Thanks. Car is in Carmel by the Sea, Ca. a place that loves trees. It is interesting to read in the local paper that a home owner took down a tree on his own property and was then fined $35,000 and has to replace the tree. For me trees belong in fireplaces.by MarknearChicago - Main Forum
I have done several searches here but whatever I am doing doesn't get me the info I seek. My 2000 Boxster S is about to lose it's garage space and soon it will be outside under a tall pine tree that sheds pine cones. So I am looking for a thick car cover that will offer some protection. I may add a moving blanket on top of the car before I cover it to give it more protection. Years ago I hadby MarknearChicago - Main Forum
Have used Intercity also. They were great. Another carrier is Reliable. Have not used them but 6-8 weeks ago I tried to ship my 911 to Monterey, CA but the Pebble Beach car week tied everything up and I could find no availability. When I used Intercity it took 3 weeks before they could schedule in my pickup. So plan accordingly. Mark no longer near Chicagoby MarknearChicago - Main Forum
I was only going to stay several days for the concours event but without a guaranteed time span I wasn't going to plan on it. Decided to do something else at that time.by MarknearChicago - Main Forum
You couldn't get a room for the full week either. Ha! I signed up within the first 5 minutes and could not get a room. I canceled out of the whole Parade.by MarknearChicago - Main Forum
I had an unusual failure. At about 65,000 miles the pressure plate failed. When placed on a flat surface, springs down, it laid tilted. Never had that before and I figure I've driven nearly 500,000 miles in manual tranny cars. Never replaced a clutch except for when the pressure plate went. The car is a 2000 S now living in Cali.by MarknearChicago - Main Forum
I found it interesting in that Porsche took advantage of the ability to include features that are not available under other manufacturing methods, like the internal oil cooling of the top of the piston.by MarknearChicago - Main Forum
I have my 2000 Boxster S in the driveway of a friend in California. The first time it sat 3 months before being started and it started right up. Now with covid-19 it has been there for 4 months and I'm not sure when I can get out there next. She doesn't drive stick. We will see what happens. I also have a Cadillac parked in Florida and that's been there 2 months now. Neither places can accomby MarknearChicago - Main Forum

I replaced the foam by cleaning all of it off and then replacing it with thin but somewhat firm packing foam. I held it in place by using spray adhesive. As I wrote no a hard job to do and really didn't take a long time.by MarknearChicago - Main Forum
Don't know why but today I decided to pull the Boxster out of cold storage and fire it up. I'm going to use it over the next week while a friend who does not drive a stick uses my Caddy. There is no snow, ice or most importantly salt on the streets. This is the first time I've driven the car since the clutch work. It was 23F outside and the tranny is shifting smoothly, easy to get into gear wby MarknearChicago - Main Forum

Here's how it ended. Tranny pulled and pressure plate springs must have gotten bent or went weak. When one placed the pressure plate spring side down on a table it did not sit level. Rather it tilted to one side. Had the pressure plate, clutch and fly wheel (bad) replaced. With the tranny out also had an IMS upgrade installed and replaced the rear main seal and air/oil separator. Brought it to my indy and I'm in for $6800 now. Clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. Not related but parts that might as well replace, tires, AOS, RMS, bearing.by MarknearChicago - Main Forum

Ok learned gents try this one on. The victim is a 2000 Boxster S with 66K miles, a six-speed manual and no abuse. Last week or so I was driving along and all of a sudden with the next shift the clutch felt unusually light. Also it just didn’t feel right. Shifting is sort of ok, but the engagement of the clutch is not the same as before. I did a little searching on the internet and the mosby MarknearChicago - Main Forum
Just an update - after the sensor was cleaned off the car started without an error (for a few months). But, several months later one time it would not start and I said the hell with it and replaced it. Working fine ever since.by MarknearChicago - Main Forum
I think the goo had a metallic component. The sensor is cylindrical with a flat circular surface on top. It is about 10mm across and I think the active area is about 2mm and in dead center. The blackish goo was a "ball" on only the center 2mm area only, the rest of the sensor was bright shiny and clean. However, I always use a contact cleaner on electrical connections, especially when I firstby MarknearChicago - Main Forum
I imagine just wear and tear and it's near the clutch (I believe). The glob was not much bigger than a round pin head. I myself would hate to pay to replace that sensor when a quick wipe with a towel and it's good to go again. It is a bit of a chore to get at the sensor. Markby MarknearChicago - Main Forum
My Boxster is a 2000S with 64K miles. Over the past month or two occasionally the car would not fire. I'd wait a few minutes and then it would fire up. When it did not fire it turned over just fine but I would get nothing in the way of mis-firing or sputtering. I hooked up my Durametric and had a fault in the crank position sensor (code P0336 I believe). I removed the sensor and found a globby MarknearChicago - Main Forum

that those of us with high-boost engines like the modified I5 engine in my 95.5 Audi S6 have extra fuel injected to help keep cylinder head temperatures in check. When my turbo-ed I5 engine went from220hp to 370hp gas mileage went down by 10% (when driven the same). Fun factor went up so I'm ok with that.by MarknearChicago - Main Forum
Thanks for the posting since I no longer buy R&T. In reading the article it says "The Porsche Boxster concept made its debut at the 1993 Detroit Auto Show. Designed by Harm Lagaay, the car was reminiscent of the 550 Spyder (from which the 718 RSK was developed) and reflected the evolutionary nature of Porsche's styling." HOWEVER, page 60 of R&T's December 1996 article on the Boxster sayby MarknearChicago - Main Forum

As I recall the reviewers liked the 996 but the faithful did not. The complaints were that the 996 looked too much like the Boxster. From the windshield forward, I believe, they were the same. At least they looked identical. The interiors looked alike. The standard materials used for the door panels and seats were not of the quality expected for a Porsche 911. Both of the plugs were new. I was replacing the ones that were in the engine - 60K maintenance. As to the 2 types of plugs. I ordered Beru's but was shipped NGK's. I returned the NGK's and was shipped the Beru's. I installed the Beru's and immediately had a low speed miss. I replaced the coils, removed the Beru's and put in the latest and greatest coils and new NGK's (did not want to wait aby MarknearChicago - Main Forum
I've done most of the maintenance on my vehicles for many years. However when recently I changed the plugs in my 2000 Box S I had 2 plugs where the ceramic insulation cracked. That results in a low speed miss that goes away after accelerating past 3K. Is spark plug quality going down? The 2 victims were NGK and Beru. Am I getting too strong? That I doubt. When I installed them I used a toby MarknearChicago - Main Forum
