Maybe on reason mine was in good condition is that it is driven and equipped with 4 snow tires. Donuts and drifting in the snow is far too fun to miss. Grantby grant - Main Forum
..from my 2004 and they look identical. but the problem is that the fronts and rears, as i recall, are very similar. Why nto google the part number stamped on them? I cant read it Grantby grant - Main Forum
So, if i read between the lines and apply to the LN bearing, the splash lubrication may in fact be *better*....right? Grantby grant - Main Forum
But also see my longer answer wherever the board placed it.....its the old story - i need not outrun the bear, only you :-)by grant - Main Forum
I wont go the long route, except to say that i've had cops nearly beg me to go to court, where they knew i'd win. But apparently their quota also stands. Radar detectors are the only cheap insurance i know. Its not safety, its a money making game. Equip yourself to play. Grantby grant - Main Forum
If its me, define open bearing. Do you mean the LN IMS is not sealed and is exposed to all that motor oil? Well, ... yea. OK. But oil's pretty clean stuff overall. We expose our crankshafts, timing gear, camshafts, hydraulic lifters, etc etc to that oil and none of them seem to have failure problems. In fact, there motors seem to go 200k if the IMS can keep its balls in its races. I guess i'mby grant - Main Forum
..of course, it just might turn out to be the best advertising he could do. Despite the fact that i put one in, it was not an easy decision to go with an unproven part, and many 9obviously) are more skeptical than me, or you. Grantby grant - Main Forum
I wont even begin to address that one. Suffice it to say my motor oil formulation engineer friends will take you up on that debate! If you want, please say more, but do so in gory detail. At the moment i'm not buying the pure assertion. Unless its as simple as "super thin oil creates a thin and weak barrier". True enough, btu not revelatory. even if i wind up with another along the way. From what i see, these motors - in fact the whole cars - last a long, long time. Except that some unknown % go boom in a big way when the valves and the pistons get in a fistfight (funny, so do Audis, when the TB breaks - another religious argument among the faithful - for the record, i replace TB and water pumps regularly too - and they cost more thby grant - Main Forum
I drive my car year round. In fact i has snow tires on it at the moment. Its a commuter-plaything-grocery_getter-racecar (sorry i spelled that backwards on ya) I'd be happy to open it up for the forum, unless Charles wants it back. Something about a warranty. I need to send him an email, unless h's lurking here :-) Grantby grant - Main Forum

... since if it was clear that my money was well spent my motor would be scattered across Alton VA. As it turned out, I clearly had no need of a replacement. But among my friends with boxsters, i have two failures. What's that, 2/maybe 30? ( I don't count this entire community since i don't know the actuals). That's 7%. Ouch. OTOH the LN part is very well designed and made. Better materials, laby grant - Main Forum

Well, i got my car back today, along with the old IMS. AutoHaus in Chatham NJ installed the LN kit. Drumroll please..... It was perfect. See pics. no sign whatsoever of wear. Here's the data that might be reevant, or at least interesting: 2004 2.7M 37k miles ~20 track days ~25-30 autoX days Oil changed 1/yr or ~7k miles Always driven easy until oil is warm, then often driven with spirit, buby grant - Main Forum
Nothing else is "normal". Darty steering generally is generally an alignment issue. I would first guess Scrub radius, but you didnt change wheels or hubs. It could also be less caster or it could be toe. Remember that a car can track straight even if both wheels are set either in or out - total toe is zero but L&R toe is significant (pigeon footed). I wonder if the springs have failed to sby grant - Main Forum
My policy is ambiguous - it excepts "timed events" and "competition events". DE is neither. Others will give you one freebie. I've seen this twice. Others exclude everything track related. PCA sells track insurance by the event. I buy it. Stated value, about $200 for me all in. However, i thought the Driving Experience used their cars anyway? Grantby grant - Main Forum
2004 2.7 5-sp. I replaced my OEM mount @ about 35,000 miles, including about 15 track days and lots of Autocrosses. It had the beginning of tears around the voids. The big flaws that made me suspect the mount were a) something that felt like a wheel out of balance between 3-4k; and increasingly vague shifting under heavy load (e.g.: heel and toe etc tough on the track). Jm is right on with his final caveat - dont let it run dry. Problem is, it can happen. I strongly advise that you follow the directions and put the fluid in the motive. Clean up is easy - warm water, air dray, and if you are anal, run a little alcohol through it. or not. On other cars you may also find that the reservoir is absolutely TINY and you may run dry very, very easily. e.g.; Audi C5 S6by grant - Main Forum
... i'm having the best luck with a pair of thin-sole, high quality dress balmoral/blutcher lace-up oxfords. Wing-tip or box toes doesn't seem to affect it :-) I'm personally using an old set of J&Ms with a thin, rigid leather sole. Quite the stylish driving shoes. Grant ps: Addidas Stan smiths work well too, but the sole is not as rigidby grant - Main Forum
And for that i hope - we dont know yet - that my motor becomes highly reliable for 150k+ hard miles. I will hopefully have pics to show of my old bearing. I expect it will be in ok shape. But the failures are sufficiently random that i dont wish to play roulette. If you do the job with the clutch out, the hours go down to 2-3 maybe. Which is how i approached it. The head spinning depreciation makes the cars great deals, except that they might blow up. So fix the major failure point and enjoy a good deal on a heavily depreciated car. Grantby grant - Main Forum
I really look forward to seeing what condition my old one is in. 6 yrs. 38k miles. Lots of oil changes. about 17 DE days and 20 or so AutoXes. We shall see. In any event, i'll feel better. Grantby grant - Main Forum
