factory "design edtion" car. There was a similar Cayman at our last autocross.by SRG - Main Forum
Maybe not the problem in your case - but after a clutch job I had done I suddenly had no forward gears (or reverse for that matter). Engine ran fine, clutch pedal felt normal, but shifter wouldn't engage any gear. The problem was that one of the shift cables had not been properly reinstalled and had come loose (at the tranny end).by SRG - Main Forum
Yes, Pedro has procedure posted here Not exactly easy, but doable. HOWEVER - if you're not getting the vibes and it's only a noise/rattle, I don't think changing the mount will help. I'd be looking for loose/cracked/broken heat shields, exhaust or underbody plastic panels.by SRG - Main Forum
Petee - That's exactly how my car felt - like you were driving over rumble strips. I likened it to driving over gravel. Whether your current mount is broken or not, I'll bet if you replace it w/ the 2008 Cayman S. mount (Part number: 987.375.023.03) your car will be beautifully smooth, mine is. BNSC - Same advice for you. Just do it. It's not that difficult or expensive. You can thank me laterby SRG - Main Forum
