Last summer my car... 2000, 2.7, died in the left hand turn lane awaiting the light to change. It was running fine prior to dying and had been driven about 30 minutes or so. After waiting for almost 2 hours for a flatbed... it finally started after the driver was ready to put hooks on it. It then ran almost the exact same distance and died again as I started to pull away after telling the towby m2 - Main Forum
I have moved to an area that is very rural, Calaveras, CA... a lot of twisty 2 lane roads with very little shoulder, so verifying the fix is a little unnerving. On the positive side... roads made for appreciating a Boxster. Thanks again... I will provide an update in a few weeks.by m2 - Main Forum
Last summer my Boxster stalled at a traffic light after running for about 30 to 45 mins.. The engine would not restart until the engine had cooled for an extended period of time... in my case, after the flat bed arrived 2 hours later, lol. No error codes were ever recorded. Members of the board indicated the Crankshaft sensor was bad and needed replacement. Removal and replacement was not terrby m2 - Main Forum
Hello... back from Italy, time to tackle the Crank position sensor. Although I am not certain this is the problem... no error message to confirm. How difficult is replacement of the sensor? Appreciate the insight.by m2 - Main Forum
Thank you... I will look there first, as that makes a lot of sense given the way symptoms. Got to admit... this is a strange one. After a few hours it started again. Nothing worse than an intermittent failure.by m2 - Main Forum
2000 Boxster, 2.7... no history of problems. Engine running fine, pull to a stop light... engine dies. Turns over as if it's not getting gas, gauge registers 1/4 tank). While waiting put in a gallon of gas. Wait 2 hours for a flatbed... truck pulls up and starts to raise his bed... Boxster starts (I've tried it 7 or 8 times while waiting). I ask the drive to follow me home (relieved we won'tby m2 - Main Forum
I have recently moved to an area of California where smog test are not required bi-annually (only at sale)... making modifications a reality. The techno power kit accompanied with headers offers the potential of ~ 30 hp. On a 2.7 that is a very promising improvement (aside from the discussion of $ to HP expense). My questions are... What headers have people chosen and what is recommended froby m2 - Main Forum
I recently replaced both my battery and alternator. I purchased a rebuilt alternator at the local (Winchester Auto) parts store... it turned out to be a Bosch. The price was around $200 dollars and I installed it myself. The most difficult part is described as the removal, not the case for me. With a few solid taps as the Pelican parts directions instruct on the top bolt my alternator was easby m2 - Main Forum
Original rotors... first bake job, no scratches or lip. Resurface or replace? And... would you take the same approach for all your cars? Mileage at around 75,000.by m2 - Main Forum
Does anyone know the torque value for the two alternator bolts? I have a manual on disc but it is PC based and I've gone Mac.by m2 - Main Forum
Was able to get it back into place right after I posted the question, LOL. Special thanks to Pedro for his insight and calming response when I asked his opinion of what damage I might have induced when I reversed polarity while installing a new battery. Blew 2 fuses, might have damaged the alternator but it might have also been what lead to the batteries demise (I'm guessing the alternator wasby m2 - Main Forum
Every article and post talks about removal, installation is encapsulated as... installation is simply the reverse of the removal process. My problem...what or is there a trick for aligning the top bolt? I can not get the alternator to slip into position. I am entering from the front engine panel. Thanks...by m2 - Main Forum
I was a manufacturing Quality Engineer, predictive and field reliability was part of the job. Blanket statement, take it for what it is worth in your opinion... with the best of circumstances accurate field data is a lofty expectation. Within our company we targeted top 50 customers and flagged failures for failure analysis... from that we were able to verify failures and work to root cause. Lby m2 - Main Forum
I appreciate the video... everything went fine. Unfortunately the airbag disconnected as I reached under to install the underside o-rings. Clipped it back in place. Horn now works when it should :^) Now who's replaced the rear trunk release cable?...by m2 - Main Forum

Great video... and timely. 2000 Boxster... same failure. I choose to disconnect the battery until I understood how to work safely with the air bag. After disconnecting the battery and waiting 2 hours (?)... is it safe to work around the air bag or is there any chance of activation? thanks. I'd rather work under my car than around an air bag and don't know if this a legitimate concern (nerby m2 - Main Forum
I also need to replace the rear trunk cable... do you have instructions? I'd appreciate being able to see them. thanks.by m2 - Main Forum
I understand the IMS uncertainty... and the new solution provides a non catastrophic option. But why not install the IMS Guardian? And, what are the statistics related to the success of the IMS Guardian in detecting a potential failure and the owner shutting down prior to significant damage?by m2 - Main Forum
Yesterday while road biking with my daughter a motorcycle passed close to me and gave the loud pipe open throttle rev. I immediately thought of this thread... and small dick, loud pipe mentality. Funny... as there is a guy who drives a big piped Viper that does the same thing whenever he gets a chance. It has only occurred next to me while going up climbs... so if the driver is trying to matchby m2 - Main Forum
Good information... thank you! So disconnect battery... wait 1 minute or more... simply unscrew the torque screws... disconnect and remove the air bag... apply liquid rubber and let dry... then replace the air bag and good to go? What form of liquid rubber? Something you simply brush on? thanks again.by m2 - Main Forum
I remember the intermittent horn problem being discussed years ago on PPBB… I have a 2000 Boxster and am now experiencing the problem. My understanding is the Airbag needs to be removed and the horn grommets replaced. DIY instructions indicate you should disconnect the battery then wait 15 minutes before removing the airbag, by accessing 2 torque screws on the back side of the steering wheel.by m2 - Main Forum
