If I were affected, I'd wander over to the 996 forum on rennlist as that is where the details will be posted. I'd normally be able to post a link since I follow there but I'll be out of the country for a few weeks and time is critical to getting your claim in. 45235 Towlern Place Sterling, VA Makes a nice morning trip. I never got any hassle from parking my lowly Boxster on their lot <grin>. I used to have a half dozen Boxsters I'd see parked in their driveways or open garages within a half mile of my relatively modest '70s-built home in Oakton. I'd seldom see anything in DC itself. Traffic too bad, parking by contact, etc. Even at theby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
do-it-yourself satisfaction ups the fun quotient. These aren't $40k cars any more. Reminds me of university pricing, it goes up to astronomic levels just because they can and people will pay.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
for the Cayman models most dealers are getting, it is a relative bargain and almost all the articles compare it to the 911 and it comes out very favorably even to its $20-$50k more expensive 911 sibling. OTOH, just think how much of that fun you can get for $67k less in a used 986. Maybe 85% of the fun for 15% of the cost?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
in the last 18 hours and still raining for the next few days. Just checked my rain gauge after my wife asked. It's spring. April showers bring May flowers. Which brought up an interesting question I have no answer for. Prompted by driving on the interstate last night for 50 miles or so with little to listen to but a Braves game. But NC legislature is talking 80. When you drive a car with an instantaneous fuel economy display, you suddenly realize just what every 10 MPH costs you even with a car optimized for low air resistance. I've caught myself doing 5-10 MPH less than the speed limit where there is no traffic and no hurry just to see the meter jump.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Porsche has every interest in restricting the size of the class and thus the recovery Porsche will have to pay out. The lawyer has every interest in making the lawsuit as simple as possible because he wants his cut of the settlement with as little expense and delay as possible. So, in some sense, their interests coincide. If the judge thinks the settlement is wildly unbalanced, in theory heby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

There are failures Porsche through its dealers have seen. Failures owners have solved after warranty expiration with wreck motors through DIY or independent mechanics. Failures people have prevented by pro-active replacement. Cars that got parted out as uneconomical to repair. Maybe some other category I haven't thought of. Porsche knows the first category and acknowledges them. But Porscheby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
is that the discovery phase and negotiations between the class-representing attorney have already taken place and the hearing this month is only to have the court bless the agreement already reached between the two parties. If that is right, you have learned all you will have by reading the proposed settlement language. The reason these get settled is to minimize the publicity about the companby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

The size of the battery for the Tiptronic is different from that for the manual transmission for some model years. The 986 (Model years 1997-2004) takes a BCI Group 48 (12.1X 6.9 X 7.6", the 987 (2005-) takes a BCI Group 94R ( 12.4 X 6.9 X 7.5 " both right hand positive terminal. I suspect that all that would be necessary was for a rep from Porsche (dealer) to have diagnosed the problem as IMS and documented it on the repair ticket. DIY diagnosis would certainly require more docs but recall that the record for claims could be years old by now so lack of retention of records will limit the number of claims. Lets see what process the lawyers will set up. Wait. But impby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
There is a posting in that thread that the proposed settlement has not been approved by the court yet (expected April sometime). So assuming the settlement is as proposed and the car had a IMS failure and it occurred within 10 years of the in-service date and within 130k miles on the car and you can prove that and you could prove it was the IMS that was the cause and it cost you some money andby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Eisen v. Porsche Cars North America, Inc. Case No. CV11-9405 CAS (FEMx) Text posted on forums.rennlist.com under Water Cooled, Boxster but also affects 911s Model years 2001-2005 This appears to have been filed before the court in November, 2011 but the text implies no agreement has been reached as critical details are omitted so I interpret this as a lawyer for Eisen publishing his draft oby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

A year ago I had to sell 2 cars. I priced them based on what I thought real people were getting for the cars. Both cars were sold by 4 hours after Craigslist posting and the only reason it took so long was I live in the boonies and people had to drive 60 miles to get to me from the big city where I listed the car. On my Prius you can see about a 5% effect. And how/when you turn on the heater/defroster matters. The Tesla has a multi page do's and don't list of how you should drive it. You can't just drive it, can't refuel to 100% in 15 minutes, can't find refuel about every 10 miles, etc like a hybrid, gas or diesel car. Mike, Can you tell us more about how this approach that you have used on your race car might apply to one of our cars? Will you sell any of the tougher parts to make for use in replicating your lubrication approach? Will you market a kit? Provide Instructions? Only install at your shop? Qualify installers? Provide warranty? Pricing? How soon? Can you tell us how complex it isby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

I will only say that when I wanted a battery and because price was only a secondary objective I bought an AGM (online) and the adapter plate.
