... My Mom dug up this old photo of my Dad and brought it to me yesterday.
His car, No. 14 is a 1959 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster (Cabriolet).
The Silver one behind it is a 1957 Mercedes Benz 300 Gullwing.
This photo was taken during a race in March of 1959 at the San Isidro Airforce Base in the Dominican Republic.
I remember my Dad spinning out right in front of us as he was taking the hairpin curve.
He recovered and finished 2nd.

I was positive it (they) were Mercedes, just wasn't sure exactly which model.

I went to a "car show" benefit in Cahsiers, NC a couple of weeks ago. Mostly Jags - but there were TWO 300SL gullwings. Considering how few were produced, I thought that was pretty amazing. Both were local cars.

We just celebrated my Mom's 90th last Saturday. My wife & I are taking her to the Giants game on Sunday, (her b-day is 8/27) My sister put together a slide show / 8 mm movie conversion that was wonderful. My Dad passed in '92 so it was great to see him in action again. Pictures are a wonderful way to keep the memories fresh, way to go Perdro's Padre!

So this weekend I set up the photo.
Note that most of the colors are inverted:
BLACK Mercedes 300 --- WHITE Porsche 986
WHITE numbers ---------- BLACK numbers
WHITE shirt ---------------- BLACK shirt
BLACK trousers ---------- WHITE(ish) trousers
WHITE shoes ------------- BLACK shoes
The photo is now printed and framed and hangs in a place of honor with my trophies and auto memorabilia.
I wish we could have had the chance to drive together on a track.
